Chapter 28

Chapter 28

Does the soul exist?

The answer is "of course".

A dead body, driven by a soul that is unwilling to leave the world.

Burrows is dead, but he's still on the move.

Without "life" connecting the soul and the body, the soul struggles to control the body that can no longer feel any pain, just like controlling a puddle of mud.

He doesn't care whether it is the soles of his feet or the insteps of his feet that touch the ground when he walks, and he doesn't care whether it is his chest or his back that moves forward when he moves forward.

Bross just kept moving in one direction, using whatever means he could.

Miel pressed his back against Xulola's chest, making way for Bros.

Out of fear of the unknown, he did not attack Bross, allowing this elf, who had become incomprehensibly crazy, to stumble into the study with strange steps.

"Mifel... Mifel..." Bross repeated these three syllables, trying to control his hands to touch somewhere on the bookshelf, but he couldn't control it properly. In the end, he chose to just hit it with his forehead.

After a "bang", there was a sound of metal friction.

Along with the noise, the floor of the study flipped up, the carpet slid down, and a lot of dust was raised.

Beneath the floor, a long staircase leads to unknown darkness.

There is another basement hidden under the study!

"Miffel, wait for me...Miffel..." Bross continued to repeat these three syllables, came to the stairs, and rolled down directly. His body collided with the stairs, walls, and ground in turn, making a series of dull sounds.

Miel walked quickly towards the stairs leading to the basement, chanting the spell of "light" as he walked, and turned his family ring into a bright lamp.

Cthulora followed closely behind, causing more balls of light to appear beside Miel, leaving him no chance to be swallowed by the darkness.

Cthulion expressed his strong disapproval of his actions: "You know what? I really don't like my tentacles doing unnecessary things behind my back. Miel is my agent, and I should protect him, but it should be the minimum protection, not just being his nanny."

To this, Csulola responded: "What I want to do is my business, and I don't need another me to teach me."

His words made Miel feel relieved, but at the same time, his mood became a little complicated.

Miel was afraid that Lola would be controlled by Leon, and even more afraid that Lola would be assimilated by Leon.

The appearance of Leon made him deeply realize that he liked Lola, not Cthulhu, and certainly not Leon.

He only liked Lola.

Yes, I just love this tentacle of the great Cthulhu.

Lola might not be as powerful as Leon, but just her presence by his side made him feel very safe.

And Lyon will only bring him pressure.

The ball of light floated forward, illuminating the way down.

This basement hidden under the study was deeper and colder than the one Miel knew, like entering an ice cellar.

At the end of the stairs, Bross was crawling on the ground using his hands and knees.

"Miffel...my Miffel...at least, at least say one last word to me..."

Miel frowned, not understanding why he insisted on resurrecting Mifeel even though he was already dead?

If Bross was willing to betray Miffel physically in order to recall Miffel's soul back to the world, it was out of his selfishness and his obsessive possessiveness of Miffel.

So, now that he is dead, and no matter whether the ritual succeeds or not, he cannot be with Miphiel forever, what is the reason why he still insists on performing the ritual?

Just to hear Mifeier say a word?

Bross, has he really gone crazy to this extent?

"Won't you stop it?" Csulola asked Miel.

"I'm curious," Miel responded calmly. "I'm curious if a soul forced to remain in the world can harness the immense magical power contained within a corpse."

"I'm curious, does the magic of 'Soul Summoning' really exist on this continent?"

"And..." He paused before continuing, "If he really summoned Miphiel—my mother's soul—back to the world, I want to ask her a question. I want to know if she would blame me for killing her."

"What do you mean?" asked Czulola.

The images and sounds that Miel extracted from Bross's brain through "memory extraction" can only be seen and heard by him.

He didn't know how to convey this information directly to Lola, so he could only relay it based on his own understanding:

"Bros's memory tells me that I once died, died under the snow, and my mother saved me in some way, but the price was her death."

Is this the truth? Miel isn't sure.

At least Bross truly believed that he had killed Miphiel.

Miel did not avoid Bross when he was talking to Cthulola.

But it was as if Bross couldn't hear him, or maybe he heard it but had no time to pay attention.

He didn't even care that it was Miel who caused his death. He just wanted to do what he had dreamed of doing before completely losing control of his body - to summon the soul of his love, Miel, back to the world and resurrect her in another person's body.

A light came on in the cold basement.

The fluorescent blue light has no temperature.

Miel's feet stepped on the basement floor and he almost slipped because what supported his feet was not the wooden floor or the plush carpet, but a thick layer of ice.

The basement floor was covered with a layer of ice, and the air was filled with a chill.

And in the middle of this ice cellar-like space, there is a coffin made entirely of ice.

Bross used his body to break open the ice cover of the coffin, revealing the body lying flat inside.

The body of an elf girl under 20 years old, with pure silver-white hair - the same as what Miel saw in Bross's memory.

Her appearance is a combination of Bros and Miphiel.

But Miel, who had seen Bros's memories, knew that she was not the daughter of Bros and Mife, but was created by Bros using forbidden magic.

This magic also consumed a lot of Bross's magic power and vitality.

Bross lay on the coffin in a twisted posture, his fingers twitching as he touched the girl's cheek.

"No need to hesitate any further..."

"Miffel, I will revive you now..."

