Chapter 347 Pressure and Motivation

Chapter 347 Pressure and Motivation

"No, there are no new leads."

Forcefully swallowing the shortbread, Angel replied with forced composure.

"Well, keep watching them. Also, look for individuals with tarot card symbols, like 'The Judgment' and 'The Hanged Man'. They're most likely hiding in the East District. They like to scatter tarot cards after committing crimes. Do you remember 'Ms. D,' the Aurora Order's messenger? Just like when she died."

When Angel first heard the word "Tarot cards", she almost thought that the Witch of Pleasure already knew the relationship between Mr. Fool and the Tarot Club, but after Sylvia finished speaking, she realized that these were two completely different tasks.

The search for those who believe in "The Fool" should be a tip from the Aurora Society to the Witch Cult, and this time, the search for "Judgment" and "The Hanged Man" is because I scattered tarot cards at the death scenes of Heras and Barron...

It seems the military, Prince Edessak, the Witch Cult, and the Aurora Society are working together without any scruples. Even if a military member died in the East District, the Witch Cult would help find clues...

Angel speculated.

She wouldn't investigate herself anyway, and Sherman was already under Angel's jurisdiction, so there was no chance of him reporting the matter to a higher authority. Furthermore, he hadn't seen Angel scatter the tarot cards, so at best he only knew that he had participated in a minor operation of the Witch Cult...

She agreed casually and even tried to muddy the waters:

"Recently, the Aurora Society assassinated Duke Negan of the Kingdom, causing Mr. A's gathering place to be raided by official Beyonders and the military. A friend of Audrey revealed that MI9 has been searching for clues about the Tarot organization. Could this whole thing be related to Ms. D's death?"

Sylvia was confused by this nonsense and looked at Angel with wide eyes. It took her a while to recover. She shook her head with a strange expression and replied:

"You may not believe this, but the Aurora Society is truly innocent this time."

By the time Angel left Baron Langdon's mansion, it was already dark. The moonlight, scattered by Backlund's haze, cast a creepy crimson hue, casting an eerie atmosphere over the sparsely populated West District.

Sitting in the hired carriage, Angel looked back with some worry. The Severia family's sight kept shrinking, but the "Lady of Despair" weighing on her heart became bigger and bigger as December approached.

Although the "Secret Holy Symbol" provided by Ms. Arianna was unexpectedly effective, preventing her true identity from being discovered through divination and other mystical means during her months in Backlund, no one could guarantee that the concealment effect would work when facing a Sequence 4, a demigod.

As long as Lady Despair noticed anything amiss, with Sequence 6 facing Sequence 4, and both being witches of the same path, she wouldn't even have a chance to escape.

Where is Mr. Fool's angel protection?

Audrey's experience shows that the protection of angels can indeed effectively prevent the spying of official Beyonders, but that's all. If Mr. Fool can truly protect all Tarot Club members, then Audrey wouldn't need me to buy time to escape when she encounters Ms. D...

I'm afraid I can only rely on myself to pass this level of "Ms. Despair"... Angel sighed.

She has never been so determined to strengthen herself and advance to the next level.

According to her past experience, even if she couldn't advance to a higher sequence, as long as she digested the potions of this sequence, her mastery of various extraordinary abilities would be greatly improved. The strength of an extraordinary person who had just been promoted to a "Witch of Pleasure" was completely different from that of an extraordinary person who had completely digested "Pleasure".

Thinking of this, she couldn't help but stroke the "Crazy Ring" on her finger.

"Please turn left at the next intersection and go to Minsk Street in Cherwood."

After hesitating for a moment, Angel made up his mind and said to the coachman who hired the carriage.

————

Late at night, at the Night Watchmen's basement under St. Samuel's Church.

Several Night Watchmen were energetically searching through the piles of files in the archives, searching for anything related to "Demon Summoning." This was the time when the Sleepless Ones were most energetic, but there was one exception.

Daly Simone yawned as she passed files around to other Nighthawks, but the one in front of her hadn't been turned over in a long time.

"Bang--"

The door was pushed open, and two men in windbreakers walked into the data room one after the other. When they saw the leader, they stopped what they were doing and greeted him:

"team leader!"

