Chapter 111 Dinner at the Moretti Family
"Thank you, I can go in by myself."
Hearing the familiar, cold voice coming from outside the door, Klein ignored Melissa's strange smile and hurriedly straightened his double-breasted coat, checking his cuffs and bow tie.
Bang bang——
There was a gentle knock on the door, and Klein answered loudly, "Come in."
The waiter in the box opened the door and Angel Granger walked in slowly.
She was wearing a light white dress with no other eye-catching design except for some lace decorations on the neckline and shoulders. It matched her long light golden hair tied behind her head with a headband quite harmoniously.
Due to Angel's height, she only wore a pair of flat shoes, but her unusual height for a woman still made Klein feel inferior. He sighed, stood up, and greeted her with a gentleman's salute.
"Thank you for coming to the dinner. It's my honor."
Angel smiled back and bent down slightly as a greeting. She seemed a little reserved and her movements were a little stiff.
"Sorry, something happened at the company, so I'm a little late."
Klein noticed some sweat on her forehead, clearly having rushed here. He then lowered his gaze and saw that the maple leaf-shaped amulet he had given her earlier was hanging around her neck. It gleamed brightly outside her dress, its silver surface reflecting the light from the hanging lamp.
His somewhat depressed mood suddenly improved.
"This is my colleague at Blackthorn Security, Angel Granger. She has helped me a lot at work. It's no exaggeration to say that she has saved me several times."
He knew that his brother and sister would not understand it as truly "saving lives several times."
Mr. Azik, who was sitting at the inner side of the round table, had a flickering look in his eyes, and his gaze had never left Angel since just now. Did he discover something?
Klein pondered secretly, but he did not stop his actions as he introduced the other people to Angel one by one.

After everyone arrived, the waiter notified the kitchen and the food that had been ordered in advance was quickly brought to the table.
This time, the food was themed around Intis style, but it also incorporated local Loen characteristics, eliminating the traditional but cumbersome serving procedures. Roasted foie gras, coq au vin, pan-fried cod, and creamy soup were served to the table one by one, divided by the waiter and delivered to each person.
Mr. Azik was the first to pick up his glass of red wine, standing up and saying, "Let's raise our glasses and congratulate Mr. Klein Moretti and his family on their move into their new home. This will be an important step in his life, and hopefully just the beginning."
"Though there are more Moretti here than all the other guests combined."
He joked.
Several people raised their glasses and clinked them together in the middle of the dining table. Except for Melissa, who was not yet an adult and only received a glass of sweet iced tea, the rest of the glasses were filled with dark red wine, which sparkled with charming colors under the lights.
After drinking the somewhat sour red wine, Klein returned to his seat and looked at the feast in front of him, his appetite whetted.
But he still controlled his appetite, maintained an elegant posture, and slowly put the fragrant foie gras and golden-fried cod into his stomach.
"Klein, is Miss Granger in the same company as you? Does she also do the same work as you?"
Azik asked, he put down his knife and fork after eating only a small amount of stewed chicken, and looked at the two of them with curious eyes.
My work? The work of finding, collecting, and protecting antiquities?
Klein didn't react for a moment. Just as he was about to answer, he remembered that Azik knew about his Beyonder identity, and his question might have another meaning.
He glanced at Melissa and Benson, who were sitting next to Azik, and saw that they also stopped using their knives and forks and looked over curiously.
"Um... yes, we joined the security company at almost the same time. The company cooperates with the police. Miss Granger will do some, um, on-site work, and I will mainly be responsible for finding clues and completing some logistical tasks."
He could only explain vaguely.
Azik seemed to understand. He nodded, with a hint of surprise in his brown eyes.
"Klein, this is your fault. Gentlemen should shoulder more of the difficult work. How can you sit in the office while a lady runs around outside?"
Benson said this seriously, and Melissa nodded in agreement.
I want to help, but there are some things I just can't help with...
Klein opened his mouth but didn't know how to refute. He recalled that during the operation to track down the cursed altar a few days ago, he was stabbed in the chest by the "witch" Triss who had hidden next to him. He lay helplessly on the ground waiting to die. He couldn't help but look at Angel beside him.
"Professionals should do their own thing. Klein is a top student in the history department at Hoy University. He's quite experienced in finding antiquities. I can't be of much help in that regard."
Angel wiped his mouth elegantly with his napkin and explained for Klein with a smile.
"His work ability has also been recognized by all members of the company. He was promoted to a full member this week, and his weekly salary has doubled."
Wait, I haven't told them yet...
Klein was initially a little embarrassed by Angel's unfounded flattery, but suddenly remembered that he hadn't yet told his family about doubling his weekly salary, and it was too late to stop them.
Sure enough, Melissa immediately cast a suspicious look at him.
But she knew it was not a good time to ask about these things, so her gaze lingered for a moment before returning to Angel.
"My brother has been very studious since he was young. After graduating from Khoyi University, he was originally planning to apply for a lecturer position in the History Department at Tingen University. Of course, this job is also suitable for him now."
"I can prove this. His advisor, Mr. Cohen, is a senior associate professor in the History Department at Khoyi University. He was very satisfied with his grades and gave him letters of recommendation from Tingen University and Backlund University after he graduated."
Azik also said this with a smile, then picked up the wine glass and took a sip.
“I have already felt his knowledge and work attitude at work.”
Angel said in agreement, a hint of a smile still visible at the corners of his pursed lips.
What's wrong with you guys? Forget Benson and Melissa, why is Mr. Azik praising me too? Doesn't every graduate get a letter of recommendation?
Klein felt his face getting hot. He lowered his head, scooped up a spoonful of stewed potatoes with a spoon, and put it into his mouth.
As plates were constantly being brought up and taken away, the dinner came to an end. The waiters brought out portions of ice cream topped with strawberry jam, and the conversation at the table gradually became lively.
Mr. Azik introduced his summer vacation travel plan. He planned to go on vacation to the northern part of the Feysac Empire. The Antares Mountains there were covered with snow all year round, making it a great place to escape the heat in the summer.
He thought skiing and seal fishing were the holiday options suitable for him, rather than the Ducie Bay that other lecturers usually chose, because his already bronze skin would be tanned even darker on the beach in summer.
Benson and Melissa took turns telling jokes about Klein's embarrassing moments as a teenager, but they were able to unanimously explain these incidents as some of his positive qualities, such as bravery and trustworthiness, which almost made Klein doubt his memory and think that they were talking about a "kid next door" with the same name.
Angel ate very little tonight, and didn't even touch the ice cream in front of her. She listened to the "embarrassing jokes" with a smile, and occasionally responded with a few words, appearing restrained and polite.
"Angel, the after-dinner ice cream here is a specialty. Would you like to try some?"
While Benson and Azik were discussing their company's internal evaluation of the "Corn Act," Klein leaned over and asked quietly.
"Sorry, I don't really like sweets, so some hot soup will be fine."
She rejected Klein's kindness with an apologetic look.
Um, I remember you ate up all the blueberry ice cream at the Night Watchers' dinner last week, so I specially ordered an after-dinner ice cream this time...
Klein was somewhat confused and began to doubt his memory again.
"Uh-huh, Miss Granger, my cream of mushroom soup is still hot and untouched."
Melissa came over with her soup and placed it in front of Angel. She glanced at Klein with dissatisfaction and then took the strawberry ice cream away.
"I'll take this one."
"Thanks……"
Angel quietly thanked Melissa, leaving Klein, who was left aside, feeling confused.
