Bai Qianmo returned to the Bai family home, where only Aunt Zhang was still there.
Aunt Zhang was busy in the kitchen when she heard a noise coming from the living room, so she ran out with a smile.
"Miss Qianmo, would you like some of the black chicken soup I made? It's very nourishing."
"Give me a bowl." She had barely eaten anything at the birthday party tonight, and now she was really hungry.
"Okay, please wait a moment."
Aunt Zhang turned and ran into the kitchen. A moment later, she carefully came out carrying a bowl of black chicken soup with a chicken leg in it.
Aunt Zhang placed the bowl next to Bai Qianmo and said with a smile, "These are chicken legs that Madam called this afternoon to order. She said that Miss Xiruo has low blood sugar and needs to drink some black chicken soup to replenish her body. I stewed a lot, and there's still some in the pot."
Bai Qianmo held the spoon, skimmed the goji berries and oil floating on the surface of the soup, and slowly took a sip.
"So, I still benefited from Bai Xiruo's fame?"
Bai Xiruo has been hospitalized for the past two days, and Bai Kangyan and Han Songyan have been accompanying her at the hospital almost all day.
Bai Xiruo couldn't get used to the food at the hospital, so Zhang Sao would prepare the meals and then the Bai family's driver would personally pick them up and deliver them to her.
This kind of treatment is truly befitting of being Bai Kangyan and Han Songyan's cherished little princess.
Aunt Zhang looked embarrassed: "Miss Qianmo, that's not what I meant. I'm so clumsy with words. I was just thinking you could have some chicken soup to nourish your body, and I completely forgot about you and Miss Xiruo..."
Bai Qianmo curved her lips into a smile and said, "I know you didn't mean anything by it."
Seeing that Bai Qianmo didn't take it to heart, Aunt Zhang's anxious expression softened.
I couldn't help but sigh.
She has been with the Bai family for some time now. Although the Bai couple has not revealed Bai Qianmo's identity, they only say that they have a son and a daughter.
But living here every day, she gradually understood from the family's daily conversations that the real Miss Bai was Bai Qianmo, while Bai Xiruo was just a child who was switched at birth in the hospital twenty years ago.
She was also a parent herself. Seeing how much Han Songyan doted on Bai Xiruo, who wasn't her biological daughter, while treating her own daughter, whom she had carried for ten months, with disdain and indifference, she thought, "What a heartless mother!"
After drinking the chicken soup, Bai Qianmo's gaze fell on the pastries that Old Madam Gu had given her, and she picked up a box of pastries and handed it to Zhang Ma.
"Miss Qianmo, this is..."
"For you."
"This packaging looks incredibly expensive, doesn't it? How could a maid like me possibly eat something like this?" Aunt Zhang shrank her hands, refusing to reach out and take it.
Although she came from the countryside, she had stayed with the Bai family for a while. The Bai family's pastries were said to cost hundreds of yuan for a small piece. How could someone of her status accept such expensive pastries from them?
Bai Qianmo walked up to Aunt Zhang and said, "Today is my friend's birthday. His chef makes delicious pastries. When I left, my friend's grandmother gave me a few boxes, and they were free."
Aunt Zhang hesitated for a moment before carefully taking it from her: "Is it really a gift from a friend?"
Bai Qianmo laughed: "Really!"
"Then I'll accept it, thank you, Miss Qianmo."
Bai Qianmo picked up her backpack, took the remaining three boxes of pastries, and prepared to go to the Bai family's old house tomorrow at noon to let the old man and his aunt have a taste.
Even someone like her, who isn't picky about food, thought Gu Jia's pastries were delicious, so she figured the older folks must love them.
"I'm going upstairs, Aunt Zhang."
"Okay, don't stay up too late, go to bed early."
Bai Qianmo waved and left the restaurant.
Aunt Zhang sat at the dining table, staring at the exquisite box for a while before slowly opening it. Upon seeing the pastries inside, Aunt Zhang was filled with amazement.
It's definitely something only the rich can afford. She'd never even seen this kind of pastry before, let alone eaten it.
*
Bai Qianmo returned to her room, threw herself on the bed, and stared blankly.
The events that had just transpired between her and Gu Jueye in the nearby park kept flashing through her mind.
His confession came so suddenly that it caught her completely off guard.
But upon closer reflection, she realized that she had long understood his attitude towards her, but she simply didn't want to delve into it further.
Suddenly remembering that kiss, Bai Qianmo reached out and touched her lips, feeling a strange flutter in her heart.
She didn't seem to reject his closeness; on the contrary, she seemed to have a hint of anticipation when he kissed her.
Is this what liking someone is?
"bite!"
The phone rang once.
Bai Qianmo got out of bed and reached into her bag to pull out her phone.
I glanced at it and saw that it was a WeChat message from Gu Jueye.
Didn't they just break up? Why is he messaging me now?
When Bai Qianmo opened WeChat, she noticed that Gu Jueye's profile picture had been changed to the same one as hers at some point.
Her profile picture was of a girl flying a kite from behind; he actually stole her picture?
Gu Jueye: "Asleep?"
Bai Qianmo placed her fingertip on the screen, hesitated for a long time before replying.
X (Unknown): "I'm getting ready to sleep, is something wrong?"
Gu Jueye: "It's nothing, I just wanted to say goodnight to you."
Bai Qianmo stared blankly at her phone screen for a while. Was this what he meant when he started pursuing her?
A morning and evening greeting, and a goodnight greeting, every day without fail?
Sir, you're really being too formal.
Bai Qianmo tilted her head and thought for a while before opening the dialog box and typing in the text.
X (unknown): "Happy birthday, and thank you for supporting my 3999 wallet at the party tonight..."
