Chapter 9: Come to Beijing to beg for food.
As soon as Sun Ziyi opened the door, he smelled a foul odor, like a pile of rotten eggs pouring out of the toilet and evenly spreading on the ground.
Overwhelmed by the smell, she couldn't help but vomit, then frowned and turned up her nose to follow the smell throughout the house, and finally locked onto the front of the refrigerator; she reached out and opened the freezer, and a pool of water leaked onto her feet.
"Damn it." It turned out that the freezer of the refrigerator was broken. Sun Ziyi couldn't help but curse, then took a small piece of plastic wrap from the side and stuck it on his nose to start taking things. He looked like a clumsy bandit who tried to disguise himself but failed.
Fortunately, she didn't have much stuff, so only one floor was filled with things, and the other two floors were empty. She sighed, pulled out that floor, and opened the door.
Xu Zecheng was still charging his phone obediently in front of the aunt's counter in the supermarket downstairs.
His battery was really out of power. There was no charging cable in the car, and it was too far to go back to Shunyi. He was thinking about where to drive to and borrow a power bank.
When the battery was charged to 20%, he wanted to leave. As he walked out of the supermarket, he saw a group of people talking. "Why are they arguing again?" "That's how old ladies in Beijing are. They start arguing when they get upset." "No one fought. That little girl definitely couldn't beat the old lady."
Xu Zecheng found it strange; he had never seen people quarreling in Beijing before, so he followed the crowd in. The old woman's sharp voice rushed into his ears. "You outsiders, you have to come to Beijing to beg for food." "Is this how you're getting poor after working? You don't even have a good refrigerator." "That stinky water is flowing into our corridor." "Disgusting!"
Xu Zecheng was at the outermost edge of the crowd and couldn't see the people inside clearly. He only saw that most of the people were frowning. After all, most of the people living here were from other places, including himself.
Being tall and a Tianjin native who loved to watch the crowd, he couldn't help but stand on tiptoe and found Sun Ziyi inside. He quickly pushed through the crowd layer by layer and saw Sun Ziyi facing him with his side profile, facing the old lady head-on, holding a refrigerator drawer in his hand.
"Why aren't you saying anything? Because you're in the wrong, little girl. Not only do you not maintain the neighborhood environment, you even destroy it. Outsiders are really..."
The old lady continued to say nasty things, and rolled her eyes from time to time.
Xu Zecheng frowned and walked behind Sun Ziyi. Just as he was about to put his arm around her shoulders to help her, Sun Ziyi suddenly yelled, "Did I say I won't wipe up the dirty water? Shouldn't I pour it out first before I go up and wipe it up? Old lady, are you done scolding me?!"
Xu Zecheng's hand froze in mid-air, not knowing whether to let go or continue.
The old lady got even more excited, pointing at Sun Ziyi and yelling, "Am I scolding you? I'm teaching you a lesson! You stinky beggar who came to Beijing! You have to accept the beating if you get it."
Sun Ziyi slammed the drawer to the ground, making a loud noise. "Teach me? What qualifications do you have to teach me? We live in the same neighborhood and you're calling me a beggar?"
The old lady reached out her hand fiercely, trying to poke her. "How dare you, a tenant, compare yourself to us landlords?"
Xu Zecheng reached out his hand again, ready to help Sun Ziyi stop him, but Sun Ziyi dodged and even held his aunt's hand. "You finally became a homeowner, so you want to have the word 'homeowner' on your forehead every time you take the subway, right? You finally broke your bankrupt to buy a house, so you want to keep saying 'homeowner' every day, right?"
Xu Zecheng's hand froze in mid-air again. Seeing Sun Ziyi's formation behind him, he didn't dare to breathe.
The old lady yelped, "You bitch!" She tried to reach up, but Sun Ziyi kicked the drawer, shoving it between them. "Bitch? Who started the scene first? Who disturbed public order first? The one who was wasting everyone's time just for a little verbal pleasure is the bitch, right?"
Xu Zecheng was completely stunned. He thought he could be a hero and save the beauty, but he didn't expect Sun Ziyi to handle it so well. He scratched his head with his empty hand, couldn't help but smile, then turned and left.
The old lady was still throwing a tantrum, even reaching out to tear Sun Ziyi's hair. Sun Ziyi refused to let her and tried to fight back. A group of people went up to the fence, and some were filming. It looked like a farce in the crowd.
A horn honked from behind. It was Xu Zecheng driving the low car. He leaned out of the driver's seat and shouted to the crowd, "Make way! I'm going to take my wife home."
Everyone stopped and automatically made way for the car.
Sun Ziyi and the old lady were still holding each other's hair, but they also stopped.
Xu Zecheng got out of the driver's seat and walked in front of Sun Ziyi. He winked at her carefully, then gently took her hair out of the old lady's hands bit by bit and smoothed her hair. He turned to the old lady and said, "Auntie, you are old. If you and my wife were to get angry here, I would definitely send you to the police station."
