Chapter 236 Decluttering and Letting Go!

As soon as Bai Qianmo returned to the Bai family's old residence, she heard Han Songyan's angry voice.

"Qianmo clearly conspired with Song Qing. I was wondering why Song Qing suddenly thought of inviting Xiruo and me to the banquet. When we got there, we found out that we were just there to be humiliated."

“Dad, you didn’t see what happened back then. Xi Ruo was ridiculed and bullied by a group of socialites, and I was also mocked and ridiculed by Song Qing and her friends. The whole process was like we were in hell. We wanted to leave but felt it was impolite, so we endured the embarrassment until now before we came back.”

"Mom, let's not talk about these things with Grandpa, Uncle, and Aunt. Qianmo didn't mean it. I was so stupid back then. I thought Qianmo couldn't dance, so I just wanted to help her out. Who would have thought that Qianmo would dance so well?" Bai Xiruo's voice was choked with tears, and she looked aggrieved.

Bai Qianmo walked to the door, crossed her arms, and glanced coldly at Bai Xiruo and Han Songyan.

No wonder the mother and daughter left in such a hurry; they had come to the old house to complain.

Bai Kangyan sat next to Han Songyan and Bai Xiruo.

The old man sat on the single sofa at the head of the table.

Xu Hualan and her son Bai Yitang sat on another sofa with a middle-aged man in a suit and tie.

Bai Qianmo's gaze swept lightly over the people sitting there before she stepped inside.

"grandfather."

"Qianmo is back!" Old Master Bai's expression was somewhat somber. When he looked up at Bai Qianmo, he forced a smile.

Xu Hualan and the man in the suit stood up.

"Qianmo, this is your eldest uncle."

Bai Qianmo greeted Bai Kangcheng politely, "Uncle, you're finally back."

Bai Kangcheng's deep and wise gaze lingered on Bai Qianmo's face for a while before he smiled and said, "Qianmo, your uncle has finally met you in person. Your grandfather and aunt have been praising you the whole time they've been talking about you, saying that you are well-behaved, sensible, filial, and thoughtful."

"It's because my grandfather and aunt love me that they think I'm perfect."

Bai Yitang complained, "It's like the difference between how they treat me and how they treat me. Dad, you have no idea how I've been coping lately."

Bai Kangcheng glared at his son: "I know your temperament very well. If I treat you any better, you'll start showing off and causing trouble."

Xu Hualan laughed and said, "What your dad said is true. If you were half as well-behaved as Qianmo, we wouldn't always be nagging you."

Bai Yitang curled his lip. Sure enough, the whole family was targeting him.

Han Songyan's expression was gloomy. She had just scolded Bai Qianmo for her faults, and Bai Kangcheng and Xu Hualan praised this brat in front of her. Wasn't this a slap in the face to her in public?

"Bai Qianmo, in front of your grandfather and all the elders, tell me honestly, was it your bad idea that Song Qing invited us to dinner tonight?"

Old Bai glanced at Bai Qianmo but made no move to speak up in her defense.

He was genuinely surprised when Han Songyan revealed that Qianmo and the Ji family were godparents.

Just how many things is this girl hiding from him? And each and every one of them surprises him so much.

So he was also very interested to hear what the girl had to say.

Bai Qianmo glanced at Han Songyan with a calm gaze and said coldly, "No."

Han Songyan sneered, clearly not believing what Bai Qianmo said.

"If you hadn't said anything to Song Qing, why would she be so hostile towards me? And even think of inviting me to a banquet to humiliate me in public? Our Bai family and her Ji family have no long-standing feud or recent grudges. If it wasn't for you, what other reason could she have?"

Xu Hualan couldn't listen any longer and gently scolded, "Han Songyan, why don't you look for the reason within yourself? Why is Qianmo's godmother targeting you?"

Han Songyan's face was full of contemptuous sneers: "Sister-in-law, this is a matter between my daughter and me. It's best for an outsider like you to stay out of it."

"Han Songyan, how dare you speak to your sister-in-law like that?" Bai Kangyan rebuked her coldly.

Han Songyan coldly swept her gaze across the crowd: "I see now. Ever since Bai Qianmo returned to this family, you've all sided with her, completely forgetting about Xi Ruo, haven't you? You all adapt so quickly. You've all watched Xi Ruo grow up, haven't you? Today, Xi Ruo was bullied in public, and not one of you spoke up to protect her. Now, I'm merely questioning Bai Qianmo, and what? You can't bear to let her go?"

"Heh, to tell you the truth, I've never treated this brat as my daughter. I know she's never considered me her mother either. In my heart, my daughter has always been Xi Ruo. Today she's been humiliated, and I'm going to get justice for her."

Han Songyan's words were almost a shout, as if she had been suppressing these feelings for a long time.

"Mom, please stop, please stop." Bai Xiruo sobbed softly, two lines of tears hanging on her white face, a sight that filled one's heart with pity.

Bai Kangyan frowned, his brows arching high like two small hills, his thin lips pressed tightly together, tinged with a faint bluish-purple.

He stared intently at the mother and daughter, and after a long while, his gaze turned to Bai Qianmo.

"Qianmo, you... you really let Song Qing deliberately humiliate your mother and Xiruo?"

Bai Qianmo, who had been expressionless, remained silent for a long time after hearing Bai Kangyan's question, before a cold smile gradually appeared on her lips.

"Would you believe me if I said no? Didn't you already have the answer in your heart when you asked that question?"

Bai Qianmo felt a chill in her heart, as if the last vestige of her longing for that home had been extinguished by a bucket of cold water.
