Inside the study, Old Master Gu was arguing with Gu Jueye, his face ashen.
"Why aren't you following the script? What kind of setup is this?"
He had studied this kid's playing style for so long, but he still couldn't figure out his strategy. Every time they played, this kid could find a new way to beat him.
Gu Jueye smiled helplessly: "If chess only uses a few fixed openings, wouldn't the patterns have been figured out long ago?"
Grandpa Gu pushed up his reading glasses, held a black chess piece in his hand, stared at the chessboard, hesitant, as if no matter where he placed it, his opponent could immediately block his escape route.
Just then, there was a soft knock on the study door.
"Come in!" Old Master Gu's mind was completely focused on the chessboard, and he didn't even glance at the door.
Gu Jueye heard the door open and seemed to guess who it was; his sexy, thin lips slowly curved upwards.
Bai Qianmo pushed open the door and saw the grandfather and granddaughter sitting cross-legged on either side of the chessboard, on which many black and white pieces had already been placed.
Gu Jueye looked at Bai Qianmo, and their eyes met in the air, each with a faint smile in their eyes.
"This is the last game, so please think carefully about how to play."
Bai Qianmo walked over, and Gu Jueye reached out and took her hand, pulling her to sit down beside him.
When did you arrive?
"I just arrived a little while ago, and Grandma Gu asked me to call you out for dinner."
Gu Jueye played with Bai Qianmo's hand under the chessboard with his large hand, his fingertips gently rubbing her palm. He smiled and whispered in Bai Qianmo's ear, "Wait a little longer. The old man won't let you go when he's halfway through the game."
Grandpa Gu glared at Gu Jueye with a hint of annoyance. "You brat, all you do is sabotage me."
His gaze softened considerably when he looked at Bai Qianmo.
"Qianmo, I remember you said last time that you knew a little about chess?"
Bai Qianmo nodded truthfully.
"I know a little bit."
"Come on, help me see what my next move should be?" Old Master Gu waved excitedly.
Bai Qianmo looked at Gu Jueye.
Gu Jueye smiled and said, "Go ahead."
Bai Qianmo nodded, got up and walked to Bai Lao's side. Bai Lao immediately got up and gave her his seat.
"Sit down and take a good look at this for me. It would be even better if you could break this deadlock."
"Okay!" Bai Qianmo sat down and her gaze fell on the chessboard.
For about a minute or two, Bai Qianmo's gaze never left the chessboard.
Old Master Gu originally just wanted Qianmo to give it a try, and he didn't expect that she could actually break the current predicament.
Seeing that Bai Qianmo hadn't spoken since sitting down, Old Master Gu said softly, "If you don't know how to play, then forget it. This kid is used to using ruthless moves when playing chess, so it's very difficult to break his game."
Bai Qianmo agreed with Bai Lao's statement. Bai Lao was the black piece and Gu Jueye was the white piece. Logically speaking, the black piece seemed to have the advantage of moving first, but when facing a true master, the one who enters the game first is more likely to make a mistake.
Especially when you encounter a true master, the moment you make your first move, the master can see the whole picture and lay out a meticulous trap, calculating every move against you.
Just like now, Gu Jueye's every move is extremely clever. It seems that every place is giving Old Master Gu a way out, but in reality, three of the four walls are blocked, leaving only one way out, which is the expected escape route.
After quickly assessing the overall situation, Bai Qianmo picked up a black piece and placed it towards the center of one of the cross points.
When Gu Lao saw the black piece that Bai Qianmo had placed, he looked worried. This girl must really be as she said, only knowing a little bit about it.
Gu Jueye's expression was completely different. A bright light flashed in his deep eyes as he looked at Bai Qianmo with a gentle smile.
Pick up the white piece and place it on the board immediately afterward.
Bai Qianmo quickly found a breakthrough and fell into the black pieces again.
Gu Jueye also stepped up and placed a white piece.
After a fierce battle, the game gradually became clear, and Grandpa Gu finally understood Bai Qianmo's strategy.
She used the Second Stream and Kobayashi styles throughout her opening, but added her own variations on top of that, so in a normal game, it's hard to guess her moves until the very end.
At this point, the black and white pieces had densely filled the entire chessboard, resembling two armies clashing on a battlefield, with smoke and a palpable sense of impending battle.
Grandpa Gu was overjoyed.
He had studied Go for decades and encountered many talented opponents, but his grandson was definitely a rare and exceptional Go genius. If this kid put in his full effort, he, as the grandfather, was afraid he would lose before even half a game.
This was the first time he had ever seen someone truly get the kid completely absorbed in the game.
That's really strange!
In the restaurant
Grandma Gu and Aunt Mei served the food to the table one after another, but still not many people came out.
"How come even Qianmo can't get these two, grandfather and granddaughter, to move?"
Aunt Mei smiled and said, "Perhaps Miss Qianmo is also engrossed in watching it."
"Pour out the chicken soup, I'll go check on it."
"good!"
Grandma Gu walked into the study, opened the door, and saw Bai Qianmo and Gu Jueye playing chess. She looked slightly surprised.
Grandpa Gu waved to Grandma Gu.
Madam Gu walked up to them and glanced at the chessboard. She saw that there were not many pieces left in front of the two people, but the game on the chessboard was still difficult to determine a winner!
Upon seeing this, Old Madam Gu was even more surprised, and gave Bai Qianmo a deep look.
I originally thought that Qianmo was a good-natured and likable child, and that as long as Seventh Brother liked her, I believed that her character would be fine.
