Chapter 9: Ancient Ghost

Fors' pupils suddenly dilated, as if to take in more light so that she could see clearly what Xio looked like now.

At the same time, a light suddenly burst out in front of her, several times brighter than an old model camera, making the surroundings appear white.

Immediately afterwards, her fingers slid across one of the pages of "Lemanno's Travel Notes", and a black mist rose from under her feet, completely covering her entire body.

The thick black fog quickly differentiated into palm-sized illusory bats, which flew to different locations in the underground hall.

This is "Wings of Darkness" recorded by "Moon" in "Lemano's Travel Notes!"

Its original function was to increase speed, allow for short-term flight, and to transform into a group of vampire bats to attack the enemy, but Fors did not use it in this way. He just used it as a "prop" for magic performances.

After all the illusory bats flew away, the place where Fors had just stood was empty.

Her figure moved to ten meters away at some point!

After subconsciously performing actions of escape and self-protection, Fors finally calmed down a little and quickly turned his gaze to the abnormal Xio.

However, the Hugh that came into her sight had slightly messy blond hair, and a slightly tanned face from long hours outdoors. His expression was a little confused and surprised, as if he was surprised at his friend's sudden overreaction, and there was no sign of him being affected by the vengeful ghost.

"What happened?" Xio asked cautiously.

Fors narrowed his eyes and did not answer directly. He flipped through "Lemanno's Travel Notes" and asked back:

"Xiu, what is your real height now?"

Hugh replied as if he had realized something:

"152, right?"

Before she finished her words, Fors's fingers had already slid across the symbols and magical signs on the page of notes in her hand.

Silently, a sacred light surrounded by flames descended from the height of the underground hall.

It was bright and glorious, immediately enveloping the whole place and radiating circles of sunlight outward.

The blazing light pierced Fors' eyes, allowing her to see the entire hall collapse, and the surrounding space shattered like glass.

This feeling was fleeting, and Fors was a little dazed to find that he was still standing in the same place as before and had not escaped.

Was it just an illusion? She hurriedly turned her head to look to the side, and sure enough, she saw Xio looking at the damaged area near the heavy door as normal.

Fors considered it for a moment, then opened his mouth and said:

"Xiu, what is your real height now?"

Xio glanced at her and said unhappily:

"Don't ask such stupid questions!"

Phew, it’s true… Fors breathed a sigh of relief and quickly described the key points of what had happened to Xio.

Xio thought for a few seconds, then touched Fors' arm with his left hand holding the lantern and said:

"Step back for a distance first. Maybe the closer you get to that door, the easier it will be to hallucinate."

"Well, it's possible!" Fors nodded in agreement and quickly took a few steps back.

Then, she looked around again and said with a hint of doubt:

“Why can’t we find any vengeful ghosts here?

"They should like this kind of environment."

Xio was also surprised, and then he began to observe carefully, and finally his eyes fell on the ball of sunlight floating above Fors's head.

"Try to put it out," she suggested.

Fors suddenly realized something and immediately stopped the light ball from illuminating.

Darkness surged in silently, dominating the underground hall once again. Only the dim light of the lantern was a tiny resistance to it all.

Then, two figures appeared in Fors’s “spiritual vision”.

They were both approaching the bronze gate. One was a woman with her hair tied up, wearing knight trousers and a fancy shirt that were easy to move in. The other was a man wearing silver-black armor and holding a long sword that was about to rust.

The former's face was blurred, and he kept going back and forth between the gate and the area that Fors and Xio had arrived at earlier, while the latter was lingering by the door, muttering something to himself.

Are these the two ancient vengeful spirits? Fors nudged Xio with his elbow and said in a low voice:

“I saw a spirit.”

"I saw it too. They didn't hide." Xio bent his body slightly and got into a fighting stance.

Fors touched her again.

"Don't rush, we're not sure it's the target yet."

She tried to take three steps forward, but the two blurry figures didn't even look at her.

For thought for a moment, then suddenly said:

"Ma'am, what are you doing?"

——She had heard some stories in other mystical circles before, saying that it was possible to communicate with higher-level spiritual beings such as resentful spirits and shadows.

But before she finished her words, she regretted it, because even if she could really communicate, she would not be able to achieve her goal. She could not persuade the other party to commit suicide and hand over the cursed objects and residual spirituality of the ancient vengeful spirit.

Just as Fors was considering whether to attack directly, the lady in the fancy shirt and knight trousers answered her question in a flat tone:

“I’m looking for my husband.

"He's the guard here."

We can really communicate... Fors asked curiously:

"Where did he go?"

At this time, Xio also came over, still looking highly alert.

The blurry lady responded stiffly:

“He is the guard here. He told me that a strange power seeped out from behind the door and corroded his teammates. He asked me to take the messenger and leave here as soon as possible.

