Chapter 38 Amateurs

Hearing Klein's question, the beautiful lady with long brown hair elegantly tied up showed no impatience at all. She maintained a polite smile and said:

"Our members are free to tell fortunes for others in the club and set their own prices. We only charge a very low percentage of the fee. If you want to tell fortunes, you can take a look at this brochure. It contains introductions and prices of members who are willing to tell fortunes for others."

"However, today is Monday afternoon, and most of our members are at work and busy, so there are less than five of them here."

As she spoke, she asked Klein to sit on the sofa by the window in the reception hall. She then flipped open the album opposite and pointed out the current members of the club:

"Henas Vincent, a famous fortune teller in Tingen, a permanent mentor at the club, skilled in various forms of divination, charges 4 soli per session."

It’s so expensive! This amount of money can buy Benson, Melissa, and I two sumptuous dinners. Klein was secretly shocked and didn’t answer.

Seeing this, the lady with brown hair continued to turn the pages and introduced them one by one:

"The last one is Glacis, a new member of the club this year. He has mastered tarot divination and charges 2p per reading."

"Sir, which one would you like to choose?"

Klein answered without any politeness:

"Mr. Glacis."

"The pretty lady in charge of reception was silent for two seconds and said, "Sir, I must remind you in advance that Mr. Glacis is only a beginner."

"Understood. I will be responsible for my decision." Klein smiled and nodded.

“Then please follow me.” The beautiful lady stood up and led Klein into the door next to the reception hall.

There is a not too long corridor, at the end of which is an open conference room. It is full of sunlight, and there are tables and chairs, with newspapers, magazines, cards and other things placed on it. A faint aroma of coffee wafts out from it.

When there were still two rooms left to the conference room, the pretty lady in charge of reception signaled Klein to stop. She quickened her pace and walked to the end, saying softly:

"Mr. Glacis, someone wants you to tell fortunes."

"Me?" A voice full of surprise and confusion sounded immediately, accompanied by the sound of a chair moving.

"Yes, which fortune-telling room do you want to use?" the pretty lady replied without any emotion.

"Citrine Room. I like citrine." Gracis appeared at the door of the conference room and looked curiously at Klein who was waiting not far away.

He was a man in his thirties, with dark skin, dark green pupils, soft light yellow hair, wearing a white shirt, a black vest, and a pair of monocles hanging on his chest. He had a good temperament.

The beautiful lady in charge of reception didn't say much and opened the "Citrine" room next to the conference room.

The curtains inside are closed and the light is dim. It seems that only in this way can one receive revelations from God and spirits and obtain accurate divination results.

"Hello, I'm Glacis. I never thought you would choose me to do divination for you." Glacis bowed in a gentlemanly manner, walked into the room quickly, and sat behind the long table. "To be honest, I'm just trying to do divination for others. I don't have much experience yet. For now, I'm not a good fortune teller. You still have a chance to regret it."

After returning the greeting, Klein followed him in and closed the door behind him.

He looked at the light that penetrated the curtains and said with a smile:

"You are such an honest man, but I am a person who sticks to my choices."

"Please take a seat." Glacis pointed to the seat opposite him, thought for a few seconds and said, "Divination is just my hobby. Haha, people often get guidance from gods in their lives, but ordinary people cannot accurately interpret the Lord's meaning. This is the meaning of divination and the reason why I joined this club. In this regard, I don't have enough confidence in myself. Let's treat the following divination as an exchange, a free exchange. How about this proposal? The fee for the club will be borne by myself, only a quarter of a penny."

Klein didn't say yes, nor did he shake his head. Instead, he smiled and said:

"I can see that you have a good, respectable job."

As he spoke, he leaned forward slightly, put his right fist against his forehead, and tapped it twice.

"But this won't improve the accuracy of my divination." Glacis replied humorously, and then asked thoughtfully, "Do you have a headache? Do you want to divine about your health?"

“A little bit at a time. I hope I’m divining about the whereabouts of an item.” Klein had already thought of an excuse and slowly leaned back.

In his eyes, Gracies' body aura was clearly visible, the orange-red color of his lungs was dim and thin, and affected the brightness of the rest.

This was not a sign of fatigue. Klein nodded imperceptibly.

"Looking for lost items?" Glacis thought for a few seconds and said, "Then let's do a simple assessment first."

He pushed the neatly stacked tarot cards on the black table toward Klein:

"Calm down, think about the item in your mind, and silently ask yourself, 'Can I still find it?' As you do this, shuffle and cut the cards."

