Chapter 112 Azik's Doubts

Chapter 112 Azik's Doubts

"Excuse me, I need to go to the bathroom."

After everyone finished their desserts and the conversation was drawing to a close, Klein, who was standing next to Angel, held the hem of his dress, stood up, said hello to the waiter beside him, opened the door and left the box.

He left in the direction of the restaurant front desk. Was he using the excuse of going to the bathroom to actually pay the bill?

Angel speculated as he watched Klein quickly leave.

She looked away, picked up the spoon, scooped up the last bit of cream of mushroom soup in front of her, and put it into her mouth.

The warmth of the hot soup flowed down from the throat into the stomach, slightly relieving the cramps in the lower abdomen.

Counting the decades of her previous life, even adding Cole Granger's twenty-plus years of memory, she had never imagined that one day she would have her period, or even have dysmenorrhea!

Fortunately, Cole had some experience in taking care of his sister Lily Granger in his memory. In his previous life, he lived in the Internet age and was exposed to relevant knowledge. After guessing and doing things in a hurry, he finally got through the two days safely.

But for a delicious food like ice cream, she can only refuse with tears.

This is not because she has any taboos, but rather a summary of her experience over the past few days.

Looking at the strawberry jam ice cream in front of Melissa across the table, Angel could only swallow the mushroom-flavored saliva in his mouth and force himself to look away.

As if sensing the resentful gaze, Melissa also looked over, then smiled slyly and pulled Benson beside her.

"We'll, um, go to the bathroom too. Miss Granger, Mr. Eggers, you should rest for a while and have some after-dinner tea. My brother will be back soon."

After saying that, she pulled Benson, who looked puzzled, out of the box.

The waiter in the box had also been called away by Klein, so now only Angel and Azik were left. The latter also felt the emptiness of the room. His eyes, which had originally been focused on the red wine in front of him, looked around and finally fell on Angel.

Before today, Angel had only heard Klein mention this history professor at Hoy University once. Because he was described as having a bronze complexion, a common sight in the southern continent, and because the name sounded familiar, she remembered it.

When the other person raised his head and their eyes met, she discovered that there was a black mole under Azik's right ear that could only be seen if you looked closely.

Just as she was thinking about what topic to choose to break the awkwardness in the room, Azik spoke first with hesitation on his face.

"Miss Granger, you're probably like Klein, right? You also... um, have some kind of extraordinary ability?"

Like Klein, extraordinary abilities?

Angel felt a chill run down his spine.

He saw that I was a Beyonder. Could it be that he was also...

The university lecturer with a bronze complexion and soft features didn't seem to notice Angel's surprise, and didn't wait for his reply, but continued to speak:

"When Klein met me at Hoy University last week, I could tell that he and I, like you, were no longer 'normal people.'"

"There shouldn't be many people like this, but they're not rare either. When I heard him introduce you and him as working together, I guessed that you both belonged to some official organization, perhaps a police department, like the few police officers I met before..."

Angel felt relieved after hearing the other party's explanation in a calm tone.

She was careful, choosing her words carefully, and took over the conversation in a way that did not reveal any extra information.

"That's right. Klein and I both chose to join this industry after having come into contact with some extraordinary events."

"He told me that incident led to the deaths of two of my students..." Azik sighed, a hint of sadness in his brown eyes. "But fortunately, you've already entered this circle. As long as you proceed cautiously and carefully, you shouldn't have to worry too much."

"But I'm different. I've gotten used to my current life. I teach young students, have long and fulfilling summer and winter vacations, and can make friends with whom I have common topics."

"I no longer have the courage, nor do I want to venture into the unknown or into danger."

There was a sense of maturity in his tone that was not in line with his age.

But then, Azik changed the subject.

"Sorry, there seem to be too many lyrical parts. My students always complain that I like to talk about things outside of class during lectures."

His brown eyes fixed on Angel, causing the latter to sit up straighter and his expression to become serious.

"In you, I see the incongruity of fate."

An...incongruity of fate?

Angel couldn't laugh at all when hearing the funny words that sounded like those of a street charlatan soliciting customers.

The other party can tell at a glance that he is a Beyonder. Either his own Sequence is not low, or he possesses some special ability to perceive extraordinary power.

No matter which type of person Mr. Azik belongs to, I cannot take his words as a joke.

"What kind of disharmony is this, and how should I deal with it?"

She leaned forward slightly and asked devoutly.

"I can only see some irrationality, but what kind... have you recently encountered anything that seems like a 'coincidence'? Or a feeling that something is interfering or guiding you?"

A recent coincidence, or a feeling of being guided?

For example, if he happened to run into the traitor of "Mechanical Heart", Tomac, who was about to kill the craftsman Kavi in the port of Enmat?

For example, encountering the wanted "assassin" again while tracking down Antigonus's notes?

Or maybe Lady Sharon happened to take the initiative and attack Zouteland Street when the Night Watchmen went to arrest her?

Thinking about it this way, Angel suddenly discovered that there were many similar things happening to him, things that seemed like "coincidences".

She nodded.

"That's right. If it only happens once or twice, it's still within the normal range. But if the coincidence occurs too frequently, you should consider whether there are other factors leading to it."

"The same is true for Klein. In fact, I was the first to notice the incongruity of his fate. I reminded him then, and I remind you now as well. The 'coincidences' you've experienced may have originated from the same force."

"I can't see the deeper reasons, but I believe your destinies are connected. I hope you can work together to find the truth and not let me lose another promising student or cause him heartbreak."

After finishing his words in one breath, Azik picked up the wine glass again, drank the remaining half glass of red wine, and exhaled a breath of alcohol.

Angel couldn't help but smile as he looked at this university lecturer who sometimes exuded the weight of history and sometimes acted as lively as a child.

"Thank you for your teachings, Professor Eggers."

Azik was stunned, put down his glass and shook his head.

"No, I'm just a lecturer. Klein's true mentor, Quentin Cohen, is the professor. Hmm... I'm a senior associate professor for now. It might take a few years before I can become a full professor. After all, seniority is everything these days."

He corrected, half-jokingly, with a wink.

Quentin Cohen... Azik Eggers...

These two names flashed through Angel's mind, and he suddenly remembered where he had seen their names before.

Cole Granger failed in his promotion and died. On the night that he "traveled through time", Mrs. Sharon gave him a badge that was said to have a bounty of 200 pounds. The badge had both of their names engraved on it.

The badge that brought him into the "Tarot Club" quickly aged and disappeared like the wind!

Could this also be what Azik meant by "coincidence"?