"Miffel, open your eyes and look at me...my dear Miffel..."

Bross chanted an ancient and mysterious spell in his broken voice.

A dazzling magic circle lit up on the ground in the basement.

It did not appear out of thin air, but was already there, beneath the ice, waiting to be awakened by the spell.

Miel instinctively stepped back, trying to get out of the range of the magic circle as quickly as possible, but because he retreated too quickly, he almost slipped again.

This time, Czulola grabbed his arm in time to steady his body, and then the next second she skillfully picked him up horizontally.

Miel was stunned for a moment, then turned his gaze towards him in surprise.

Mr. Lola...is he naturally so gentle?

It seems so.

But before Lyon appeared, there was no comparison and the feeling was not deep.

After Leon appeared, every move of Lola gave Miel a different feeling.

It’s like being fed a bowl of bitter medicine and then stuffed with a piece of candy, and the candy feels especially sweet.

Miel wordlessly reached out, put his arm around Lola's neck, and rested his head on his shoulder in a relaxed manner.

Lola showed a little surprise at his unusual intimacy, but it was just surprise, and she did not resist.

He let Miel hug his neck while explaining: "If I put you on the ground, you will always fall easily, so I decided to hold you."

Miel said "hmm" and did not refute.

Let Lola think that he is so fragile... But to Cthulhu's tentacles, he is indeed so fragile.

The spell of "Soul Summoning" was very long, and Bross chanted it for a full minute.

The entire basement was filled with his magic, and part of it originally belonged to Miel.

Miel waited quietly, Lola held him horizontally and waited with him.

Leon stood near the stairs, his arms folded, his face showing a mixture of disdain and impatience, as if he couldn't wait to leave.

But even with this look on his face, he didn't leave.

Miel didn't know why he stayed here.

A minute later, Bross's spell stopped, and was replaced by those three familiar syllables: "Mifel... Mifel..."

Even though he could no longer control his body, his face still showed obvious anticipation.

In his excitedly distorted vision, and under Miel's nervous gaze, the silver eyelashes of the girl in the coffin trembled slightly.

There was complete silence in the basement, and everyone's attention was focused on the beautiful girl in the coffin, waiting for a miracle to happen.

Then, a miracle really happened - the girl lifted her eyelids and opened her eyes, revealing a pair of sapphire eyes as beautiful as Miel's.

She resembled Miel more than she did Burrows.

She rolled her eyes and looked at Bross, who was still lying on the coffin.

Bross's forehead was swollen and red, turning purple. The three slap marks on his face had not disappeared, and there was even dried blood under his nose.

Anyone who sees such a face will scream in horror.

But the girl remained calm from beginning to end, unusually calm.

Finally, even Bross noticed something was wrong: "...Miffel?"

It was still the same three syllables, but this time, there was no expectation in the tone, only confusion.

The girl stared at him for a while, then sat up from the coffin, raised the corners of her lips, and uttered a voice with a cute tone and a playful tone: "Are you Ina's father?"

"What..." Bross looked at her in disbelief.

Miel was also confused - who is Inai?

The girl raised her hands, pointed her index fingers at her cheeks, and gave Bross an innocent smile with a distorted expression: "You created Ina! So you are Ina's father!"

"No... this is impossible..." Bross shook his head in disbelief, muttering to himself, "Impossible... Impossible..."

Miel also realized that the soul summoning ritual had failed! This soul, no matter who it once belonged to, could never belong to his mother.

Firstly, his mother's name was not Ina, and secondly, although his memories of his mother were very limited, the impression he had of her was definitely not that of a lively person.

"Is that guy over there Inai's brother?" The girl looked at Miel, her smile widening. "He looks older than our father..."

Before she could finish her words, Bross beside her grabbed her neck!

"Impossible! No no no no no! This is not true!" Bross roared loudly and strangled the girl back into the coffin, with the intention of strangling her to death.

"Who are you! Give me back my Mife! Die, die, die! I summoned Mife, not you!"

"Mind shock!" Miel finally couldn't stand idly by and used the magic taught by Leon to attack Bross in the shortest time!

Almost the next second after he launched the attack, Bross's already dead body turned into powder and scattered all over the ground beside the coffin.

The whole person seemed to disappear out of thin air, shattered suddenly.

Miyer couldn't help but be stunned - is the mental shock so strong?

As if she knew his doubts, Lola explained, "It's a soul summoning—his magic power couldn't sustain him in casting this spell, so the magic devoured his vitality and destroyed his body."

"Is that so... Lola, quickly carry me over! Let me see that girl!"

Miel didn't care who the girl's soul originally belonged to. Since she was resurrected, she should be regarded as a life.

Miel wanted to see if she could be saved, and if so...

Lola carried him to the coffin in a few steps.

Lola was tall, and Miel could look down at the entire coffin.

The girl had her eyes wide open with lifeless eyes, two large holes in her throat, and bright red blood soaked through her snow-white clothes.

But just when Miel thought she was beyond saving, the wound on her neck slowly healed and her unfocused eyes regained their luster.

She rolled her eyes and met Miel's gaze. After staring at him expressionlessly for a while, she raised the corners of her lips and smiled.

"Brother, Ina seems to have no father. Ina will follow you from now on, okay?"

Miel: “…”
