Chapter 620

Early the next morning

Bai Qianmo was still fast asleep when she vaguely heard a commotion coming from the courtyard.

"Put my things in this room, and change all the bedding to new ones. Also, this room hasn't been lived in for a long time, so make sure it's thoroughly cleaned, understand?"

Upon hearing this sarcastic voice, Bai Qianmo suddenly opened her eyes.

"I don't like the potted plants in this room. I prefer to keep goldfish. Get me a fish tank today. Also, prepare a few outfits for me in the wardrobe, something suitable for me, something that looks classy and reflects my taste. Have you noted them all down?"

Aunt Zhao, with a cold face, followed silently behind Zhang Cuiyan.

Last night I received a call from my wife, informing me that Mrs. Zhang was hospitalized and that my husband was unwell and needed someone to take care of him.

She had been taking care of Old Master Bai in the Bai family for over ten years, and in her heart, she had long regarded Old Master Bai as family.

So last night I packed my bags and rushed to catch the earliest bus back, but I didn't even see the old man. Instead, I was inexplicably called to the backyard by this mother and daughter.

"Mrs. Zhang, did you get permission from Old Master Bai to stay at the Bai family home?"

Aunt Zhao tried her best to ask in a gentle tone.

Zhang Cuiyan was looking around the room when she heard Aunt Zhao's words and felt that she was being looked down upon, so she immediately frowned.

"What do you mean by that? Are you implying that we shamelessly moved in on our own? Let me tell you, your grandfather warmly invited my daughter and me to stay here. We didn't insist on moving in ourselves, understand?"

Aunt Zhao didn't show any emotion on the surface, but she was very suspicious in her heart.

Based on her years of understanding of Mr. Bai, the old man hated arrogant people the most, so how could he possibly invite them to live in his home when they were not related to him?

Moreover, this courtyard is Miss Qianmo's residence. Old Master Bai dotes on Miss Qianmo so much that he would never let just anyone come and stay here.

Aunt Zhao remained silent, thinking to herself that she should call the eldest wife first.

Bai Xinrou seemed to see through her thoughts and snorted coldly.

“Aunt Zhao, right? My mother and I live here with Grandpa Bai’s permission. He personally told me to choose any place to live. I think this courtyard is quiet and the environment is nice, so I decided to move here. You are just a maid for the Bai family. You only need to do what the residents tell you. It’s not your place to meddle in other things.”

“Miss Bai, I don’t doubt you, but this is Miss Qianmo’s residence. I wonder if Miss Qianmo knows that you moved here?”

Aunt Zhao had been by Xu Hualan's side for a long time and was very shrewd and tactful in her dealings with people. Her words sounded polite, but they carried a weight that could not be underestimated.

"Hehe, Grandpa Bai personally promised that I can choose any room within the Bai family's premises. Isn't Bai Qianmo's courtyard within the Bai family's premises?"

Aunt Zhao frowned. How could Old Bai possibly agree to such a promise?

"Aunt Zhao, you're an elder of the Bai family, can't you understand what I'm saying? Do you want me to take you to see Grandpa Bai before you'll believe me?"

"No need, I was invited by the First Madam to help, let's go see the First Madam first."

Zhang Cuiyan was immediately enraged. She rushed up the mountain and slapped Aunt Zhao hard across the face.

This slap caught Aunt Zhao completely off guard; she was caught off guard and took the slap squarely.

I got slapped.

"So, Old Master Bai's words don't carry any weight with you? In the end, who decides this, the old man or your first wife?"

Aunt Zhao was stunned by the beating. She covered her burning cheeks, her eyes filled with tears of grievance.

She was just there to help, so why was she slapped by someone so insignificant?

"What's all the noise about so early in the morning?"

Upon hearing the sound, Aunt Zhao immediately turned around to look at the person approaching.

The old man walked over with a gloomy face, his hands behind his back, taking measured steps, and exuding a murderous aura.

"Mr. Bai, you've come at the perfect time. Mrs. Zhang and Miss Bai said you let them stay in Miss Qianmo's courtyard, is that right?"

Aunt Zhao never believed that Old Master Bai would make such an arrangement.

Therefore, it is highly likely that Zhang Cuiyan and Bai Xinrou are lying.

Unexpectedly, Elder Bai only glanced at her coldly and walked straight to Bai Xinrou's side.

"Xinrou, what just happened?"

"Grandpa Bai, I'm so sorry to disturb your rest. It's like this, my mother has bronchitis, which is prone to flare-ups in winter. So when she was choosing a room, she took a liking to this courtyard house in Qianmo. Originally, my mother's idea was that since she raised Qianmo herself, it would be best if she could live with Qianmo. But when we just told Aunt Zhao about our idea, she suspected that we were lying."

Upon hearing Bai Xinrou's words, Old Bai frowned deeply.

He looked at Aunt Zhao with displeasure.

"Aunt Zhao, didn't you resign? Who told you to come back?"

Aunt Zhao was stunned by Old Bai's indifferent attitude.

She served Old Master Bai for many years, but he never treated her as a nanny.

Therefore, Old Master Bai had never spoken to her in such a cold tone before.

Is this person in front of me really Old Bai?

“Old Bai, we have another empty courtyard. The environment there is no worse than Miss Qianmo’s courtyard. Moreover, Miss Qianmo prefers quiet. If we arrange for two people to live here all at once, I’m afraid she will feel uncomfortable.”

"Hmph, if she's not comfortable, she can move out. Anyway, that girl always lived outside before. If she's not home, am I supposed to leave the yard empty for her? What kind of logic is that? Who made that rule?"