"He said he would protect me until I escaped safely, but I didn't want that. I wanted to leave with him... After sending the messenger away, I turned back halfway and went to look for him underground, but I couldn't find him no matter what..."

Judging from the age of this castle that is beyond the current era, the last guard here can indeed evolve into an ancient vengeful spirit. Well, this lady's story touched me, and I really can't bear to attack her... Fors thought about it and took careful steps, bypassing the female ancient vengeful spirit and coming to the area near the bronze gate.

During this journey, neither she nor Hugh had any more hallucinations, which seemed to indicate that her previous experience was an unconscious result of the lady's actions.

Not far away from the knight ghost wearing silver-black armor and holding a rusty longsword, Fors tried to speak again:

"Sir, what are you doing?"

The Knight's Ghost paused and hummed:

"I am guarding this dark door, and I want to make sure my wife can escape to safety.

"If you ever meet her, please tell her that her knight will fight for her until the very end."

Ah... the pitch-black door, this is clearly a bronze door... Wait, what did he just say? He said he was guarding the door to ensure his wife's safe escape? Isn't this the other half of the prototype described by the lady before? Is this her husband? Fors was stunned for a moment, and moved her eyes back and forth between the two ancient ghosts:

The lady in the fancy shirt and knight trousers approached the bronze gate step by step, and then turned around and returned to the center of the hall after arriving. This cycle continued endlessly. The man in the silver-black armor was holding a rusty long sword, always lingering by the door. They passed each other from time to time, but never looked at each other.

This scene lasted for at least 1,500 years, or even longer... Fors sighed silently, turned his head to glance at Xiou, and found that a layer of mist had already covered his friend's eyes.

She is such an easily moved person... Fors could no longer bear it and shouted at the female ghost:

"Look at the door, your husband is always there!"

The woman in the fancy shirt and knight trousers slowed down her pace, first glanced at Fors, and then turned her gaze to the heavy door.

Her dull gaze passed through the knight in silver-black armor and fell behind him.

"I can't find him no matter how hard I try..." The vengeful spirit repeated the words and actions he had just spoken.

Fors felt inexplicably sad. Just as he was about to shout again, he saw the knight in silver-black armor turned his head and looked at him and Xio, and shouted:

"Who are you?"

As soon as he finished speaking, the female ghost once again turned her gaze towards Xio and Fors.

Fors suddenly felt her thoughts slow down, and a cold mass seemed to form quickly inside her body, spreading out and freezing her flesh and joints. In her eyes, Xio seemed to have experienced something similar, and the area around the lantern dimmed a lot.

At this moment, two lightning-like lights suddenly lit up in Xio's eyes.

The male ghost groaned in pain and his figure blurred for a moment.

Xio instantly got rid of the "frozen" feeling and threw the triangular thorn in his hand towards the female ghost.

At the tip of the triangular spike, some illusory electric light kept jumping and directly hit the woman in the fancy shirt and knight trousers.

"Spiritual Whipping"!

The female ghost screamed and her figure became increasingly blurry.

Fors's mind suddenly became clear, and her fingers slid across the "Lemanno Travel Notes" that she had opened earlier.

The surrounding shadows suddenly gathered together as if alive, turning into pitch-black chains, trapping the Knight Ghost in place and sealing its "mouth".

"Shackles of the Abyss"!

At the same time, Xio rushed out, with the image of the female ghost reflected in his eyes, holding an illusory hot iron in his hand, and imprinted it on the target.

With her entangled with the female ghost, Fors's movements became more relaxed.

She flipped through the pages of "Lemanno's Travel Notes" one by one, her fingers sliding over them one after another.

Silver-white lightning with outstretched branches fell from the sky and struck the knight's ghost one after another, turning that place into a purgatory of lightning.

In the end, a clear column of light wrapped in a sacred flame flashed, enveloping the knight's ghost and completely purifying it.

Seeing that one enemy had been dealt with, Fors immediately turned around and dealt with the female ghost together with Xio.

She did not skimp on the abilities in "Lemanno's Travel Notes", cleverly combining the appropriate parts, using Hugh's involvement to sometimes restrict and sometimes attack, and it didn't take long to eliminate the target.

Everything became quiet. Fors took a deep breath and looked at the battlefield with an unbelievable look:

"Is this the end?"

She originally thought that the two ancient vengeful spirits had special abilities and were at a high level, and that it would be difficult to deal with them unless she was a Sequence 5 quasi-powerful person. However, she found that things were progressing unusually smoothly.

This made her truly realize that "Lemanno's Travel Notes" is indeed a magical artifact, and she became more and more yearning for the next sequence "Recorder".

Xio was also quite surprised, and after thinking for a few seconds, he said:

"No wonder someone told me that below the Demigods, the number of Beyonders, their coordination with each other, and the degree to which their abilities are applied are more important than their Sequence level."

As soon as she finished saying this, she heard the sound of knocking suddenly.

This broke the silence of the underground hall, coming from behind the bronze door.
