Chapter 23 The Duke

Backlund, West District, in Audra's villa.

Emlyn White, who responded to the call, took off his hat and coat, walked into the living room and waited.

In this room, besides him, there were several other vampires that the big shot had specifically requested to see. After Emlyn looked around, he chose a seat and sat down next to a man with a nose that was so high that it was a little deformed.

The man had brown hair, red eyes, and deep facial features. He was holding a picture album in his hand, flipping through it aimlessly.

He was the vampire who had provided Emlyn with information about the abandoned castle in the center of the Delair Forest. His name was Ernes Boyar, and he was a viscount.

Emlyn had originally planned to visit the Viscount in the next few days, but he didn't expect to meet him here. He thought carefully for a while and said:

"Your Excellency, I know exactly where you got the information about the abandoned castle in the Delaire Forest."

"What? Your customer told you that there are no ancient evil spirits there?" Ernes Boyar turned his eyes away from the album and glanced at Emlyn.

"No, that's not it." Emlyn did not explain, but insisted on asking the question, "I'm just curious about the source of the information. It doesn't sound that simple."

Ernes Boyar closed the album and nodded slightly.

"This is not a secret. I learned it from Lord Nibais. Frankly speaking, I have never heard of this before. It is hard to imagine that there is such an ancient castle in the Delaire Forest."

Lord Nibais... Emlyn intuitively had an idea in his mind:

Another test...

But isn’t this kind of temptation too dangerous? Mr. Fool will have to solve it... Emlyn frowned slightly, recalling some of the details he had considered before, and asked tentatively:

"Your Excellency, why don't you explore the castle yourself? I remember that you are an archaeologist, and you can also obtain extraordinary materials corresponding to ancient vengeful spirits in the process."

O'Ness looked at Emlyn strangely and said:

"Lord Nibais told me that it's very dangerous there, and unless you are an earl, it's best not to get close to it."

"..." Emlyn's mouth was half open, his expression a little dull.

He immediately suppressed his anger and said in a low voice:

"Why didn't you remind me of this before?"

Ernes laughed and said:

“Isn’t this obvious?

"How could such an extraordinary creature, whose specific location and situation we the vampires have mastered, still exist without a special reason?"

Seeing that Emlyn was a little confused, he added:

“Normal intelligence should be like this: there may be an ancient vengeful spirit somewhere in the Delaire Forest. Someone has encountered it before, but the source of its creation cannot be found.

“This means that finding those ancient vengeful spirits is a very difficult and troublesome task. The time cost is likely to be higher than their value, so they can survive until now.

"I thought you could easily find the problem with the intelligence, and the same goes for your customers. If they choose to act, they must have the corresponding confidence."

At the first moment, Emlyn felt that what Viscount Ounes said made a lot of sense and he could not refute it at all. He thought that it was because he and Miss Magician were too stupid to run into danger, and it had nothing to do with the other party.

The next moment, Emlyn felt ashamed and annoyed, and full of resentment towards himself.

At the third moment, Emlyn asked another question:

"Regardless of whether the intelligence itself reveals danger, Ernes Boyar should have made it clear, because figuring out the extent of the danger, the source of the danger, and the manifestation of the danger is of great significance to subsequent exploration and cannot be missed!"

He did it on purpose! Emlyn made the final judgment in his heart, narrowed his scarlet eyes slightly, raised his chin slightly and said:

"Indeed, this is easy to see, but I want to know what dangers are hidden in that abandoned castle."

Ernes picked up the blood-colored red tea next to him, took a sip and said:

"I don't know either. Lord Nibais didn't tell me."

Emlyn's expression darkened, and he was about to sneer when he suddenly saw Cassimy Odra walk into the living room, looked at him and said:

"Emlyn, that great man asked you to go see Him."

"Okay." Emlyn calmed down, held down the lower part of his vest, and stood up at a moderate pace.

After walking down the stairs to the underground area, he finally couldn't bear it anymore and asked in a low voice:

"Who exactly is Baron Cassimir? What should I call him?"

Casimi, who looked like a middle-aged gentleman, did not hide anything and replied with a respectful tone:

"Your Excellency the Duke of Olmer."

Duke Olmer... Emlyn subconsciously straightened his back and cast his eyes towards the lamp stand on the wall next to him, as if he wanted to confirm his appearance from the projection on the metal surface.

This is one of the three dukes who currently rule the blood clan. He is an ancient powerful man who existed before the catastrophe. His title is "Full Moon". He is over three thousand years old and once followed the ancestor Lilith!

There is no doubt that this is synonymous with the history and glory of the blood clan!

