Chapter 290 Tarot Club and Aurora Club
"Mr. Hampres?"
Angel asked back in confusion, she wasn't pretending, she really didn't know this person.
"Well, he's a friend of Ms. Eslant. Do you know Eslant?"
"Yes, she invited Miss Audrey to a psychology seminar, and I went with her," Angel wasn't sure how to react after being completely unaware of the dream, so he could only answer in this emotionless manner. "After Audrey went to the reception room alone, I realized something was wrong, so I found an excuse to call her out and left."
"Something's wrong? Please explain in detail."
Soest lowered his raised leg, leaned forward, and asked.
"Well, I'm actually a 'fortune teller', a real 'fortune teller' with some special abilities..."
Angel had already learned from Audrey that his "identity" had been leaked, so he did not hide it. He just made a distressed look and told his secret hesitantly.
She attributed the problems she discovered through the Crimson Eye that day to the reminder of "divination" and her suspicion about the small number of participants in the seminar.
"As we were leaving the villa, a violent explosion occurred inside. Miss Audrey and I were separated in the explosion. I was very scared, so I left in a hurry."
Obviously, Soest also learned about Angel's identity from Ms. Daly, who had asked Audrey before, so he did not show any surprise, but continued to ask some details, such as Islant's performance when receiving Audrey, and whether there were other strangers present.
"Did you see the person in the portrait when you left the villa?"
Finally, Soster took out a sketch from his pocket and handed it to Angel. The latter took it and found that it was a female face with a round face, slightly curly hair, and eyes that were a little wide apart, looking serious and indifferent.
If she hadn't been facing the Night Watcher, she would have burst out laughing. This portrait was clearly drawn by the Night Watcher based on the description of the couple she had rescued that night. But aside from the same gender, the hairstyle, face shape, and facial features were very different from "Irene". She believed that even if she hadn't used additional disguise today, Soest would not have been able to recognize that the person before him was the one they were looking for.
"I'm sorry, I haven't seen him. The streets were in chaos after the explosion and everyone was running away. I didn't notice if there was this person."
She didn't give a definitive answer because that would have seemed too calculated.
"Okay, thank you for your cooperation."
Soest stood up from the sofa, put on his hat, bowed slightly, then strode out of the room, closing the door behind him.
Angel was not surprised by his departure, but watched the portrait in his hand suddenly disappear, and the bright afternoon sun returned outside the window.
She returned to reality from her dream.
Shaking her head in confusion, she stood up, covering her forehead with her hands, and looked around, as if she had just woken up from a strange dream, her eyes full of surprise.
————
"Audrey, I'm so glad to see you're okay."
Because he was not sure whether the Night Watchman was still observing him in the dark, Angel put on a "survivor's" expression and went to greet Audrey after seeing her. After a moment of surprise, the latter realized the other party's purpose, smiled, opened her arms, hugged Angel, and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
Afterwards, the two Tarot Club members looked at each other knowingly, entered the reception room together, and started the afternoon tea party.
The several nobles who were also invited by Audrey were basically people Angel knew, including Grellint who had become a "pharmacist", Cons who worked in MI9, and Christine who had expressed admiration for the Black Emperor.
After a brief greeting, everyone's conversation inevitably turned to today's topic, and they all turned their attention to Conse Learson, the noble who had joined the military's department responsible for dealing with Beyonders.
"What are you looking at me for? Even I can't leak top secret information casually."
Although he refused outright, he smiled, took a sip of coffee, and continued to speak in front of everyone's expectant gaze:
"But I heard some gossip yesterday. Last weekend, a divine messenger from the Aurora Society died in the sewers of Hillston District. His body was covered with tarot cards. Just like the previous two 'Tarot Judgments', there were two large cards at the top: 'Justice' and 'Judgment'."
"justice!"
Audrey sat up straight, her eyes wide and her emerald pupils filled with excitement.
"So, did the Black Emperor show up?"
Christine, who has a sweet face and brown-black curly hair, asked. She had shown an extraordinary interest in the thief at the last party, almost admiring him.
"He did appear, but according to eyewitnesses at the scene, the murderer was someone else, a woman, and her whereabouts are unknown, just like the 'Black Emperor'."
