It turns out that when a man marries the girl he loves, it really feels like he's won a battle.
Look how spirited and energetic the boy she remembers is now.
The girl he held in his arms would become his whole world, his wife, and the mother of his children.
How wonderful!
The motorcade slowly set off again; they had to circle around Kyoto before finally heading to the city's best wedding hall.
Fang Rou followed the convoy for as long as it traveled in the warm winter sun. Everyone knew she was with the convoy, including Grandpa Duan, but everyone deliberately turned a blind eye.
It was almost 11 a.m. when the wedding car slowly entered the hall.
The wedding was a grand affair, and those in the hall were either high-ranking officials from the capital or heads and young masters of various powerful families.
Of the original ten great families, the Jiang family is now missing, but no one bothers to mention it.
According to their seats, everyone took their seats one after another, while Shen Niannian went to her room to change into her wedding dress.
Their makeup team is one of the top teams in Kyoto. They accompanied the team the whole time, and everyone was very capable. Everything was going smoothly.
Only Duan Ye, Luo An, and a few others were searching for someone in the auditorium.
The information Duan Ye received indicated that Jiang Jingchuan had sent a man named Jiang Zifan, and if nothing unexpected happened, this man's purpose in coming today was to annoy them.
Fang Rou sat down at the very end of the auditorium. She was completely covered up, wearing a hat and a mask, so almost no one could recognize her.
The auditorium was bustling with people, who were exchanging pleasantries while holding wine glasses.
A short while later, a waiter in a tuxedo brought a glass of red wine to Fang Rou.
The waiters adhered to the principle that "the customer is God" and made sure no one present was missed.
"Miss, have a glass of celebratory wine. Mrs. Duan personally selected it. I heard it was flown in from the Persian Empire and tastes very good."
Fang Rou's hands trembled slightly, but she still accepted the glass: "Thank you."
The waiter smiled and said, "You're welcome, please share in the joy."
Soon, the emcee came out and, after a long string of pleasantries, got to the main event: "Please welcome our bride and groom with a round of applause!"
A round of enthusiastic applause erupted from the audience, but Fang Rou simply lowered the brim of her hat.
At the end of the hall, Duan Ze, dressed in a white suit, stood beside Shen Niannian, who was wearing a wedding dress. As soon as they appeared, everyone was amazed by their perfect match.
Fang Rou only raised her head when they walked hand in hand towards the stage under the emcee's guidance.
Duan Ze was carefully adjusting Shen Niannian's train wedding dress. At this moment, Duan Ze's eyes were truly filled with Shen Niannian.
He knew there would be troublemakers today, but it didn't matter; the wedding would definitely end perfectly.
Fang Rou watched as the emcee guided her step by step.
"Groom, do you take this woman beside you to be your wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part?"
Duan Ze turned his head to look at Shen Niannian, his eyes filled with her shy and expectant expression. He felt a warmth in his heart, took her hand, and said in front of everyone, "I do."
"Bride, do you take this man to be your husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part?"
Shen Niannian's heart was pounding. Looking into Duan Ze's focused eyes, she nodded gently and said, "I do."
"Now, please let the bride and groom exchange rings."
So Duan Ze knelt down on one knee, reverently kissed the back of his wife's hand, and then put the wedding ring on her ring finger.
With tears in her eyes, Shen Niannian also put a wedding ring on Duan Ze's finger.
"Now, Mr. Duan, you may kiss your bride in front of everyone."
Then, enthusiastic and prolonged applause rang in his ears. Duan Ze cupped Shen Niannian's face in his hands. Her lips looked incredibly fresh and delicious, as if they had been smeared with something. He smiled, lowered his head, and gently kissed his wife.
Unbeknownst to anyone, Duan Ye, along with Luo An, Xiao Wu, and John, were each holding one person down on the other side of the auditorium. In front of them, the brothers under their grandfather had built a wall to block everyone's view of their side.
Jiang Zifan was pinned down by Duan Ye. When he tried to cry out, Duan Ye slapped him for no reason and yelled, "Behave yourself!"
Jiang Zifan was utterly speechless with despair.
He couldn't understand how Duan Ye had found him. He had clearly put on makeup! He had even changed his name! How did he end up being held here?
Everyone stood up, petals fluttered down from the sky, cheerful music filled the hall, and the newlyweds kissed passionately.
On the big screen, their happy moments were shown in turn.
Wedding photos are displayed almost everywhere.
Fang Rou finally took off her hat and drank the wine in her glass in one gulp.
The wine had a strong flavor, but the waiter said it tasted sweet. Sweet? Maybe, she couldn't taste it.
She then took out her phone and took a selfie amidst the cheers of the crowd. She smiled and gave a peace sign to the camera, but behind the photo was her lover's wedding.
MC: Where's the applause?!
Fang Rou put away her phone and joined all the guests in clapping.
But her eyes involuntarily reddened.
