Xia Wei rushed back from Shanghai late at night.
After leaving the train station, I hailed a taxi and rushed back to the Guo family home. It was almost midnight.
When Butler Guo opened the door and saw Xia Wei looking travel-worn, he hurriedly helped carry her luggage inside.
"Miss Xia, why didn't you call me before you came back? I could have had the driver pick you up."
Xia smiled slightly, a hint of fatigue in her eyes: "It's very convenient to get a taxi outside the station. It's so late, the drivers need to rest too."
Butler Guo helped carry Xia Wei's luggage into her bedroom: "Miss Xia, are you hungry? I'll tell the kitchen to make you some late-night snacks."
Xia Wei put her backpack on the bed and rubbed her slightly sore wrists: "No need, I already ate on the train."
"Okay, you should get some rest."
After finishing his speech, Butler Guo left Xia Wei's room. Xia Wei put her suitcase on the bed, took out her pajamas, and went straight to the bathroom.
After taking a hot shower and drying her hair, Xia Wei originally wanted to go straight to sleep, but she couldn't resist going upstairs to see Xiaomidou. She had been gone for more than forty days and really missed him.
As soon as they stepped outside, Butler Guo, who had left a wall lamp lit in the living room, went upstairs in the dim light.
Xia Wei pushed open the door to Xiaomidou's room, turned on her phone's light, and tiptoed to the bedside.
She turned on the bedside lamp and, in the soft orange light, looked at the sleeping baby in bed. A look of satisfaction appeared on Xia Wei's tired face.
It's strange, even though she and Xiaomidou are not related by blood, she feels a special emotion when she sees the child. When she goes out to film, she often misses the little guy. Perhaps this is a special kind of fate.
Xia Wei reached out and gently pinched Xiaomidou's chubby little face, chuckled, and tucked the blanket in.
Just as Xia Wei turned to leave, a dark shadow loomed over her and pressed down on her.
She suddenly widened her eyes and tried to scream, but a warm hand immediately covered her mouth.
Xia Wei made "mmm" sounds, struggling and twisting her body, trying to break free from the other person's embrace.
"It's me!"
A deep voice rang out, and Xia Wei's eyes widened in astonishment, and she stopped struggling.
Once he was sure she had calmed down, his deep gaze lingered on her face for a moment before he slowly released the hand that was covering her mouth, but his other hand remained around her waist.
"Mr. Guo... what are you doing here?"
A faint smile played on Guo Qiheng's usually cold and aloof expression: "That's the question I should be asking Miss Xia."
Xia Wei gave an awkward laugh and looked down at Xiaomidou on the bed.
“Xiao Mi Dou likes to kick off the blankets when he sleeps at night. Now that the weather is getting colder, I’m worried he’ll catch a cold, so I came to check on him.”
Guo Qiheng nodded knowingly: "Miss Xia seems to like my son very much?"
Xia Wei: "..."
It was a bit surprising that Guo Qiheng would ask such a question, after all, in her eyes, this man never talked nonsense in front of her.
"Yes, Xiaomidou is very cute, well-behaved and smart. I really like him."
Guo Qiheng stared intently at Xia Wei for a while: "Miss Xia, do you prefer my son or all children?"
Xia Wei frowned. What was the question?
Why does Mr. Guo seem a bit strange tonight?
"Mr. Guo, is there a conflict between my liking for children and my liking for millet beans?"
"If it's the latter, Guo Muhan should be very happy." I would be very happy too.
Someone silently added a comment in their mind.
Xia Wei's understanding was only superficial. When she heard Guo Qiheng's words, she thought it was just the mentality of a child who wanted to monopolize a toy. In addition, Xiao Mi Dou was introverted and not good at socializing with other children, so she was more dependent on her.
“I really like children. Back in my hometown, all the neighborhood kids would fawn over me. But I have a special fondness for Xiaomidou. If I go away for a while and don’t see him, I can’t help but miss him. Maybe there’s some kind of special connection between us.”
Guo Qiheng's gaze was dark and deep, his shrewd eyes fixed intently on the girl before him.
He thought to himself, "Perhaps this is the bond of blood being thicker than water."
"Miss Xia, you've never been a mother, yet you're so patient with a little child. Your boyfriend must love you very much."
Thinking of those photos, Guo Qiheng's large hand, which was clasped around Xia Wei's waist, tightened slightly.
Feeling the continuous heat from the hot palm behind her, Xia Wei realized that their current posture was far too intimate.
She immediately took a step back, avoiding a dangerous distance, her cheeks slightly flushed, her gaze somewhat hesitant to look at the handsome, refined face above her.
Guo Qiheng's aura always carried a suffocating sense of oppression. Although he was polite and distant, and spoke and acted with elegance and gentlemanliness, for some reason, she would feel particularly nervous every time she saw this man.
As a result, my brain never works properly when I talk to him, and I end up saying things in a daze, only to feel that they were inappropriate afterward.
Seeing Xia Wei hanging her head and remaining silent like an ostrich, a hint of displeasure flashed across Guo Qiheng's cold face.
"Mr. Guo, you may have misunderstood, I..."
Xia Wei wanted to say that she didn't have a boyfriend, but just as she was about to speak, her phone, which was on the bedside table, suddenly rang.
Xia Wei was startled and realized that her phone was ringing. She immediately went over to pick it up, quickly glanced at Xiaomidou, and thought that she had disturbed the little guy. She looked at Guo Qiheng with pleading eyes, then pressed the answer button and walked out of the room.
