Chapter 624: Transaction and Mausoleum
Under the gaze of everyone, the "magician" finally expressed his idea: only rent, not sell.
"With Mr. Fool as witness, we don't have to worry about the reliability of the transaction. When you need this magical item, you can rent it on a daily basis. The base fee is 300 pounds, with an additional 50 pounds per day. You can use the abilities recorded on it at will, but when you return it, you must ensure that there are two more pages recording the abilities than when you borrowed it. This way, we can achieve a virtuous cycle."
As she announced the leasing plan, the eyes of "Hermit" and "Justice" who were already prepared to bid, as well as "Hanged Man" and "Moon" who were upset that they did not have enough financial resources, all lit up, feeling that this was a more suitable option than spending tens of thousands of pounds to buy it.
Of course, "Justice" also quickly calculated the price of the rental plan and found that "long-term rental" was not a difficult thing. It was even less than the usual maintenance costs of her own castle. If she was not worried about angering other members, she would even want to ask for a lease of one or two years.
Be restrained, Audrey. Money isn't a problem, but this kind of "monopoly" will cause dissatisfaction among others. My father taught me that monopoly isn't the best way to do business; win-win is... She persuaded herself and gave up on renting the item first. After all, she was staying in the safety of her family's territory and wouldn't return to Backlund until June.
The others were not as hesitant as she was. The Hanged Man and the Moon asked for short-term rental for a few days. The former was obviously rushing to explore the "nameless island" and wanted to increase his combat effectiveness, while the latter was frankly aware that the "hunting competition" within the vampire clan had reached a critical moment and he needed this item more.
Of course, during the time they were heading to the nameless island, this magical item would be used by the "world", so the "magician" only rented it to the "moon" for two days, and also emphasized that the used abilities must be replaced with ones of the same level, of course, with no limit on the type.
After completing this transaction, which would likely have far-reaching consequences for Tarot, Audrey "Justice" finally had the time to speak. She gathered her emotions and spoke calmly but excitedly:
"Everyone, I've successfully been promoted to 'Hypnotist' this week."
This was Sequence 6 of the "Audience," or "Dragon" path. Audrey, who had been an ordinary person when she first joined the Tarot Club, had advanced to a Sequence capable of serving as a bishop in the church in less than a year. This was truly something she could be proud of.
Of course, most of those present were elites from various organizations and tribes. Klein became a Beyonder at a similar time to Audrey and was now at Sequence 5. As for me… well, I have some experience with role-playing in advance, and I also got the "Witch" card, which cleared all obstacles for the potion formula, so I can't be counted… Angel pondered and expressed his congratulations to this energetic and vibrant girl. The other members did the same.
However, this should be a "transaction" rather than a "free discussion" session, so after Audrey laid the groundwork, she immediately continued:
"So, I want to find clues about the next sequence of potions of the 'Hypnotist'. Even if it's just the name, I will buy any useful clues at the price!"
She launched another money offensive.
Although she had joined the Psychological Alchemist Society, Audrey still adhered to the plan set for her by other Tarot Club members before joining. She was still a Sequence 8 Beyonder in the Alchemist Society and was planning to reveal her advancement to Sequence 7 upon returning to Backlund at the start of the social season. Therefore, obtaining a Sequence 5 potion from them would be a distant prospect, and she could only place her hopes on the Tarot Club.
She successively cast her eyes on the "Queen", "World" and "Hermit", members with strong strength, action ability or sufficient connections, but none of them gave her a response, which made her vaguely disappointed.
Across from her, Alger, the "Hanged Man," also felt the urge to share his advancement to Sequence 5 with everyone. However, he didn't let this emotion control him. Instead, he planned to reveal it after a few gatherings, so as not to expose his true identity within the Church of Storms or cause any trouble.
If he hadn't planned to explore the island with the Queen and the World, he wouldn't even want to reveal these two "allies".
Thinking of this, he looked at the "Queen", who happened to speak:
"Selling an Arbitrator Sequence 6 'Judge' and a magical item with the Chanter Sequence 7 'Sun Priest' attribute. Beyonder attributes for £3,000, magical item for £1,500."
Hearing these words that sounded like hawking at a market, not only the Hanged Man, but the other members also took a breath, surprised that the "Queen" had once again taken out so many items for sale.
This meant that she had eliminated another Sequence 6 Beyonder within a week and also picked up a magical item. However, considering that she was the only Demigod Beyonder in the Tarot Club, it seemed normal... Everyone looked at each other, and in the end, it was Derrick, the "Sun", who was also on the Chanter Path, who bought the pocket watch picked up from William Sykes.
Considering that he was in a sunless, God-forsaken land, and that he could never have too many magical items that could emit fire and release solar halos, and that he could even exchange them for materials of higher value, Angel allowed him to buy the pocket watch on credit.