"Okay." Klein actually didn't remember what the ancient notebook looked like, so he could only expand the question he needed to silently ask: Can the Antigonus family's notebook still be found?

While repeating, he skillfully completed the shuffling and cutting of the cards.

Gracis picked up a piece from the top and pushed it horizontally in front of Klein:

"Turn it clockwise to make it vertical, and then turn it over. If it is reversed, that is, the pattern on the card is facing you upside down, it means that the item cannot be found. If it is upright, then we will continue with the divination and find its specific whereabouts."

Klein followed the prompt and turned the horizontal cards vertically in time.

He twisted the tarot card by the edge and turned it over.

This is a card with the pattern turned upside down and reversed.

"I'm sorry." Glacis sighed.

Klein did not respond because his attention was focused on the tarot card in front of him.

The image on this reversed card is of the Fool wearing gorgeous clothes and a gorgeous headdress!

The Fool again? It can't be such a coincidence. According to The Hanged Man and Old Neil, divination is the result of communication between the spirit and the spirit world, and the higher-level "I". Tarot cards are just a tool for interpreting "symbolic revelations". Theoretically, it doesn't matter what divination item is used. It won't affect the result. Klein frowned slightly and thought for a while before saying:

"Can I tell if that item has already been obtained by someone else?"

"Absolutely, let's do it again in the same way as before." Gracis nodded with great interest.

Klein reshuffled and cut the cards, and pondered the question silently.

He drew the cards, laid them horizontally, and turned them clockwise to vertically, completing his preparations with a serious expression.

After taking a breath, Klein reached out and turned over the tarot card.

Don't be a "fool" again.

In a praying mood, he suddenly relaxed because the card showed a "Star", reversed!

"It seems that the item has not been picked up by others yet." Glacis explained with a smile.

Klein nodded, raised his right hand, and tapped his brows twice as if thinking. Then he took out two dark brass pennies from his trouser pocket and pushed them to Glacis.

"Didn't I say it was free?" Glacis frowned.

Klein smiled and stood up:

"This is a sign of respect for divination."

"Well, thank you for your generosity." Glacis stood up and extended his hand.

After shaking hands, Klein took two steps back, turned around, walked to the door, and turned the handle.

When he was about to go out, he suddenly turned back and said, "Hmm":

"Mr. Glacis, I suggest you see a doctor as soon as possible. It's mainly a lung problem."

"Why?" Glacis asked in surprise.

Is this the result of the divination that I am not satisfied with? Is it cursing me?

Klein thought for a moment and said:

"This is a symptom that can be seen from your complexion. You, um, have a dark spot between your eyebrows."

"Blackness between eyebrows" was the first time that Glacis heard such a description.

Klein didn't explain any more. He smiled and walked out of the room, closing the wooden door.

"Is he an unlicensed doctor or a country pharmacist?" Graces shook his head with a smile and picked up the silver mirror for divination.

He looked carefully and found that there was indeed a black spot between his eyebrows.

But this is a problem of the environment. Under the dim light that penetrated the curtains, not only his eyebrows were black, but his entire face was black!

"A not-so-pleasant joke," Glacis whispered.

He had his health fortune told out of concern and confirmed that there was nothing wrong.

When he left the Divination Club, Klein already had a plan for the future.

That is to save money as quickly as possible, pay the annual fee, become a member of the club, and start playing the so-called "fortune teller".

The reason why I don’t do it on my own is that I don’t have the resources or channels at the moment, and it’s impossible for me to be a street vendor. After all, I am a respectable person and I have to save my dignity.

After a few minutes, he waited for a public carriage and, at a cost of 2 pence, arrived at Zouteland Street, which was not too far away.

When he pushed open the door of Blackthorn Security Company, he did not see the familiar brown-haired girl. Instead, he found Leonard Mitchell, a poet with black hair and green eyes, sitting behind the reception desk.

"Good afternoon. Where's Roxanne?" Klein asked after taking off his hat and saluting.

Leonard smiled and pointed at the partition door:

"She's on duty at the weapons depot tonight."

Without waiting for Klein to ask again, Leonard said as if he was thinking about something:

"Klein, there is something I've been wondering about."

“What’s going on?” Klein looked confused.

Leonard stood up and said with a soothing smile:

"Why did Welch and Naya commit suicide on the spot, but you returned home?"

"It should be that unknown existence that wants me to take the Antigonus family's notes away and hide them." Klein said the generally accepted speculation.

Leonard paced a few steps, then suddenly turned around and looked directly into Klein's eyes:

"If I asked you to commit suicide in order to silence you and erase all clues, then why didn't I just let you destroy the notebook on the spot?"
