Kyoto was covered in heavy snow for more than two months, and the students couldn't go home, so they stayed in Kyoto until the start of the new semester.
Because most of them were poor students with little money, even on snowy days, they would find work to do. Some students pulled rickshaws, while others worked at newspaper offices or construction sites.
Duan Jiancheng worked on the construction site because the site provided meals and he earned ten silver dollars a month.
It was Duan Jiancheng's last day of work. The boss had just paid them their wages when Liu Enrang rushed over: "Jiancheng, Jiancheng, something's happened!"
Duan Jiancheng's heart skipped a beat: "What happened?"
Liu Enrang ran to Duan Jiancheng's side, quite out of breath: "It's the Chen family, something happened to the Chen family!"
The Chen family? Chen Fan?
Duan Jiancheng's heart skipped a beat, and before Liu Enrang could catch up, he ran out.
When they arrived at the Chen family's house one after the other, they found that the house had already been surrounded by people.
The road was packed with onlookers, making it impossible to pass.
Duan Jiancheng and Liu Enrang struggled to squeeze forward.
"This is the Chen family? All six members of the family died tragically."
"Who's that hanging by the door...?"
"Miss Chen, Chen Fan..."
Duan Jiancheng and Liu Enrang finally squeezed to the front, and they immediately saw Chen Fan hanging from the roof beam with his neck hanging down. The two men's blood froze instantly.
The surrounding chatter continued.

Tears welled up in Liu Enrang's eyes. He hugged Duan Jiancheng and backed away, but he was still worried that they wouldn't be able to leave today.
And so, Duan Jiancheng and Liu Enrang were both beaten, with countless batons falling on their bodies, but the pain they felt was nothing compared to the pain they felt when they saw Chen Fan being hung at the door.
Duan Jiancheng was filled with panic. He thought, the Chen family is gone, Chen Fan is gone, his classmate is gone, but Chen Fan and his elder brother have not even met.
"Get out of here! All of you get out of here!"
Who is speaking? Duan Jiancheng's vision was blurred by the flowing blood.
He strained to look up and saw a girl in a pretty princess dress running off the car.
Zhang Shufen's group quickly surrounded the scene. The first thing she saw was her close friend hanging from the rafters of the Chen family's house. Even with her exquisite makeup, everyone could see that her face turned deathly pale instantly.
The moment Zhang Shufen took a step, her legs went weak and she fell to the ground.
"Miss!" The people around her were very worried and wanted to help her, but Zhang Shufen pushed them away.
She got up from the ground and stumbled towards Chen Fan.
She didn't understand. Everything was fine yesterday. They were even eating hot pot together. And tomorrow is the first day of school. Why did things turn out like this?
She ran over, grabbed Chen Fan's legs, and tried with all her might to put her down: "Fanfan, don't be afraid, I'm here, I'm here..."
Just when she couldn't lift him down no matter how hard she tried, another pair of hands grabbed Chen Fan's feet. She looked up and saw Duan Jiancheng, and then Liu Enrang arrived. The three of them worked together and finally managed to lift Chen Fan down.
"Fanfan, open your eyes and look at me, Chen Fan! Chen Fan!" Zhang Shufen cried out hoarsely, but Chen Fan would never open her eyes again.
"Who did it? Who did it?! I'm going to kill him! Kill him!" Zhang Shufen completely broke down emotionally.
Duan Jiancheng felt a lump in his throat as he watched. He wanted to offer her some advice, but he knew he wasn't much better off than her.
Ultimately, Zhang Shufen fainted, and Duan Jiancheng and Liu Enrang were also taken to the hospital.
In order to find out the cause of Chen Fan's death, the group joined forces and found one of the murderers involved in the massacre of the Chen family.
In the closed room, Zhang Shufen held a gun to the man's head.
"Tell me, who ordered you?"
Duan Jiancheng stood behind the door with a gloomy expression, while Liu Enrang kept watch outside.
Bai Jin smiled and said, "Miss Zhang, you don't need to scare me. No one instructed me to do this. You can kill me if you want. Dying at Miss Zhang's hands would be a fitting end."
Zhang Shufen was furious; her hand holding the gun was trembling, and her eyes were bloodshot.
It was at this moment that Duan Jiancheng took the gun from her hand: "I'll do it."
Zhang Shufen looked at him with helpless, bewildered eyes: "Jiancheng, Fanfan is gone..."
Duan Jiancheng could only hold her for the time being, his throat filled with bitterness, but he had to force himself to swallow it down: "I know, it's okay, it will be alright."
He was not good with words and could only comfort her with the most clumsy language.
Zhang Shufen calmed herself down and turned her head away for the time being.
Bai Jin was still laughing: "Who is that Miss Chen to you? You dared to kidnap me for her sake? Do you know? When we broke in, they were having lunch. She's ridiculous. Even at a time like this, she's still protecting her family. Originally, because she's pretty, if she had just said a few nice words and softened her stance, she might have been able to live. Unfortunately, she just killed herself by running into a brick wall. What can we do now?"
