Chapter 229 The Mysterious Lady

Chapter 229 The Mysterious Lady

"This was the first flush toilet in the modern sense. The accompanying sewer system, along with the sanitation movement championed by Emperor Roselle, saved Trier, the capital of Intis, from being filled with...filth."

The female tour guide, surrounded by children of the nobility, was in high spirits and introduced the event aloud. She seemed to want to say something less polite, but eventually changed her words.

"This is simply the glory of human civilization..."

Audrey Hall, dressed in her finery, walked forward curiously, looking through the glass at the nearly two-hundred-year-old flush toilet, then asked the tour guide beside her:

"Can I touch it? Is it still working?"

Perhaps he encountered a problem that he would never encounter in an ordinary exhibition. The tour guide looked awkwardly at a middle-aged man behind the audience. The man was wearing a windbreaker, his hair was neatly combed back, and he wore a monocle. He looked more like a professor than a security guard.

Seeing the man nod in agreement, the tour guide instructed the security personnel to open the glass wall.

Audrey reached out her hand curiously and tried to press the pump button. Of course, the exhibits here were not connected to the water pipes. There was a "creaking" sound from inside the water tank, and then there was no movement.

Imagining the "gurgling" sound of water flowing in the flushing toilet, Angel turned his gaze away from the curious baby and looked elsewhere in the exhibition hall.

The avant-garde daily clothes that the emperor once wore, the velvet quilts he once covered himself with, and the gold-inlaid wine glasses he used, each one sparkled under the light focused by the lens, telling the story of the glorious and luxurious life of this time traveler.

Feeling someone looking at him, Angel withdrew his gaze and turned his head to find that the security guard wearing a monocle was looking at him with undisguised caution.

What did he see? Did he know I was a Beyonder, or did he think I didn't fit in with these nobles?

She subconsciously touched the Madness Ring, and after finding that she was not exposed, she looked at Audrey who was stroking the quilt used by Russell.

She's not usually this lively and innocent. Hmm... Actually, I've only seen her twice, but she wouldn't be like this at the Tarot Club. Is it because of her admiration for Emperor Roselle, or is she pretending for some other purpose?

Following the nobles, surrounded by security personnel and tour guides, she came to another exhibition hall. The theme here was "Tender Roselle". On display were some handicrafts made by the emperor, as well as items he designed and improved for his lovers, mistresses and children.

Angel saw several kinds of chess that existed on Earth, children's books in a colorful comic style, and even building blocks that imitated Lego, made of cork but had to be larger in size due to lack of precision.

Even though she already knew that this senior time traveler had plagiarized and imitated without any scruples, she still felt helpless about his audacity when she saw these familiar items.

"These are childhood toys designed by the emperor for his three children. However, due to the high cost of production, even now, two hundred years later, no craftsman has been able to popularize them."

After the lecturer finished speaking, he turned to the nobles and Angel and asked with a smile:

"Question, what are the names of Emperor Roselle's three children?"

"I know," Audrey raised her hand excitedly like a student, drawing good-natured laughter from several of her companions, including Gralinte. "From oldest to youngest, they are the eldest daughter, Bernadette; the eldest son, Charles; and the second son, Benoit."

"Exactly, Miss Hall. Please pick up a souvenir at the entrance later."

After this little episode, everyone came to the third exhibition hall, where precious original manuscripts were on display, including some laws promulgated during the reign of the emperor, government documents with other officials, and a notebook that had puzzled archaeologists and historians.

This is the diary that Mr. Fool asked everyone to find!

Angel confirmed this when he saw the Chinese writing on the two unfolded pages.

Moreover, this is an original manuscript that has not been copied. The text is neatly arranged in lines and the size is also consistent. The content of the two pages is probably more than the four or five pages circulating outside.

"It is said that these are mysterious symbols created by Russell, recording the most unknown secrets," Audrey murmured, looking at Angel beside her. "Miss Irene, do you think there is anyone in this world who can decipher these notes?"

After saying that, she moved over purposefully and, like before, urged the security guard with a sincere look to open the glass case and let him look through the diary.

This confirmed one thing for Angel: Audrey's behavior was different from her usual lively behavior. She was probably just trying to get her request granted at this moment. It seemed that her purpose of visiting the Emperor Memorial Exhibition was not simply to appreciate it and satisfy her curiosity.

The "audience" was truly amazing. Under her acting, even if the diary hadn't been specially treated and the paper hadn't been exposed to air for a long time, I'm afraid they would have agreed to Audrey's request to view it...

Angel watched Audrey's heartfelt performance, then glanced at the big golden retriever that had been following everyone. He suddenly remembered the question Miss Justice had asked at the Tarot Club: What should you do if a dog eats the "audience" potion and becomes an extraordinary dog?

Could it be that this dog...

"Woo woof?"

The dog also looked at Angel curiously.

The scream woke Audrey, who was immersed in her diary. She put the diary back with an apologetic look and asked the security guard to close the glass box again. The group started moving again and walked to the other end of the exhibition hall.

Angel hurried to the booth, looked at the diary that had been restored to its original state, and tried to write down the words on it.

Even if it's just a little bit, enough to fill a page or two...

After a while, the memory of the ideograms made her feel dizzy, and she quickly gave up the idea. Unless she was in a quiet place and meditated, the efficiency would be too low.

Sighing, she looked up and was surprised to find that everyone else had left the exhibition hall and headed in another direction. The entire hall was empty, with only the lights illuminating the exhibits and the slightly dark corridor left.

Angel chose a direction based on her memory of the crowd's voices. After walking a few steps, she realized something was wrong. The entire museum was too quiet, as if the nobles who were chattering just now, the staff who were nagging and explaining, and the man with glasses who looked at her from time to time were all playing a prank on her. She shut her mouth and hid in a corner.

Or maybe the "Master Key" had a negative effect, making me lost? But I didn't even take a few steps...

Looking back, I saw that the diary display stand was just a few meters away and I hadn't moved at all.

She felt a little uneasy, and felt that the secret holy emblem on her right wrist seemed to be emitting a cold touch, but it seemed to be suppressed by something and only stayed near her right hand.

Because she was wearing a skirt, she only tied the dagger and wand to her thighs under the skirt, and did not carry a gun. Although she resisted the urge to draw the dagger, she had already reached for the magic pocket watch in her pocket, and with the other hand she took out the "master key", ready to choose a wall and leave the exhibition hall first.

"Don't be afraid, we are still in the memorial hall. They just can't see you and you can't see them."

A soft but emotionless voice came from behind Angel. She turned around instantly, mobilized her spiritual power, and was about to summon black flames and frost to protect herself.

"Bang——"

The curse flame that had just appeared was extinguished instantly, and a woman of similar height to her appeared in front of her, raising a finger, as if using it to extinguish the black flames around her.

The lady had long chestnut hair that reached her waist, and her perfectly proportioned figure was hidden under a light brown knee-length skirt. However, she wore a pair of beige trousers that allowed her to move easily, and black boots that almost reached her knees.

This mix-and-match style almost made Angel dream of returning to Earth and seeing the models in those fashion magazines. She was so stunned for a second before she reacted and was about to press the "magic pocket watch" in her hand.

"If you press it, how are you going to face those horrible flames crying later?"

The chestnut-haired lady stopped her action with just one sentence, then took a few steps closer, looked at Angel's fingers and pockets, and finally her eyes fell on her right wrist.

"You were able to sense my arrangements in advance," she said, looking at the icy-sounding "Secret Holy Symbol" with a hint of a smile on her face. "Are you the Blessed of Night?"
