Chapter 17 Attack

Chapter 17 Attack

"Something is wrong. The spirits nearby are filled with anxiety..."

Daly said with a frown.

"There are powerful Beyonders nearby, and they are hostile to us!"

She stood up from the sofa, no longer looking decadent as before. Instead, she looked around solemnly, then grasped the crystal pendant on her wrist and opened her lips to communicate silently with some existence.

This is the real "psychic", she is communicating with invisible spirits!

Leonard also reacted and jumped up from the sofa. He walked to the window and looked out. There was nothing unusual on the bustling Zouteland Street in the North District.

"Could it be another official Beyonder team, such as the 'Manufactured Punishers' or..." Angel proposed a possibility.

"Unlikely. We all have clearly defined spheres of influence and usually don't casually wander near other teams' bases. Furthermore, Ms. Daly's reaction... this Beyonder..."

"Better than me," Daly replied briefly.

Leonard's face suddenly changed. He hurriedly took out the revolver from the holster under his arm and cocked the hammer.

"Then it's most likely Sequence 6. Tingen City doesn't have such an official Beyonder."

Stronger than Ms. Daly, so she's likely a Sequence 6... So Daly Simone is also a Sequence 7 Beyonder? Angel looked at Daly, who was silently communicating with an unknown entity. She hadn't expected this plain-looking, rather decadent young woman to be a Beyonder on the same level as Nighthawk Captain Dunn Smith.

Wait, Sequence 6...

"Mrs. Sharon!"

Angel blurted out, and she saw a hint of fear in Leonard's green eyes that suddenly widened after a moment of confusion.

"Let's go to 'Chanis Gate'. We have no chance of winning here." Leonard made a quick decision, walked away from the window with his pistol raised, and headed towards the partition of the reception room.

Although I don't know where this "Chanis Gate" is, it's always a good idea to follow it...

Angel also stood up from the sofa. She first reached out to open the bullet box on the table, took out all the "Storm Gathering" bullets from it, put the bullets installed in the loader into the pocket of her dress, then picked up the two revolvers and followed Leonard.

Daly stopped channeling, she still frowned and looked around.

As Angel walked past Daly, he handed her the smaller lady's revolver loaded with "Phantom Phosphorus Eruption" bullets and said, "Ms. Daly, you know how to use a pistol, right?"

Daly, who had just finished communicating with the psychic, looked at Angel in surprise with deep eyes, chuckled, and said:

"Although I don't look like one, I am a genuine 'Nighthawk'."

She reached out to take the pistol.

Angel's hand on the gun tightened and he froze in place, as if teasing Daly, stopping the gun in front of her.

Unfortunately, Daly couldn't blame Angel now. She seemed to be entangled by invisible silk threads. The black robe on her body was tightly attached to her body, outlining her beautiful figure. The outstretched hand seemed to be frozen in mid-air, posing as if waiting for a handshake.

Angel knew she was wearing the same clothes as Daly, as her limbs were stiff and her neck was fixed, making her unable to move. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Leonard, who had reached the reception room partition and was about to go around it, his windbreaker clinging to his slender body, his arms and legs stretched forward, frozen in place like a comical puppet.

This was undoubtedly Madam Sharon's masterpiece. A Sequence 6, she used her invisibility to brazenly enter the Blackthorn Security Company. Standing beside several people, she unleashed her Beyonder ability, controlling everyone present like a puppet. Although Daly received a hint from her psychic abilities, it was already too late.

Angel could feel the threads tightly wrapped around her body, her major joints locked shut, unable to move at all. This feeling was rapidly spreading to her fingers and neck. Perhaps in just a few seconds, her eyes would be the only part of her body able to move. Lady Sharon was also waiting for this opportunity. She only needed to remain hidden nearby, waiting for the others to fully fall under her control before reappearing to complete her final slaughter.

Daly and Leonard might be trying to find a way to break free from this restraint, but Angel couldn't wait any longer. She had to use these precious seconds to create a possibility for others to fight back. First of all, she had to make Mrs. Sharon, who was hiding nearby, show her true identity.

She moved her left index finger with great effort, gradually tightening the joint and pressing the trigger of the woman's pistol - the muzzle was facing Daly Simone who was about to take the gun.

"Sorry..." Angel's lips moved and he uttered a word.

The trigger was pulled, the hammer sounded, and the "phantom phosphorus eruption" pushed out of the barrel by the gunpowder gas was ignited in an instant by the power buried in the inscription, dragging a continuously spreading phosphorescence to hit Daly's chest.

Angel was certainly not an undercover agent sent by Madam Sharon, lurking only to personally shoot Daly. As an auxiliary bullet, the "Phantom Phosphorus Eruption" had no direct lethality. Upon impact, the bullet would explode, transforming into a non-substantial "Phantom Phosphorus Dust" that covered a ten-meter radius, marking any spiritually sensitive objects and creatures—including the invisible.

The bullet itself was so lethal that if it hit exposed skin, it might cause mild burns, but it would do almost no harm through clothes. Not only that, the invisible silk threads that bound Daly seemed to be very afraid of high temperatures. Angel saw some transparent silk threads like spider silk appearing where Daly's chest was hit, and they were rapidly dissipating under the effect of the "Phantom Phosphorus Eruption".

