Chapter 296 A Predestined Marriage

That evening, heavy snow began to fall again in the capital.

Everywhere you look, the snow is white and the city is covered in silver, as if it is about to wash away the luster of this historic city.

"With such heavy snow, you should stay here tonight." The old man glanced towards the door.

Just as Bai Qianmo was about to nod, her phone suddenly rang.

Upon seeing the caller ID, the girl smiled faintly.

Old Bai curled his lip: "Laughing so happily, was it Gu Jueye who called?"

Bai Qianmo knew that the old man still had some reservations about Gu Jueye. Although the situation had eased somewhat, it wasn't something that could be completely changed overnight.

"Grandpa, I'm going out to answer a phone call."

After greeting the old man, Bai Qianmo left the hall and, standing in the swirling snow, pressed the answer button.

"Hello?"

A deep, mellow male voice came from that point: "Where are you?"

Bai Qianmo stretched out her hand, palm up, to catch the falling snowflakes.

“It’s with Grandpa.”

"Yes, it's snowing."

"Yes, it's raining heavily, so I plan to stay here tonight."

After a moment of silence, the man said with slight dissatisfaction, "What about me?"

Bai Qianmo frowned slightly. "You're a grown man, where can't you sleep?"

"You can stay at the research institute, or go back to Jinyu Huating, or if you want, you can go to the Gu family's old house."

The man chuckled softly: "Do you have any spare room in your bed? I'd like to rent it for the night."

Bai Qianmo: "..."

Even though he was standing in the freezing cold, his face looked like it was on fire.

How come she didn't notice before that Gu Jueye was so clingy?

"Sure, if you dare to come, I dare to rent it to you." She didn't believe that Gu Jueye would actually come to the Bai family's old house to find her at this time; he was just joking.

"The Bai family's old residence?"

"uh-huh."

She had barely finished speaking when she faintly heard the sound of a car door closing at the entrance.

Gu Jueye's voice came through the phone immediately afterward: "I'm at the door."

Bai Qianmo's heart skipped a beat. She looked towards the door and saw a tall, handsome figure standing in the porch outside, holding a phone to his ear with his right hand, his deep eyes looking at her with a smile.

"You...how did you get here?"

Gu Jueye strode forward, his long legs crunching through the thick snow as he approached Bai Qianmo.

He stopped in front of her, his face full of affection as he gently brushed the snowflakes from her hair, a playful smile playing on his lips: "Come rent your bed."

Bai Qianmo looked away in embarrassment, inwardly cursing, "He actually came?" She seemed to have dug herself another hole.

"So you were actually outside the door when you made the call?"

"Yes!" The man nodded honestly.

Bai Qianmo lowered her eyes and rubbed her forehead. She decided to change her gambling habit. The business tactics she used had repeatedly failed when applied to Gu Jueye, which made her very frustrated.

"Grandpa is still in the living room, let's go say hello."

Let's go.

Taking the little girl home still required the old man's approval. Gu Jueye took her hand and walked into the living room.

Old Bai was watching TV when he heard footsteps at the door. He raised his wise eyes and looked over.

"It's so late, why did you come here?"

Gu Jueye said in a deep voice, "It's getting colder in the capital tonight, and I was worried that Qianmo would have trouble getting a taxi. I just happened to be passing by here, so I thought I'd pick her up on the way."

Old Bai chuckled softly, his face displaying the knowing expression of someone who had been through it all.

You brat, don't think I don't know what you're up to. Humph, I'm not going to give up on finding a partner for my granddaughter.

Gu Jueye took in the warning in the old man's lowered eyes, smiled and said, "Have you finished the two jars of Luzhou Laojiao I gave you last time? Since you like the taste of this wine, I will bring you another jar next time I come."

Old Master Bai's lips twitched, and he inwardly pounded his chest in frustration. Sure enough, one is bound to be lenient when one eats another's food, and one's hand is bound to break when one takes another's money.

Luzhou Laojiao (a type of Chinese liquor) – he simply couldn't resist its allure.

Seeing that the two of them were starting to secretly compete again, Bai Qianmo coughed lightly in time.

“Grandpa, I have to go to work tomorrow. Jinyu Huating is closer. Since Gu Jueye is here to pick me up, I won’t stay here tonight. I’ll come back to see you in a few days when I’m less busy.”

Old Bai gave a slightly annoyed snort: "Let's go, let's go. This old geezer of mine has nothing to keep me company."

Seeing that the old man was jealous, Bai Qianmo walked to his side and hugged his neck in a coquettish manner: "How could I be? I like being with Grandpa the most."

Old Bai was amused: "Alright, alright, it's getting late, and it's snowing so heavily outside, let's hurry back."

Gu Jueye took Bai Qianmo's backpack and said to Grandpa Bai, "Grandpa Bai, we're leaving now."

Bai Lao nodded in agreement, and as the two were about to leave, he said to Gu Jueye, "The roads are slippery in the snow, drive carefully."

Gu Jueye paused slightly, looked at Old Master Bai, responded, and then pulled Bai Qianmo away from the Bai family's old residence.

Old Bai watched them leave and sighed softly, "A daughter is like a tree that cannot be kept at home. She has only been back for a short time, and she has already been snatched away by someone else."

Aunt Zhang brought a cup of hot tea to Old Bai: "I think Mr. Gu treats Miss Qianmo very well. He is a steady man and so handsome. He is truly a husband who is one in a million. Moreover, I think he and Miss Qianmo look very much like a married couple."

Old Bai chuckled: "A couple's resemblance?"

"Yes, their eyes and eyebrows are very similar. The elders in our area say that couples who look alike are destined to be together for several lifetimes. Because they love each other deeply, they have been entangled for several lifetimes, and their faces will become more and more similar. Once they meet, they will have no eyes for anyone else. This is called... a match made in heaven!"

The smile on Old Bai's face deepened. A preordained marriage? Let's hope so.