Conse replied in a low voice.
————
"So, the woman who killed the 'Shepherd' has not been found?"
In a secret room under St. Samuel's Church, several night watchmen were looking through the documents on the table and discussing recent events.
"The only witnesses were Mr. and Mrs. Allen. They lived on Burningham Road. I took notes at the scene and went to their house in the middle of the night to use my Nightmare ability to investigate, but I didn't find anything. Furthermore, Dr. Allen has been having bad luck lately. He even sought help at church and received soothing sleep several times. His dreams have become somewhat fragmented, so I didn't investigate further."
Said Leonard Mitchell, the black-haired, green-eyed man. He was wearing the same red gloves as the other Night Watchmen around him and was flipping through a stack of documents.
"Based on the remains, I'm guessing that the 'shepherd' is a woman. I suspect she's most likely 'Ms. D,' one of the Aurora Society's divine messengers, who escaped from Tingen City earlier."
The somewhat overweight "Red Gloves" Lares took over the conversation and looked at his captain, Soest, who had been injured in the operation to capture Ms. D.
The latter nodded and looked at a high-backed chair surrounded by bookshelves and files. A woman in a black robe sat there. The eye shadow and blush on her face made her highly recognizable.
"Daly, have you found the files on the two previous incidents involving the tarot cards?"
"They've all been borrowed by Lord Cecima, but I remember the details. What do you need to know?"
Unlike the other red gloves standing by the table, Daly sat in a high-back chair, leaning back, as if she was not interested in anything.
"I suspect all three incidents were committed by the same group of individuals. They targeted cultists or notorious individuals, quickly killing them and then departing, leaving behind tarot cards of unknown meaning. Most importantly, the 'Black Emperor' who appeared in the Capin case also appeared at this scene."
Soest threw the information in his hand onto the table. The top page was a photo of the remains of the "shepherd" who died in the sewer, and the "Justice" and "Judgment" cards on it were clearly visible.
"So you share the same view as the military, that there's a new, secretive organization whose mission is to eradicate evil, using tarot cards as its symbol, and that the murder of Ms. D from the Aurora Society was their doing?"
Daly glanced at the middle-aged man with her blue eyeshadow-painted eyes and suddenly smiled.
"Speaking of secret organizations, I do have a new lead. Lately, many people have been searching for an organization that worships the 'Fool.' You all know that the 'Fool' is the first and most important card in the Tarot deck."
Leonard, who was looking down at the documents, suddenly looked up, as if thinking about something, and then muttered:
"You mean, these two organizations are likely the same?"
"Yes, that 'The Fool' even has a name..." Daly rummaged through the table, pulled out a thin piece of paper, and read in Loenese, "The Fool who doesn't belong to this era, the mysterious ruler above the gray fog..."
————
"...The Yellow and Black King who controls good luck."
Inside a nondescript building in Queens, Mr. A's Beyonder gathering was underway. The attendees stared at the blackboard with three paragraphs written on it next to the hooded organizer, and fell into deep thought.
"Help me find some people who believe in this so-called 'Fool'. Of course, perhaps it's the 'Mysterious Lord' or the 'King of Yellow and Black'. If you have any clues, come to me immediately. The reward you will receive will be beyond your imagination."
Mr. A's hoarse voice echoed in the room.
Fors, who was sitting in the corner of the room, was almost stunned.
"Isn't this the honorific name of Mr. The Fool of the Tarot Club? Why is Mr. A of the Aurora Club so publicly searching for followers of The Fool? Is it because he knows that Ms. D died at the hands of the Tarot Club and is searching for the murderer?"
Thinking about what she had heard at the Tarot Club, she regretted coming to the gathering today. Although no one should know the connection between "Fors" and "Magician", she had a guilty conscience and everything seemed to be directed against her...
Just as she was pretending nothing had happened, Mr. A's low, hoarse voice rang out again.
"Also, if you provide clues about an organization symbolized by the 'Tarot card,' such as 'Justice,' or 'Judgment,' you can also receive a reward from me."
At this point, the "magician" Fors was completely stunned.
