Chapter 333 The Witch's Escape Plan
Smile, me?
Angel was stunned at first, then subconsciously frowned to avoid revealing his flaws.
Then she realized that Audrey must have heard Sherlock's voice at the last second when she used the communication potion to contact him last night, which made her a little suspicious.
"Just a communication with another friend."
She answered calmly, just like she answered Sherlock yesterday.
During these few seconds, she recalled some sad things in her heart, adjusted her facial expressions, and then asked:
"Now? Do you look a little sad?"
"Ah, what?"
Audrey's face was full of confusion at this moment. She glanced at Susie beside her, thinking she had heard it wrong.

The carriages soon arrived at Count Wolfe's estate, also in Queens. After going through complicated formalities, Angel, as an entourage, entered the ballroom with Audrey, her personal maid, and her golden retriever Susie. The others, including the Beyonder guards, stayed in the side hall to receive additional hospitality.
Count Wolfe's manor was obviously not built for socializing, but even so, the first-floor hall used as a ballroom was still more luxurious than any other salon or ballroom Angel had ever seen.
The crystal chandeliers overhead illuminate the hall like daylight. The orchestra plays soothing and melodious music on a marble platform. Men and women dance gracefully under the lights and music, or chat with each other over glasses of champagne.
Apart from the dinner party hosted by the prince last time, this is the most luxurious venue I have ever seen... Maybe the cost of hosting this ball is enough to buy the extraordinary characteristics of an "Apostle of Desire". Hmm, that might mean the life of a duke?
Angel looked around the hall, feeling a little emotional.
Audrey beside her had a different opinion.
"Due to the repeal of the Corn Laws, grain prices have fallen, and the income from the landed nobles' fields and pastures has declined severely. This year, the Earl has sold over 800,000 acres of land to cover his expenses on clothing, jewelry, and social banquets."
You mean to say that although Count Wolf looks glamorous, he is actually living beyond his means?
Angel looked at Audrey beside him with a puzzled look, curious about why she suddenly mentioned this, but saw that the girl's face instantly put on a charming smile, took two steps forward, lifted the hem of her skirt, and bowed gracefully to a noble lady who was walking towards her.
"Good evening, Countess. Is this necklace you're wearing today a new creation by Master Beruka? I just saw it in a magazine!"
"Finally someone sees it, Audrey. You truly are Backlund's most dazzling angel."
The countess, whose chest shone with the brilliance of an emerald, covered her mouth with her hand and laughed.
If the other person is average looking, compliment their clothes and jewelry. If their outfit doesn't match, compliment their manners. If you really can't find any positive points, say the banquet decoration is impressive...
Angel recalled the words from the quick guide to socializing in "Noble Etiquette" in his mind, and felt that he had a new understanding of the conversation between the two.
Fortunately, Audrey's greetings with the Countess ended quickly. She turned around and resumed her calm expression and relaxed demeanor, as if this was her true state, and the previous one was just a performance for the "audience."
"She is Count Wolfe's wife, and the necklace is worth more than 10,000 acres."
Audrey added quietly.
After the Countess, young men came over from time to time to invite Audrey to dance, but she politely declined them all. It was not until a middle-aged woman came over and whispered a few words to her that Audrey said to Angel with an apologetic look:
"Excuse me, Miss Irene. I'm going to the side hall for a moment. Could you help me take care of Susie?"
This was a secret code agreed upon by the two in advance, meaning that the "Psychological Alchemy Society" had come looking.
Angel nodded cautiously. She knew that Audrey had prayed to the Fool before leaving and had received some kind of protection. She wasn't worried about being discovered by the Psychological Alchemy Society. However, with Ms. D's "example," perhaps someone else would target this beautiful girl.
"I'll be waiting for you in the lobby. If you have any questions, just shout."
She whispered instructions and watched Audrey leave with the lady. She then took Susie to a corner of the hall where there were two long tables filled with food and wine for guests to help themselves.
There is even a dedicated area for guests' pets to eat and play.
