In January, I was busy with the annual meeting and family matters, and I was habitually stuck in writing. I often had to stay up late to catch up on my manuscripts. I was sick twice in a row, one was gastroenteritis, and the other was a recent cold and sore throat. So, the updates this month were not so stable, with several chapters missing and occasionally a minute or two late. Of course, it was only occasionally. Most of the time, the updates were a few minutes late because the backend of Qidian was always stuck, and the updates could not be refreshed, forcing me to modify the chapters and resubmit them before they could be successful (manually funny).

I took a look and found that "Mystery" is almost two million words. This is probably the book that has reached two million words most unconsciously since I have been writing books. Because for the time being, there are still many things to write and many plots to unfold. I don't need to think too hard and can just lay it out layer by layer according to the prepared structure.

Of course, this does not mean that writing is not difficult. After more than seven years of writing, it is only with this book that I have truly summarized many vague ideas into my own experience. Unlike in the past, when I was creating, it was like being stuffed into a cloth bag, in darkness, struggling hard, groping slowly, and always being trapped in the same place, or like a novice driver who has just started on the road, driving cautiously, tense, sweating, and only able to focus on what is in front of him.

Among the self-experiences I have summarized, one is "gentle". Yes, this one only has these two words, but I don't know how many tens of thousands of words and how many plots it took to condense it. It means that the transition, development and outburst of the plot cannot be abrupt. Even if you want to make it stand out, there must be a certain inconspicuous foreshadowing in advance, so that people will feel that the unexpected is reasonable, and they will shout "Fuck, there is such a development", instead of "Oh my god, what a development".

Adhering to the word "gentle", when I read the previous books again, I can obviously feel that the handling of some plots is a bit stiff, and a small part is even awkward, as if it must develop in this way in order to advance some plot.

So, I am a typical player who writes slower and slower. When the first few hundred thousand words of Destruction were written, I could go to work during the day and start work at 8 o'clock in the evening. I would open Word and just work, and I could finish 6,000 words around 12 o'clock. During the time when Arcane was put on the shelves, I could write 15,000 words a day for the ** part. But now, 6,000 words a day would be difficult, and 9,000 words would be almost fatal.

On the one hand, I have to admit that I'm getting old and I'm no longer a young man in my twenties. On the other hand, my typing speed is not slow, but a lot of time is spent thinking about how the plot should develop smoothly. Combining the set structure and the rough outline, I came up with many possibilities, and then eliminated them one by one, finding the softest and most comfortable one, and finally fixing it. The interval between two paragraphs is the most painful to write every time, and this is also the most difficult part.

The third part is the most difficult one I have written so far, because its style is different from the previous two. It is in a state of travel, and I will constantly say goodbye to familiar people and meet new people. This means that after I have finally established a few good supporting characters, which make the plot development not monotonous or empty, I have to temporarily give up after a few plots to build new supporting characters. This is really a very painful thing. Of course, it is also a challenge for me.

Also, I will gradually unfold the corresponding stories of the Tarot Club members. This is another challenge. I hope it will not be too overwhelming and still be attractive.

After the summary, let me talk about the update plan for February. The Chinese New Year is approaching, and there are many trivial things to do. I have been writing for almost 10 months, and my body and mind have accumulated a lot of fatigue. I plan to take a break and adjust my state during the Chinese New Year. Therefore, from February 2nd to February 12th, there will be single updates, and normal updates will resume at 12:30 noon on February 13th.

Taking a break is for going further. I hope everyone can understand that, well, there are still many big plots that have been preset for the mystery. I don’t think it will be completed in 2019. We still have more than a year, and it is best to take it slow and steady.