At the same time, with the impact location as the center, the entire reception room was instantly covered with glittering phantom phosphorescent powder, ignoring gravity and the breeze blowing outside the window, floating quietly in every space.

Angel saw Daly in front of him and Leonard a little further away, both emitting a faint phosphorescent glow, as if a human body were enshrined in a white halo under clairvoyance. And less than two meters away from Leonard, a similar human-shaped halo appeared in the void.

Leonard didn't need Angel's reminder. His eyes were fixed on the halo beside him. The only part of his body that could move was his face. Without the slightest hesitation, he opened his mouth and spoke in a deep, magnetic voice:

"Goodbye, free and unrestrained sea.

This is the last time you appear before my eyes, rolling with azure waves and shining with your beautiful face..."

The ethereal and quiet singing was like a lullaby, echoing under the high ceiling of the reception room. The breeze blowing in from the window seemed to disappear, and the phantom phosphorescent powder in the room was moving away from Angel.

She felt like she was at the lake in the forest, or lying on a velvet bed. The calm and peaceful atmosphere made her feel dazed and ready to fall asleep at any moment.

"Can't sleep!"

Suddenly remembering that he was still fighting, Angel forced himself to recall his thoughts that were about to fly out of his body. In order to stay awake, he even bit his tongue.

A sharp pain came, dispelling the strong sleepiness. The lake in front of her eyes and the velvet under her body disappeared, and she returned to the reception room of the Blackthorn Security Company where phantom phosphorescent powder was falling.

This should be similar to the ability of "Nightmare" to pull people into dreams, but it is weaker than Dunn's direct dream entry...

Angel refocused his gaze on Leonard, who was still chanting in a low voice. The halo he was facing—Mrs. Sharon should have fallen into the same state, and because she was closer to the "poet" Leonard, the effect was more pronounced.

Then, she should... She tried to move her limbs, but unfortunately, the invisible threads were still pulling her body. However, compared to the state of being unable to move just now, the threads that were no longer under Mrs. Sharon's control had obviously loosened, and Angel felt that she could move her limbs slightly.

She looked at Ms. Daly in front of her. The latter also felt the increased range of motion of her limbs. She immediately used the crystal pendant on her wrist to quickly enter a psychic state. Her emerald eyes became deep again.

"Use fire."

Angel reminded.

As an "assassin", she has no way to deal with the invisible threads wrapped around her body. She can only put her hope on the "psychic" Daly and the invisible "spirits" around her.

Daly nodded almost invisibly, and then wisps of pale blue fireflies floated in the space around the two of them, dispersing the nearby phantom phosphorescent powder. This was the light emitted when the silk threads that bound them were ignited.

These invisible threads only curl up and disappear quickly when exposed to high temperatures, just like spider silk encountering fire. Blue fireflies spread rapidly along the threads in the surrounding space, creating a dreamlike scene.

But Angel had no intention of appreciating it. The moment the silk thread was ignited, she felt the force that bound her quickly dissipating. Without time to applaud Daly's performance, she raised her right hand holding the large-caliber revolver, and without waiting to aim, she relied on her gun sense to shoot a "Storm Gathering" shot at the halo representing Mrs. Sharon.

The bullet fired in a hurry did not hit Mrs. Sharon's vitals, but only hit the target's waist. However, what was heard was not the dull sound of the bullet penetrating flesh and blood, but a crisp "click". The halo marked by the phantom phosphor powder shattered like an illusion in the mirror and disappeared from Angel's eyes. Also shattered was the full-length mirror hanging behind the door for guests to use when adjusting their clothes.

Mirror double!

The mirror marked with phosphorescence was shattered all over the floor, and Mrs. Sharon, who was supposed to be here, had disappeared without a trace. Angel raised his gun and looked around, but did not find any new targets in the gradually dissipating phantom phosphorescent powder.

Did he escape...?

That’s right, if one attack fails, try again another day, which is the assassin’s life-saving trick. But since Madam Sharon boldly attacked the stronghold of the “Nighthawks”, would she really give up so easily?

Daly stood still, directing the blue flames towards Leonard, freeing him from the threads. Angel scanned the room, trying to locate Mrs. Sharon's hiding spot. The mark of the phantom phosphor powder couldn't be shaken off, even by teleportation. This was common sense she'd learned in another world, but here, the mark, unsuitable for the environment, was easily destroyed by the mirror double, rendering it a one-time effect.

The sense of danger in her heart gradually became stronger. Angel's "assassin's" instinct made her no longer hesitate. She pointed the muzzle of her left hand at the ground, pulled the trigger, and fired another "Phantom Phosphorus Eruption". The fragile bullet shattered on the floor, and the dreamy phantom phosphorus powder once again filled the entire room.

In the diffused light powder, a figure approached rapidly. Angel bent down slightly, ready to dodge, but was shocked to find that the other party's target was not him, but the "psychic" Daly who had his back to the figure!
