Chapter 212 Not Yet Lovers

It was already one in the morning when he struggled downstairs. Suddenly, the living room door made a sound, and then a dark figure walked in from outside.

The room was dark, but the girl's slender figure could be vaguely seen through the light coming from the floor-to-ceiling windows.

"Smack!"

The girl turned on the lights inside the room, and the blinding light instantly assaulted the senses.

His pupils stung slightly, and he instinctively closed his eyes.

The girl also noticed him at the bottom of the stairs and clearly showed a surprised expression.

"you……"

He was in so much pain that he couldn't straighten up. For some reason, when he knew she was back, a stubborn streak made him forcefully stand up, which resulted in an even more intense wave of pain.

The girl's surprise quickly faded, and she stared at him with bright eyes for a while.

Are you feeling unwell?

He kept his lips tightly pressed together, trying his best to endure the discomfort in his body, and cold sweat kept pouring from his forehead.

Although he couldn't see his own face, he roughly knew that his face must have been frighteningly pale at the time.

Do you have any stomach medicine?

This was the first time he had spoken up on his own initiative. Perhaps being sick in a foreign land makes one more vulnerable, or perhaps, in his time of pain, having another person in the quiet and deserted room would make him feel more at ease.

He had a urge to lean against it for warmth.

She hurriedly put her schoolbag on the sofa, then went into the house. A little while later, she came running out of the room with a box of stomach medicine in her hand.

“I have some. Sit down and rest, I’ll get you some water.”

The girl's face was expressionless. Her soft, black hair was loosely tied into a bun, with a few stray strands hanging loosely over her slender neck and shoulders. As she bent over slightly to get water, the strands of hair playfully slipped into her shoulder.

His gaze followed her, and he found that the stomach pain wasn't so unbearable anymore.

"It's ready to eat!"

Gu Jueye snapped out of his thoughts and looked up at the girl sitting opposite him.

The thought of her being back by his side felt wonderful. This time, he wouldn't let her leave so easily again.

"Braised beef?"

"Well, I ordered this dish because you like it. I wonder how good this restaurant is."

Gu Jueye picked up his chopsticks and tasted a piece.

"It's not as good as yours."

Bai Qianmo raised her eyebrows, feeling a little proud of being praised: "The key to making good braised beef lies in the word 'braised'."

Gu Jueye lowered his head and ate, asking seemingly casually, "Who taught you this dish?"

Bai Qianmo's expression changed slightly, and she remained silent for a moment: "He is a very good friend of mine, you could also say he's like an older brother to me."

Gu Jueye's hand gripping the chopsticks tightened suddenly, and his well-defined fingers turned slightly bluish.

His lowered eyes were as deep as the sea, and a cold light flashed quickly from his deep pupils.

"Brother?" After a long silence, he asked, feigning nonchalance.

Bai Qianmo did not notice the change in Gu Jueye's expression: "Yes, he has taken care of me since I was a child. Although we are not related by blood, I have always regarded him as my own brother."

Upon hearing Bai Qianmo's last sentence, Gu Jueye looked suspicious.

Who exactly is this person?

Not only did they erase the little girl's memories of those years, but they also seemed to want to replace everything that happened between them?

Xia Wei was half asleep when she heard a soft knock on the door.

I rolled over in bed, pulled the covers over my head, and tried to go back to sleep. The knocking stopped for a moment, but then the other person kept knocking persistently.

Xia Wei finally came to her senses and immediately got out of bed to open the door.

The door opened, and Butler Guo smiled at her with a憨态可掬 (simple and honest) expression.

"Miss Xia, my husband is back. Please come to the study."

Xia Wei's heart skipped a beat. She's back?

How could it be so fast...?

Wasn't he on a business trip out of town?

After a moment of stunned silence, Xia Wei came to her senses.

"Okay, I'll go see Mr. Guo right away."

Originally, after she voluntarily resigned, Butler Guo asked her to personally go to Mr. Guo to explain the situation.

Xia Wei sighed. She really didn't want to see Guo Qiheng alone. That man's aura was too strong, and she would feel very nervous every time she saw him.

Coincidentally, Guo Qiheng has been away on a business trip for the past few days and has not returned home.

Xia Wei felt lucky to have stayed here for a few more days.

It looks like I'm finally going to have to pack my bags and leave.

With a nervous heart, Xia Wei took out a cream-colored knitted sweater from the closet and put it over her pajamas before slowly moving toward Guo Qiheng's study.

As I approached the door, it was ajar, and a faint, cold light shone through.

Taking a breath, Xia Wei raised her hand and knocked on the door.

"Come in!" came a deep, resonant male voice from inside.

Xia Wei gently pushed open the door and went inside.

My gaze first fell on the desk, but I didn't see anyone there.

He glanced around but couldn't see Guo Qiheng anywhere.

She walked into the room, wondering what was going on, and as she reached her desk, a tall figure slowly walked over from the balcony.

"Miss Xia."

Xia Wei's heart tightened suddenly, and she turned to look at the man walking towards her.

Guo Qiheng looked like he had just taken a shower, wearing a smoky gray bathrobe, his short hair hanging down wetly, giving the usually meticulous man a more approachable air.

Every time he puts on his glasses, his eyes look even more profound.

"Mr. Guo... you were looking for me."

Xia Wei's heart was pounding. Even though the man didn't say anything, the intense aura of pressure emanating from him enveloped her as he walked up to her.

Guo Qiheng walked up to Xia Wei, his deep, cold gaze quickly sweeping over her before he said expressionlessly, "Sit down."

"Thank you!" Xia Wei placed her hands in front of her, nervously clenching them together, as she sat down in the chair in front of the desk.

She thought Guo Qiheng would sit in his office chair and talk to her, but to her surprise, as soon as she sat down, he moved his body in front of her and leaned his tall body against the mahogany desk.

She sat with her knees turned inward, while he stood between the chair and the desk, instantly bringing their bodies closer together.

Xia Wei felt like the air around her was suffocating. She pushed off with her heels and moved her chair around.

Guo Qiheng took in Xia Wei's small hand gesture, and his thin, taut lips curled up almost imperceptibly: "I heard from Uncle Guo that you're planning to resign?"