"Ms. Queen, can the extraordinary properties of this 'Judge' last for a while? I might buy it in about a month."
The magician suddenly spoke.
Perhaps Fors wanted to purchase this trait for her friend, Hugh Dilcha, now an Arbitrator at Sequence 8, "Sheriff," but was still hesitant because of the Sequence 7, "Interrogator," in the middle?
Angel pondered and was about to nod in agreement when Klein, the "world" at the end of the long table, chuckled:
"I also have an 'Interrogator' Extraordinary Feature here, 1,000 pounds."
Fors's eyes suddenly lit up.
Her friend Xio had mentioned that she was becoming increasingly adept at her duties as a sheriff. Fors, who was well versed in the art of acting, knew that she was probably close to digesting the potion in her body, and an "Interrogator" was the perfect gift for her.
As for "Judge," although her recent income from various royalties and agency fees was still a little short, the first batch of royalties from the "Great Pirate" and "Great Adventurer" series had already been deposited into her account. They had not yet been transferred to her pen pal, so she could barely make up for it if she used them. And now with the additional income from renting "Lemano's Travel Notes", she would soon be able to make up for the shortfall...
Money is easy to come by, but characteristics are hard to find!
Having made up his mind, the "Magician" nodded heavily, shifting from slumped position in the high-backed chair to sitting upright. He quickly negotiated a price, using 1,000 pounds and 3,000 pounds respectively to help his friends obtain Sequence 7 and Sequence 6 Beyonder characteristics.
Even if she doesn't need it, I can ask Mr. Hanged Man to make it into a magical item. If I have another artifact like the travel notes, maybe I can make back all the money I spent... She made excuses for her extravagant behavior.
But then, a trace of doubt arose in Fors' heart: "The Queen" and "The World", could it be that they heard that I received a reward from my teacher and are planning to squeeze me dry?
She glanced at the two of them secretly and rejected the idea.
How could the wealthy adventurers and pirates be interested in my little money?
They didn't even intend to charge money for killing Mr. X!
…
Soon, everyone entered a free discussion session. The long-awaited "Hermit" once again inquired about the clues of the mythical creature's blood. From various inadvertent details, she had already determined that the "Hanged Man" had successfully advanced to Sequence 5. Being in the Rorsted Archipelago and sharing a similar "ecological niche", she was even more eager to advance to Sequence 4.
Upon hearing the Hermit's request, Angel immediately thought of Anne, the Sequence 2 Balancer. Given her personality, it shouldn't be difficult for her to obtain a drop of blood if she requested it. But was the Hermit seeking this blood to craft a high-level spell, or for use in some ritual? The latter might pose a threat to Anne...
As he was hesitating, the "World" spoke again:
"I might try, but what price can you pay to satisfy this angel?"
He wasn't planning on looking for Mr. Azik, was he?... Angel had just made a guess when Klein added:
"It's the angel of the 'Monster' path."
It turns out to be Will Auceptin, but he's still a fetus and isn't due for another two months. How are you going to get his blood?
Angel looked at "The World" with a strange look, and so did the others, but there was shock and excitement in their eyes. The former was because "The World" could directly contact an angel, and the latter was of course happy for the Tarot Club's "connections".
Since he was planning to sell Will, Angel didn't mention Annie. After all, their relationship was merely contractual, and they needed to conserve that trust. Will Auceptin clearly had a special affection for Klein. Even as a fetus, he often went to great lengths to offer him advice. Presumably, this time would be no different...
She smiled secretly, watching the "Hermit" agree to find a price that would satisfy the other party and end the conversation. However, her mind couldn't help but think of the "Queen Anne's Revenge" that had survived from the Fourth Epoch to the present day, and even turned into a young girl who liked to walk back and forth barefoot on her deck.
…
Click, click.
The crisp sound of footsteps clapping continued to ring out. A black-haired girl in a light yellow dress and barefoot walked forward briskly. The stone slabs paving the road under her feet were no longer as smooth as when it was first built, and were covered with moss. However, before she set her foot every time, an invisible force pushed them to the sides, allowing her feet to always remain smooth.
Behind her, Bernadette Gustave, wearing a white Intis-style shirt and black jacket, with a slender rapier at her waist, followed Anne in front of her with more cautious steps, her long leather boots landing accurately on her opponent's footprints, and a rare hint of nervousness appeared on her face.
Beside and above them were stone slabs identical to those beneath their feet, forming a square passage with exactly the same side lengths. Behind them was the faint sound of waves, and in front was a completely dark and silent "grave."
This is the tomb of Russell Gustav, one of his nine tombs.
The tomb of the "Black Emperor"!
