Chapter 18: Loopholes in Restrictions

In this era, in this world, belief in gods is universal. The only difference is which god one believes in. So, even though Roy, Pasha and others do not understand the meaning of the term "angel" in mysticism, they have more or less heard legends about angels from priests, bishops and elders around them. They know that they are servants of gods, powerful creatures that are qualified to be called "Him", and their every move can create miracles, which is absolutely incomparable to ordinary people.

In the minds of these four extraordinary people, angels are holy spirits from another level and another world. Under normal circumstances, they live in the kingdom of God and will not descend into reality. They can be treated as true legends, and there is no need to consider their practical significance. Just like in the wars they have experienced before, although there will occasionally be extraordinary people who make them feel terrified until today, they will definitely not be associated with angels.

The two are not on the same level at all!

But today, a wandering, mysterious "magician" told them that the Patriarch of the Church of War is an angel walking on earth.

Phil and the others believed in the gentleman who had performed so many miracles from the bottom of their hearts. Firstly, the other party met their wishes and was friendly enough. Secondly, they did not think they were qualified to be deceived in this matter. To them, it made no essential difference whether the Patriarch was an angel or an extremely powerful extraordinary person.

The reality of this world is far beyond our imagination... Pasha's mind flashed through the words she often said again.

Roy thought of more.

He remembered that the lady that Mr. Magician had summoned out of thin air said that she was tracking the Patriarch of the Church of the God of War, and that she seemed qualified to see the oracle of the Goddess of Night.

The only one who could track an angel could be another angel... Judging from Mr. Magician's performance in front of the lady, his status would not be much different... Roy quickly retracted his gaze from his subconscious gaze towards Klein's back, and did not dare to look directly at him.

He glanced left and right and found that Phil seemed to have a similar guess. His face, which had turned pale due to blood loss, showed extremely complicated emotions.

Byers held his breath for several seconds before speaking:

"No wonder such an incomprehensible change happened in Beldan..."

"Now is not the time to feel sentimental. Let's go. The curfew will soon take effect." Klein reminded with a smile, not seeming nervous at all.

Pasha glanced at the notice board again and memorized the full content of the curfew order:

"...From 8pm to 8am, walking and gathering outdoors is strictly prohibited..."

"Where should we go?" she asked.

Under the dual restrictions of curfew and trespassing, they seem to have no choice but to accept punishment.

Klein smiled and said:

“It is just strictly prohibited to walk and gather outdoors.”

As he spoke, he tapped the manhole cover next to him with his foot.

Byers' eyes lit up and said:

“Yes, it doesn’t say that you can’t travel inside the sewers!

"In places where curfews were previously in place, the homeless hid in sewers or abandoned buildings."

Roy and the others did not hesitate and immediately stepped forward, using their strength advantage to push open the manhole cover and climb into the sewer.

In the darkness, a dim firelight lit up, and Klein had a lantern in his hand.

Following this magical "magician", Phil said thoughtfully:

“We can go to the hotel next.

"Biles is a local and won't be attacked. We can get a suite. Then, we climb in through the window from the outside. Because we have the owner's permission, it doesn't count as trespassing.

"This way, we can stay here until dawn and wait for the curfew to be automatically lifted."

"It's an interesting idea, but our goal is not to survive until dawn." Klein, who was walking in front with a lantern, responded with a smile.

Roy nodded and said:

"If we do nothing and stay in hotels, the laws will be increased one by one, and it will be so detailed that we cannot let outsiders stay in hotel rooms."

"In fact, the most interesting thing about the proposal just now is not that it found a loophole in the restrictions, but that it reminded me of something." Klein half turned around and looked at Byers and said, "As a local resident of Beldan, he didn't even try to capture outsiders."

In other words, it was not affected by the order on the yellow paper.

This... Pasha and the others looked at Byers with a little caution, their expressions revealing doubts that were difficult to conceal.

What they had just experienced made them certain that the citizens of Beldan had lost their minds in arresting outsiders.

"I don't know why..." Byers whispered in equal confusion.

"Are you still a citizen of Beldan?" Klein asked casually as he walked slowly in the damp and smelly sewer.

Byers followed him and answered with certainty:

"certainly."

Klein said thoughtfully:

"On the one hand, you are a citizen of Beldan, and on the other hand, you are a standard outsider. The two attributes overlap and there is a contradiction. This is why you are neither attacked nor affected in your rationality under that order."

