Chapter 407 The Invisible Hand in the Dark

With Tang De's help, Old Master Tang walked up to Bai Qianmo and Gu Jueye, his dim eyes narrowing as he stared at them with a half-smile.

"You've come all this way so late, do you have some precious item you want me to appraise?"

Gu Jueye didn't waste any words and directly stated his purpose.

"Take the item out and let me see it."

Gu Jueye handed the A4 sheet of paper in the folder to Old Tang.

Old Tang squinted at it for a moment, then turned around and slowly walked to his desk. He turned on the professional desk lamp, picked up a magnifying glass, and carefully examined it under the light.

Gu Jueye and Bai Qianmo remained silent and walked over to Old Tang to await the result.

About seven or eight minutes later, Old Tang put away his magnifying glass and looked at Gu Jueye with his deep gaze.

Why are you investigating the text on this parchment scroll?

"Do you recognize these characters?"

Old Tang chuckled, took off his reading glasses, sat down in the mahogany chair behind him, stretched out his wrinkled hands, picked up the teacup on the table, and slowly sipped his tea.

Under the watchful eyes of Gu Jueye and Bai Qianmo, the old man fiddled with the tea lid, the quiet room filled with the crisp sound of porcelain clinking.

After pondering for a while, Old Tang shook his head: "To my shame, I have never made a mistake in appraising ancient and modern treasures in my life, but today I have failed because of this parchment scroll. However, I am certain of one thing: the script does not belong to any ancient script. It may be a coded language used by a large family, and only members of the family can understand its meaning."

"Based on the analysis of the remaining third of the pattern, it should be about celestial phenomena, but I can't guarantee what the specific content is."

Bai Qianmo thought of the letter SU she recognized in the text. Back in Y country, she once found a bronze plaque in her grandfather's study with the letter SU engraved on it. Her grandfather said that the letter was equivalent to "宿" (su). When she asked a few more questions, her grandfather refused to say any more.

Could this writing have some connection to the ancient family?

Old Tang was silent for a while, then suddenly spoke again.

"However... I can introduce you to someone who might be able to read these words."

Gu Jueye asked curiously, "Who is that person you're talking about?"

Old Tang chuckled twice: "You probably haven't heard of this person. He's a freak. Few people in the archaeology circle have heard of him. Take some time these next couple of days and I'll take you to meet him. However, I can't guarantee whether he'll agree to meet you."

Leaving the Tang residence

Bai Qianmo walked silently, and Gu Jueye reached out and ruffled her long hair.

"What are you thinking about?"

Bai Qianmo stopped in her tracks, turned around, and looked at the handsome man in front of her under the streetlights.

"Have you felt that there seems to be a force pulling us in a certain direction?"

Gu Jueye's eyes were calm, and he spoke in a deep, resonant voice: "For example?"

Bai Qianmo stretched out her hand, and Gu Jueye naturally reached out and took her cold hand in his large palm, holding it tightly.

"Shortly after the card from the Yucheng Hotel appeared, this parchment scroll was unearthed from the ancient tomb. Judging from the patterns, there seems to be some connection between them. I always feel that there is an invisible hand pointing us somewhere."

Gu Jueye fell silent, but his grip on Bai Qianmo's hand tightened involuntarily.

"Therefore, we need to figure out the writing on the parchment scrolls as soon as possible."

Early the next morning

Bai Qianmo went to No. 1 Middle School. As winter vacation approached, the students at the school were unusually active.

Before nine o'clock

Rongyi drove the car to the school gate, where many cars were already parked.

After circling the school gate for a while, we finally stopped at an open-air parking lot about fifty meters away from the school.

"Miss Bai, do you think my outfit is alright today?" Rong Yi straightened his suit collar, looking somewhat nervous.

Bai Qianmo carried her schoolbag, wore the school uniform of No. 1 Middle School, and casually tied her long hair into a ponytail. She looked clean and capable, and even two years younger than usual.

She glanced at Rong Yi with a faint look. Rong Yi was dressed in a sharp black suit with a charcoal gray wool coat on top, and he had applied hair gel to his hair. He looked much more energetic than usual.

"very nice."

Upon receiving Bai Qianmo's affirmation, Rong Yi breathed a sigh of relief: "That's good. This is my first time attending a parent-teacher conference, and I was afraid of embarrassing you."

Bai Qianmo raised an eyebrow: "Don't you have children?"

Rong Yi chuckled twice: "I don't even have a wife yet, so how could I have children?"

Hearing this, Bai Qianmo was quite surprised. The Gu family members were mostly carefully selected from the military, many of whom were special forces soldiers. In addition, Rong Yi had regular features and, although he was already forty years old, he looked like he was only in his thirties. He didn't look like someone who couldn't find a wife at all.

Rong Yi saw through Bai Qianmo's thoughts and smiled sheepishly: "My previous job was not very stable and not suitable for solving personal problems. I was only transferred back to the capital in the last two years. I have some relatives and friends who can introduce me to potential partners, but I haven't met the right person yet."

Bai Qianmo didn't say much, after all, it was a matter of personal privacy.

Let's go.

"good!"

After parking the car, Bai Qianmo and Rong Yi got out and walked to school.