Watching Audrey's personal maid Anne taking Susie into the "Pet Area", Angel couldn't help but feel a little emotional. The pets of rich people live better than those in the East District.
However, this is an extraordinary dog...
She comforted herself with this reason and turned her gaze to the dance floor in the center of the hall, but was surprised to find someone she knew there.
Laura Swan, the Witch of Joy, was hugging Vincent, the "Hunter" path Extraordinary who had accompanied her in their previous secret meeting, and was dancing fast to the cheerful music.
Why is she here too?
Angel subconsciously looked for another witch of pleasure, Sylvia, who was also her superior in the witch sect.
Unfortunately, this witch who also liked to join in the fun in upper-class social occasions did not show up. Angel had not seen her for nearly half a month. He could only see the butler who delivered the message when he went to Baron Langdon's house several times.
This made Angel think for a moment that the Witch Cult was carrying out some major operation, perhaps related to the "Lady of Despair" who was about to return to Backlund.
Since she was here to accompany Audrey to contact the "Psychological Alchemy Society", she did not approach Laura. Instead, she hid back, trying to avoid her sight as much as possible, and prayed that Audrey's "interview" would end as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, trouble always finds her.
"I didn't expect to see you here. Did Sylvia ask you to come here?"
A seductive female voice came from beside Angel, making her heart tighten.
It was Triss, the Witch of Pleasure who was arranged by the Witch Cult to be inside the royal family and was suspected of being manipulated by "0-08". She was also one of the people she least wanted to meet at this time.
Turning her head slowly, she saw Triss standing beside her, wearing a court dress that was not suitable for her age and looked a bit old-fashioned. She had a faint smile on her face, but her eyes were very cold.
Behind her was a gentleman with short, curly brown hair, who politely kept a distance enough for the two ladies to talk in peace, but his eyes remained on Triss, full of admiration.
Isn’t this the middle-aged man who accompanied her last time... In such a short time, this guy has cheated another one?
A strange thought popped up in Angel's mind, and then he responded in a low voice:
"I haven't seen Sylvia for half a month. This time I came here with a friend." She quickly glanced around the hall and then asked curiously, "Where is your prince? I thought you were always with him."
"Do I look like the kind of woman who can't live without a man?" Triss's face showed an expression that was unclear whether it was anger or helplessness. "But this is better. I hope you can remember our agreement. If you don't interfere, I can deal with the other monitors on my own."
"Agreement?"
Angel was a little confused. When did she reach an agreement with this witch?
Before she could figure it out, the man behind Triss came forward. Triss, who had been saying that she was "not that kind of woman" a second ago, immediately greeted him with a bright smile, which made Angel a little amused.
But then she thought of another possibility, and the smile gradually disappeared from her face.
Is this guy trying to use the ball as an opportunity to escape the clutches of Prince Edessak and the Witch Cult? Is that why he's mentioning this "promise"? Is he trying to get me to stop him?
Watching the man quietly leave through the side door and Triss returning to the center of the dance floor with a smile on her face, Angel suddenly understood everything.
But she really had no reason to stop it. Triss was obviously the top priority of the Witch Cult's series of actions, and perhaps also a symbol of the cooperation between the witches and the royal family. She originally wanted to find an opportunity to report to the official Beyonder to destroy the Witch Cult's conspiracy. Now this chess piece trying to jump out of the chessboard by herself was actually something Angel was happy to see.
So she just held a glass of champagne and watched coldly from a corner of the hall. She noticed that several guests were staring at Triss like her. Perhaps they were the "other watchers" that Triss mentioned.
A few minutes later, several sharp whistles were suddenly heard outside the window, followed by chaotic footsteps and shouts one after another.
The guests in the ballroom quickly became aware of the commotion outside, stopped what they were doing, and looked around in confusion. The people who were monitoring Triss were inevitably attracted by the movement outside the door, and a loophole appeared in their strict surveillance.
The next second, Triss disappeared from the crowd.
