Chapter 426 Summoning the Messenger
The carpet, the walls and the sky outside the window returned to their normal colors. The two looked at each other for a long time without saying a word.
"I never expected that the power of Bansy Harbor would conceal so many mysteries, involving the war of the last era, the power of 'Disaster', and secrets that even Mr. Azik dared not touch..."
Angel said slowly, looking down at the two silver charms on the table, as if there was a "disaster" charm made with her blood sandwiched between them.
Suddenly, she felt a not very strong but very warm force on her shoulders.
Klein came to Angel's side at some point, hugged her, and held her in his arms.
The soft touch made her feel very comfortable. Instead of hugging him with her arms as usual, she lowered her head slightly and rubbed deep into Klein's arms.
The inner confusion was also alleviated by this intimate gesture.
"Don't worry, we've already left Bansy Harbor. The changes there have nothing to do with us anymore. Mr. Azik will also help us continue to search for the truth... I also have some methods that can avoid certain risks and explore this power. Remember Leonard's evaluation of us?"
Klein's whispered words reached Angel's ear, and the air current made her hair feel a little itchy.
"What's your evaluation? A fortune-teller?"
Forcing herself to cheer up, she cracked a corny joke.
This sentence successfully made the other person laugh, and she was also infected by the smile. The two of them stuck together, smiling foolishly, until bright colors such as red and yellow flashed beside them, and a not-so-tall figure returned to the living room again.
"By the way, I think it's time for you, especially Angel, to have your own messenger... Sorry, am I here at the wrong time?"
Azik's gentle voice came, and then suddenly stopped. Angel raised his head in confusion and looked at the bronze-skinned gentleman. The three of them looked at each other, and the room fell into an awkward silence.
————
Angel had seen two messengers before: Daly Simone, a floating spirit with only a mouth and a tongue that was a hand, and Azkna, a giant skeleton summoned by a copper whistle.
At this time, Azik was using his own skeleton giant as an example to explain how to summon and use the messenger. He blew the copper whistle, and the skeleton messenger that could penetrate the ceiling appeared in the living room. The latter was not as arrogant as usual, but lowered his body obediently, showing his upper body to several people.
For some reason, when it changed its posture, it quietly moved away from Klein and closer to Angel.
"To obtain your own messenger, you must first design an accurate summoning ritual and prepare the corresponding spiritual creature contract. These are all related to knowledge related to death and the spiritual world. Ignoring this will easily attract those with malicious intentions."
But the two messengers I met were quite friendly. Hmm, maybe the unfriendly ones had already killed the contractors and ran away, just like the unfortunate victims in the Trier Catacombs... After being frightened, Angel got rid of his previous decadent state and muttered to himself.
Azik didn't notice her thoughts and continued:
"There are two ways to obtain a messenger. Either you accurately describe the messenger and summon the corresponding spirit creature in a ritual, then sign a contract with it to have it serve you. Or you can directly enter the spirit world, find the messenger you need, and sign a contract with it directly. Of course, the prerequisite is to obtain its consent, otherwise it is very dangerous.
"Based on your situation, I recommend the first method. While it can easily summon strange or dangerous evil spirits depending on the description, much like the popular street wheel game in Intis, where each summoning is a lottery, I can provide a description that has been tested over time to minimize any danger. Of course, this summoning method doesn't necessarily result in the most satisfactory messenger; you can only choose those that are neither good nor bad."
"Is your messenger neither good nor bad, or is he very good?"
Klein couldn't help but ask. He looked curiously at the skeleton messenger with black flames burning in his eyes. The latter squirmed again and moved further away from him. He began to suspect that the skeleton messenger he summoned was the one who died in the battle with Mr. A and was resurrected in the underworld.
"They are quite special. They don't belong to the spirit world, but come from the underworld. Of course, if you're lucky, you can find similar ones."
It seems to be a very good one... Angel looked up at the messenger with some envy.
"So, who of you wants to give it a try?"
After explaining the relevant knowledge, Azik looked at the two "students" with some anticipation, like a teacher waiting for questions.
"You go ahead. I can use the copper whistle to summon Mr. Azik's messenger for now."
Klein whispered.
He wanted me to try it under Mr. Azik's protection... Angel felt a warmth in his heart and nodded.
After setting up the spiritual wall, Azik casually filled the space inside with the power of the realm of death. This belonged to the "related realm" he mentioned. If the extraordinary person from the realm of death was not present, they would have to look for related magical items or extraordinary materials before attempting to perform the ritual.
After setting up the altar and lighting the candle that symbolized himself, Angel watched the other two retreat to the wall. At Mr. Azik's wave, their figures were obscured by a thick mist. Then he chanted in ancient Hermetic language:
"I!
"I call upon my name:
"A spirit wandering in the void, a friendly creature that can be commanded..."
The first description is the necessary format for a ritual pointing to the spirit world. Similar phrases include "roaming in the upper realm"; the second sentence is a specific description of the messenger, which can be modified according to your needs. The sentence provided by Mr. Azik can avoid evil spirits that are "evil", "hate humans", and "unwilling to be driven".
