on the roadside

on the roadside

The streetlights cast a dim, yellowish glow on the wet ground. Lu Yin stood by the roadside, raindrops dripping from her hair and soaking her thin clothes. She was watching what was happening and checking on the situation. At that moment, she was trying to locate Lan Yi using the system's location tracking.

Suddenly, a familiar figure appeared at the street corner. Lan Yi was holding a long black umbrella, walking hurriedly, raindrops dripping from the edge of the umbrella and splashing at his feet. There was a hint of weariness in his eyes, but you could still see the shadow of two years ago—the gentle boy who would cook porridge for her and stay up all night with her.

Lu Yin strode forward and stopped Lan Yi under the streetlight. "Lan Yi?" Her voice trembled slightly, the rain blurring her vision but unable to conceal the expectation in her eyes.

Lan Yi stopped, tilting his umbrella slightly to block some of the rain. A flicker of surprise crossed his eyes, quickly replaced by indifference. "Lu Yin?" he repeated softly, his voice tinged with detachment, "What are you doing here?"

Lu Yin's heart sank. She remembered the prompt in the system task: "Although Lan Yi's emotional value has increased, he is still affected by the shadow of the car accident in reality and needs to awaken his original intention through practical actions." She took a deep breath and slowly said: "Lan Yi, let's talk."

Lan Yi frowned, took a half step back, and slightly raised the edge of his umbrella to reveal his indifferent face: "There's nothing to talk about. We're over."

Lu Yin's eyes welled up with tears, but she held them back. She remembered the "crisis-sharing mechanism" in the system mission and decided to break through his indifference with action. "Lan Yi, do you remember the car accident two years ago?" Her voice choked with emotion. "That day, you were hit by a car while protecting me. I was lying in the hospital, and I heard the doctor say you might not wake up, I..."

Lan Yi's body trembled slightly, a flicker of hesitation crossing his eyes. He gripped the umbrella handle tighter, raindrops dripping from his fingers and soaking his sleeves. "Lu Yin, that's all in the past," he said softly, his voice tinged with weariness.

Lu Yin took a step forward, her clothes soaked by the rain, but she didn't care. "Lan Yi, I'm back." Her voice was firm yet gentle. "This time, I won't leave you alone again. I know you've had a tough two years, but please believe me, I'll be by your side."

Lu Yin's tears finally welled up. She stepped forward and tightly grasped Lan Yi's hand. "Lan Yi, I will not leave you."

A system notification sounded in Lu Yin's mind: "Emotional value +20%, target Lan Yi's emotional value has increased to 95%." A hint of emotion flashed in Lan Yi's eyes. He slowly reached out and gently wiped away the tears on Lu Yin's face. "Lu Yin, I'm back." His voice carried a hint of determination. "This time, I won't leave you alone again."

The rain gradually subsided, and the glow of the streetlights cast a warm light on the wet ground.

The air after the rain was fresh and moist, as if foreshadowing the new life they were about to embark on. Lu Yin and Lan Yi walked hand in hand toward the future, their shadows elongated under the streetlights, becoming the warmest scene in this rainy night.

Lu Yin and Lan Yi meet again by the roadside on a rainy night, and Lu Yin breaks through Lan Yi's indifference with her actions.