"If we can create this kind of 'contradiction', can we escape the limitations of the rules?" Phil said excitedly.

Pasha shook her head.

"But this kind of 'contradiction' is difficult to create. At least I can't think of any possibility right now..."

At this point, she suddenly paused, hesitated for a moment, and then said:

"The most important thing is that we are far away from the notice board. We have no idea what laws will be issued in the future and there is no way to circumvent them."

By then, I won’t dare to do anything!

Klein smiled and said:

"Don't worry, this mirror will help us see the new additions to the notice board."

He casually showed the "magic mirror" that slid down to his left palm.

Pasha breathed a sigh of relief, then asked in confusion:

“Isn’t this a crime of voyeurism?”

On the surface of the silver mirror, words appeared one by one, as if dripping with blood:

"I look at the notice board like I look at the sun during the day, no need to peek."

Klein took back the "magic mirror" and added with a smile:

"Besides, this is just an item, how can it be a crime?"

That makes sense...Biles and Phil couldn't help but nod.

After Roy figured it out, he let out a breath and asked:

"Our next most important thing is to find that item, but we have no clues at all. As a 'book', it can be anywhere. We can only search the entire city, but it is obviously too late."

"Indeed, we have no idea where '0-02' is. We don't have any clues at all, but there is someone who knows very well." Klein answered leisurely as he listened to the footsteps returning to the sewer.

Pasha's heart moved:

"You mean the Patriarch?"

Klein smiled and nodded:

"'0-02' is either in His hands or hidden somewhere by Him. A 'book' obviously cannot be moved on its own, and this is not something that the current rules can help it accomplish."

"But how do we find the Patriarch?" Byers asked.

Maybe it was because the amazing Mr. Magician was right next to him, but he wasn't so afraid to look for the angel on earth.

Klein held the lantern and said calmly:

"As long as '0-02' does not grant the Patriarch immunity, He must also abide by the laws in the notice.

"He was originally from Feysac, and is undoubtedly not a citizen of Beldan. He cannot enjoy the same treatment as the locals. Similarly, although he is an angel from outside, he is not a stranger in the narrow sense, but he will still be hunted down by the citizens. This is certain."

"In short, the Patriarch must abide by the curfew and cannot break into private homes or hide in public areas that are not open to the public at night. At the same time, the person being tracked should not have a companion like Byers who has dual attributes. Where do you think he will be?"

Roy's eyes turned slightly, and he gave several answers:

"Sewers, cemeteries, churches before midnight, abandoned buildings..."

"You can't enter the cemetery at night. The abandoned buildings themselves have property rights and belong to a certain person or group." Pasha reminded.

“Well, once the passage through the sewers is restricted, we will go to the church to look for the Patriarch or wait for Him.” Klein said in a relaxed tone, as if he was deciding a trivial matter.

Roy, Phil and the others were a little stunned. They didn't expect it to be so easy to lock onto the target.

With just a few words of discussion, the whereabouts of an angel was exposed!

"However, there are several churches in Beldan. We have to act separately to save time. Also, the patriarch may rely on the level and power of the angels to forcibly resist the punishment." Klein said here, lowered his head and said to the "magic mirror" in his palm, "Arrodes, you monitor the entire city and pay attention to any abnormalities."

After instructing the magic mirror, Klein once again dragged Ms. Arianna out from the mist of history and asked her to be responsible for the churches of the Church of Evernight.

After doing these things, he half turned around and said to Roy, Pasha and others:

"If we still can't find the Patriarch, it means that he has either left Beldan and only left 0-02 behind to stop the enemy, or he has already taken control of 0-02 to some extent. In short, we can only use the process of elimination for the time being."

Roy and the others nodded at the same time and continued to follow Klein into the sewer.

After several minutes, the ancient silver mirror began to gleam, reflecting a picture:

There was another piece of white paper on the notice board, with new rules written on it:

"...Due to municipal maintenance needs, from now on, no living creature is allowed to enter the sewer."

"The speed of adding new content has increased..." Klein frowned slightly, whispered, and took out a human leather glove from the air.

Then, he motioned to Pasha and the others to hold hands.

Then he grabbed one of them by the shoulder and led them out of the sewer, "teleporting" them to the nearest Storm Church.

During this process, the four extraordinary people first saw rats and cockroaches in the sewer twitching and dying one after another, and were immediately attracted to the strange and abstract spiritual world, as if they had undergone some kind of baptism on the spiritual level.