And then the last sentence...
"...a courier who can travel quickly between places."
This sentence can also be changed as needed. Angel wants a courier who can specialize in delivering letters, so this sentence has precise descriptions such as "fast" and "courier".
call--
A chilly wind blew past, the temperature around dropped sharply, and the light of the sacrificial candles flickered and dimmed.
In her spiritual vision, a white-feathered bird with flapping wings fell from the sky. Before it hit the ground, it regained its balance, turned upward at an extremely fast speed, flew up quickly, and circled around her several times.
Success!
Angel was a little excited. She had already prepared herself for failure and even for summoning strange creatures. She didn't expect to find a spiritual creature that matched her description on the first try.
Birds can fly, don't attack people suddenly, and are the earliest and most reliable messengers, which seems pretty good.
But unfortunately, it's too small...
For some reason, the bird, which was only the size of Angel's thumb, stopped at the altar, tilted its head and looked at her, blinking its almost invisible green eyes.
Not only would it not be possible to deliver the letter safely, there was a chance that a gust of wind, well, a gust of wind from the spirit world, would blow it away along with the bird and the letter...
Sighing, Angel gave it an apologetic look and spoke like a boss who cruelly rejected a job applicant:
"I! I end this summoning in my own name!"
As this repatriation spell in the ancient Hermetic language was recited, the thumb bird fluttered and disappeared from the altar, the breeze around it stopped blowing, and the candlelight returned to a stable state.
Licking her dry lips, Angel looked towards Klein and Mr. Azik in the corner. Both of them gave her an encouraging smile.
After adjusting her mood, she started the ceremony again. This time, she tried to change the content of the last sentence to avoid the same problem.
The speed of light isn't enough...it has to be able to at least lift the letter and deliver it safely and accurately to the recipient...
After thinking for a moment, Angel recited:
"I!
"I call upon my name:
"A spirit wandering in the void, a friendly creature that can be commanded, a powerful and wise transcendent being."
Bang--
There was a sound as if the floor was being slammed. Angel opened his spiritual vision and looked towards the altar. A huge figure appeared, two and a half meters tall, with its head almost touching the ceiling, even blocking the light of the candles.
This was a giant with sturdy muscles, armed with sharp weapons, and a friendly face. He looked very much like Father Utravsky, whom she had met at the Harvest Church in Backlund. Perhaps he also had Feysac blood in his lifetime.
Looks like a good fighter, and very friendly...
Angel was a little excited. She tried to speak and communicated in ancient Hermes:
"Are you willing to sign a contract and become my messenger?"
The giant's eyes, as big as copper bells, looked at her. After a moment, he spoke in Feysac:
"Hello."
The speech was slow, but still audible.
Does this count as consent?
Angel was a little confused. She looked at the experienced Azik, who had been looking at the giant's spirit, as if using his psychic vision to observe his inner self, and did not answer for a while.
If all else fails, then I'll just choose him. At least he's better than that thumbbird... Angel looked at the giant again and was about to speak when the giant nodded slowly and said:
"I agree."
Very good, he agreed...wait, he was answering my previous question, after a full minute?
Angel's smile froze on her face as she finally discovered the giant's biggest problem - slowness.
His first "Hello" was a greeting, which happened one minute after being summoned, and his second "Agree" was also one minute after Angel asked. This is how fast he reacted...
When the situation was critical and information needed to be conveyed as quickly as possible, I couldn't even communicate with him verbally. It wasn't that he couldn't understand, but there was a delay of more than a minute in our conversation!
She forced a smile on her face and said:
"Thank you for your cooperation. I believe you deserve a better contractor."
Before the minute's delay had passed, Angel quickly lifted the summons and sent the giant back to the spirit world.
Wiping the nonexistent sweat from her forehead, she looked wearily at the two people in the corner, wondering if Klein should come up and make a fool of himself so she could have a good rest.
As if he had guessed her thoughts, Klein raised his right hand slightly, extended his index finger, and made a "1" gesture, signaling her to try again.
Well, let's try. If you don't succeed, it's your turn...
Angel thought with some self-deprecation, relit the candles, and recited the ritual spell again.
"A spirit wandering in the void, a friendly creature that can be commanded, a unique being capable and willing to serve as a messenger."
She was going to try this one last time with the broadest description possible; anything that could deliver a message would be fine, even if it was just a larger version of the thumbnail from the first time.
Whoosh——
A strong wind blew through the room, causing the candlelight to flicker and turn into an eerie black.
This time the noise was louder than the previous two times. Angel was a little excited. She pursed her lips and looked towards the candlelight, waiting for the arrival of the last spiritual creature.
But, nothing appeared.
Um?
She ended her clairvoyance, reopened it, looked forward again, then looked around, and then at the corner.
Klein also looked around in confusion, while Azik looked at her, or more precisely, at her feet.
Angel suddenly realized something and looked down. The air beneath her feet was rippling like water. A black cat, about half a meter long and much larger than an ordinary cat, appeared on the carpet, staring at her with its azure eyes.