Soster, the captain of the "Red Gloves" team, nodded in response, and then went straight to Daly who was sitting in the corner. Behind him was Leonard Mitchell, the new Red Glove who joined Soster's team.

"Daly, any new findings?"

Sitting in a chair across from Daly, Soster took off his gloves and stuffed them into his pockets, then removed his signature flamboyant hat and asked.

"Most of these cases are from decades ago. Some have been solved, while others remain unsolved, and the perpetrators are likely dead."

The Necromancer, with heavy eyeshadow on her face, pushed aside the documents in front of her and replied, then turned her gaze to Leonard standing beside her.

"Leonard, if I were you, I would have left this guy's team earlier. You've been back with him in Backlund for a month now. 'Tarot Cards', 'The Fool', and now there's the trace of summoning demons. You've taken on a lot of cases, but have you solved any of them?"

"Captain Soest has been diligently investigating the leads."

Leonard pursed his lips and replied, his expression calm, his true thoughts unrevealed.

"'Captain Soest'..."

Dai Li was a little touched, and the subsequent sarcastic words were stuck on her lips.

The other night watchmen didn't dare to breathe, their eyes fixed on the documents in their hands. For a moment, the only sound in the data room was the rustling of papers, until Soest smiled and said:

"You're right, Daly. I do have a lot of cases on hand, and none of them can be solved immediately. But I'm not here to continue looking for clues. Something new has happened. Maybe it has something to do with Tingen's team."

Daly's eyes instantly locked on his face.

"Three months ago, after the Tingen tragedy, Backlund's Nighthawks were tasked with protecting Angel Granger's cousin, Lily Granger. They helped the target relocate to a house closer to Saint Samuel's Church and used mystical methods to prevent common curses and divinations."

Soest's deep voice echoed in the archive room.

"Two months ago, Miss Granger began receiving threatening letters delivered directly to her home. The content consisted of general verbal threats. After investigation, we identified the suspect as her teacher, Kaliva Dupont of Backlund Technical College. Due to his lack of motive and erratic behavior, we didn't arrest him. Instead, we deployed additional Nightwatchmen to keep watch, hoping to identify the mastermind behind the incident.

"Until the day before yesterday, Kaliva suddenly disappeared after sending his final threatening letter. Even divination couldn't locate his whereabouts. Later, the Al Hassan team protecting Lily's family discovered Kaliva had reappeared nearby. They tracked him to his home, but encountered a female Beyonder. After a brief battle, she escaped."

"Escaped? Is the opponent very strong?"

Daly asked in confusion.

"She may be above Sequence 6. Al Hassan's attempt to pull her into the dream failed. However, when fellow teammate Lorota and Borgia surrounded her, she quickly broke away and didn't harm them, seemingly having reservations.

"Then came the strangest part. When Team Al Hassan rushed back to Lily's house, the technical college student had just returned home from school. But she found Lolota and another version of herself standing at her door. If Al hadn't used dreaming to confirm the truth of this incident, he would have almost thought the girl was talking nonsense."

"Are both of them fake? Do they have some method or magical item that can change their appearance?"

Leonard asked curiously. He was also called here by Sost halfway and had no idea about what had happened to Al Hassan's team.

"To be precise, this is a potion sequence, Sequence 6 of the Diviner, called 'Faceless Man.' As the name suggests, they can transform into various forms, with no fixed face." Soest replied with a smile. "This information hasn't been distributed to the teams in various locations, so it's normal that you don't know about it."

"A Beyonder who can change his appearance at will and disguise himself as someone else—this is extremely important information. Why is it only stored in Backlund?"

A night watchman nearby, who pretended to be looking up information but was actually listening attentively, asked.

"This information isn't highly classified, but it involves a thorny organization. You may have heard of one of its names: the 'Secret Order,'" the Red Gloves captain said mysteriously. "But its other name, or rather the full name of the organization that absorbed the 'Secret Order,' is the Eighth Bureau under the Intelligence and Homeland Security Committee of the Republic of Intis, or simply the 'Eighth Bureau.' Within the Kingdom of Loen, it can be said to be a complete spy agency."