After passing through a series of secret doors, Emlyn and Casimi arrived at an iron-gray hall.

The ground and walls here were covered with grass, flowers, and grains, and many insects crawled among the dense plants, making Emlyn feel as if he had left the city and come to the suburbs, feeling the vitality of life.

At first glance, this scene doesn't seem too strange, but if you look closely, many things are extremely strange:

There are cracked mouths on the grass, and fibers fly out of them to catch insects; flowers use branches and leaves as hands to pick nectar by themselves; grains such as wheat are heavy, and occasionally there are cries coming out of them; insects are divided into many categories, all different from normal ones, some have snake heads, and some have bird faces...

These things grew more luxuriantly towards the center of the hall, forming a vibrant tomb there.

Qasimi faced the tomb, bowed respectfully and said:

"Your Excellency the Duke, Emlyn White is here."

"Good afternoon, Your Excellency the Duke." Emlyn was not as arrogant as usual, and even seemed a little at a loss.

In the grave, a mellow voice whose age could not be determined laughed:

“A very outstanding young vampire.

"Casimi, you should get out of here first."

"Yes, Your Excellency the Duke." Casimi bowed in response and left the iron-gray yet refreshing hall.

Emlyn stood there and heard the mellow voice coming from the tomb asking:

"This morning, Nibais said that you have acquired the extraordinary characteristics of an artificial vampire corresponding to the rank of Viscount?"

“Yes, but it is contaminated and needs to be purified first.” Emlyn had not mentioned the matter of removing the mental contamination within the Beyonder Characteristics before because he believed that this was an easy task for the vampires. At least Baron Cassimir had confirmed that it was possible.

The vampire duke Olmer said, “Hmm.”

"Very well, I will purify that feature myself."

He paused and said:

"Although the blood race is a long-lived race, they still grow and age, and are born and die. No matter what, for a race, training young members is a must. You have recently demonstrated outstanding talent and excellent abilities, and have become the one we value most. Therefore, I came to meet you in person and give you some tests so that you can grow as quickly as possible."

Outstanding talent and excellent ability... Emlyn's chin quietly raised a little.

He immediately sighed in his heart:

As expected, just as Mr. Hanged Man had predicted, there would be tests, tasks, and face-to-face scrutiny...

Amidst the emotions, Emlyn responded respectfully:

“I’m always ready.”

"That's right." Olmer's mellow voice came from the grave. "Your next mission is to find the important members of the Rose School hiding in Backlund. In this regard, there are very few clues, and many situations require you to investigate on your own."

"Rose School? Do they have a grudge against us vampires? They seem to have accepted some believers of the 'Original Moon'?" Emlyn had actually learned a lot about the Rose School at the Tarot Club, but he deliberately concealed it and didn't show that much.

"In addition to accepting believers of the 'Original Moon', they also occupy a sacred object of our blood clan. This is a legacy of our ancestor, and we must take it back." Olmer's tone became more serious.

The remains of the ancestor... the holy relic of the blood clan... Emlyn spoke without hesitation:

"Your Excellency the Duke, I will try my best to find important members of the Rose School in Backlund."

Olmer's voice turns into judo:

"Very good, you go to Casimi to get some information and find a breakthrough point."

Emlyn was already a little impatient, but he still restrained himself and asked carefully:

"My Lord Duke, do you know the abandoned castle in the middle of the Delaire Forest?"

"You want to go there? It's very dangerous." The vampire Duke Olmer in the tomb gave the answer.

Emlyn didn't explain and asked directly:

"What kind of danger?"

Olmer laughed and said:

"That castle is perhaps older than I am, and older than the Forest of Dreyar.

“I don’t know who built it, but I know that something is sealed underground, hiding a big secret.

"Any creature that gets close to that place is in danger of being corrupted by the power of corruption. We once thought that this was related to the abyss, but after a demon was thrown into the castle, it was also corrupted and turned from cold and cruel to crazy and chaotic."

Then why don't you try to open the seal and find out the situation? Emlyn muttered in his heart but did not speak.

Olmer, the vampire duke nicknamed "Full Moon", didn't say anything more. He ended the topic and asked Emlyn to leave the hall.

…………

In the evening, dark clouds covered Backlund and a drizzle began to fall.

Emlyn was wearing a top hat as he walked under the covered arcade, his scarlet eyes fixed on Viscount Ernes Boyar who was browsing in the antique shop ahead.

He was angry that the other party deliberately provided incomplete information, and subconsciously followed him after leaving Odra's house.

But after walking for a while, he became confused again, because he had not yet figured out how to deal with Ernes and to what extent.
