After hanging up the phone, Bai Qianmo quickly washed up and went downstairs.
Gu Jueye was standing in front of the huge bookshelf, holding a book in his hands and looking at it intently.
Hearing footsteps, Gu Jueye slowly raised his eyes and looked at Bai Qianmo.
"Are you hungry?" He glanced at the time.
"I'll go make lunch."
Bai Qianmo walked over and glanced at the book in Gu Jueye's hand. It was a book about astronomy.
"I'm not in a hurry to cook. I'm not very hungry yet. The snow has stopped, and I want to go for a walk."
"Okay, I'll go with you." Gu Jueye put the book on the desk, walked over and took her hand.
The two went outside. Bai Qianmo stood in the vast snowfield, looked up and squinted at the sky. It was still a cloudy day, and the whole mountain was covered with thick snow. The winding mountain road they had come up from was also hidden from view.
Bai Qianmo, wearing a pair of snow boots, stepped into the snow, looked down at the footprints she had made, and felt exceptionally peaceful.
“Every time I come here, I feel like I’m isolated from the world.”
"Do you like it here?"
Bai Qianmo nodded: "Compared to the hustle and bustle of big cities, I prefer places with few people like this. When I was a child, I lived in the countryside, where the scenery was beautiful. I often went to the back mountain to help my family chop firewood. There I met someone who also loved reading. In addition to the basic living space, the two-story house was almost entirely filled with bookshelves, like a small library."
Gu Jueye listened attentively as the little girl recounted her past.
Bai Qianmo gave Gu Jueye a deep look: "Do you want to hear about my past?"
Gu Jueye stopped and turned to face Bai Qianmo: "I'm ready to hear it anytime you want to."
Bai Qianmo's eyes curved into a smile. She understood what this man meant; he had always respected her.
A few days ago, a flood of negative news about her came out, and even her adoptive mother came forward to admit that she had run off with another man. But Gu Jueye never asked a single question, or even suspected anything.
His trust in her made her feel somewhat burdened, unsure how to repay it.
So after thinking it over, she felt it necessary to explain things to him face to face.
“When I was little, I didn’t like playing with other kids my age. Instead, I would often go to the back of the mountain to find him. He was a very knowledgeable person, much more knowledgeable than my teachers. Only when I went to him could I find a sense of camaraderie. Without him, I wouldn’t be who I am today. I did leave with him back then. In my heart, he was like my older brother, a very important person to me.”
Gu Jueye remained silent for a long time, his gaze deep and unfathomable: "He shouldn't be an ordinary person, so why would he appear in a small mountain village?"
Bai Qianmo's gaze drifted towards the distant snow-capped mountains: "Back then, I also asked him with the same suspicion. He casually said that he was hiding from his enemies. He appeared when I was ten years old. During those four years, he wasn't on the mountain every day. I lived at the foot of the mountain. If I could see a light on the mountain at night, it meant he had returned. When I went to find him the next day, he would definitely be home. If there was no light at night, it meant he had gone on a long trip. The longest he didn't return was more than three months. But whenever he came back, he would bring me a gift."
Thinking of something, Bai Qianmo smiled and said, "When I was 14, I had already completed my university studies under his guidance. Until one day, he said that I needed to go out and see the world, and asked me to leave that small mountain village to face the challenges outside. I longed for it, and I thought that if he left and never came back, I would have nothing to miss about the place where I had lived for more than ten years. At that time, I realized that in my heart, he was my only family. So at that time, I readily agreed to leave with him."
After saying that, Bai Qianmo turned her gaze back to the man in front of her.
"Would you care about my past?"
Because he gave her enough trust, there are some things she needs to answer truthfully.
After all, they are boyfriend and girlfriend, and he has the right to know about some things that happened in the past.
Gu Jueye sighed softly and reached out to pull her into his arms: "What I care about is why I couldn't have met you sooner."
Instead, another man entered your world.
Bai Qianmo put one hand into her cotton-padded coat pocket and pulled something out. She took a step back, reached out and grasped Gu Jueye's hand, then opened her palm, revealing a rose gold bracelet.
"This is a prize I won a few days ago when I participated in a variety show. It's not anything expensive, but it looks simple and elegant. Most importantly, it's a couple's item, so I thought I'd give it to you."
Bai Qianmo put the bracelet on Gu Jueye's wrist, then lifted her sleeve, revealing an identical bracelet on her slender, delicate wrist, only a size smaller.
"Do you like it?" Bai Qianmo raised her eyes to look at the man in front of her.
Gu Jueye's eyes were full of delight: "A ring would be even better."
"Shouldn't rings be given by men to women?"
Gu Jueye raised an eyebrow: "So, you want me to give it to you?"
Bai Qianmo: "..."
So, she fell for Mr. Gu's tricks again.
Seeing Bai Qianmo remain silent, Gu Jueye's smile deepened.
"I really like this gift." It was given to me by a little girl, so how could I not like it?