Sun Ziyi was still in shock. Xu Zecheng held Sun Ziyi's hand that was pulling the old lady's hair and said, "Let's go, my wife."
Sun Ziyi was holding the ice drawer in one hand, and Xu Zecheng was holding the other. His palm was very hot. Xu Zecheng saw the drawer and took it immediately, "Extra ice, give it to me quickly."
The crowd began to whisper again. "This young wife is quite cool." "Where's her husband's driving a McLaren?" "Look how good his husband treats his wife."
Sun Ziyi didn't react. He couldn't just let Xu Zecheng take him away like this. Before getting into the car, Sun Ziyi suddenly shook off Xu Zecheng's hand and whispered to Xu Zecheng, "You don't have to give me an excuse like this."
Seeing Sun Ziyi shake off his hand, someone in the crowd exclaimed "Wow!" Enthusiastic people are like this, sometimes as enthusiastic as the voice-over in a TV drama.
Sun Ziyi turned his head and glanced at the old lady. The old lady still looked arrogant, but now she looked a little uncomfortable.
Sun Ziyi said: What's wrong with me being from another place? What's wrong with me living here? I earned all this with my own hands. How can I be ashamed of it?
Someone in the crowd shouted, "Well said, little girl."
The old lady spat on the spot and cursed, "Stinky outsider."
Someone in the crowd whispered, "Auntie, I have a Beijing license plate."
The old lady pretended not to hear and turned away.
The two of them sat on a bench in the neighborhood. There happened to be a street lamp next to the bench. No one spoke. It was Sun Ziyi who broke the silence. "Excuse me."
Xu Zecheng turned his head to look at her. "I didn't know you were such a good fighter. You've grown up."
Sun Ziyi smiled awkwardly. "If you're out there alone, you'll be bullied to death if you don't have a good temper."
Xu Zecheng suddenly said: It must be very hard to be alone outside.
Sun Ziyi raised her head and met his passionate eyes. She knew Xu Zecheng was about to start to influence her, and her scalp immediately stiffened. Although she was sentimental, she hated heart-to-heart moments the most, so she immediately shook her head and said it was not hard. Then she asked, "What about you? Why haven't you left yet?"
Xu Zecheng held out his hand, his phone and power bank lying flat in his palm. "I spent a lot of time charging it at the supermarket with the auntie."
Sun Ziyi said, "Are you really out of power?"
He showed an incredible expression again and asked, "What else? Sun Ziyi, you don't think I want to go upstairs because I have some dirty thoughts about you, do you?"
Sun Ziyi quickly waved his hands, and said awkwardly, "No, no, otherwise... go up and sit down now."
After all, he had helped him out of trouble, so he couldn't let him go back in the cold. Besides, it was so late, and Xu Zecheng might not go.
Unexpectedly, Xu Zecheng excitedly stood up, holding the ice drawer, and said to Sun Ziyi, "Lead the way."
Sun Ziyi walked slowly toward the door of her apartment complex, thinking about the smelly socks in some corner of her house and the takeout bags on the table she hadn't cleared away. So she lingered, thinking she'd ask him to wait a moment when they got to the door while she went in to clean up. Beside her, Xu Zecheng looked excited, rating the environment of Sun Ziyi's apartment complex as they walked. He even praised the wilted flowers that someone had thrown in the corridor for their good growth.
Sun Ziyi's home was on the ninth floor. After getting out of the elevator, he saw that Sun Ziyi hadn't moved and was still in the elevator. So he turned around and asked him, "We're here, come out."
Xu Zecheng glanced at the house number and said, "I won't go in."
Sun Ziyi was puzzled. Xu Zecheng put the ice drawer in front of the elevator door. His expression was different from usual, and he seemed to be a little tender and affectionate. He held out his hand to block the elevator. The elevator door made a beeping sound, as if it had been open for too long. The two of them stared at each other. After the beeping stopped, he slowly said, "I'm just worried that the aunt will come to bother you again. Please go in quickly. I'll leave after you close the door."
Sun Ziyi felt a little touched. Years of friendship flashed like flint at this moment. She was about to have tears in her eyes after the quarrel. She couldn't help but persuade him again, "Come in, come in and sit down."
Xu Zecheng touched his nose and said, "It's a girl's house, boys can't just go in casually! It will affect your reputation! A single man and a single woman! Although I look like a scumbag, I never go to nightclubs or pick up girls, because I know my limits when it comes to things like this!"
Sun Ziyi was completely moved by Xiao Cheng, her face full of tenderness and delicate emotion. However, the elevator was terribly quiet, and she didn't know what to say for a moment.
The phone suddenly rang, and the two people reached into their pockets as if to help, and finally found that it was Xu Zecheng calling; he picked up the phone with a smile, his eyes still looking at Sun Ziyi.
On the other end of the phone, a gruff voice shouted, "Come on, Cheng, to the old place. Our cards are all ready."
The whole corridor could hear that sentence, the old place card has been opened.
Xu Zecheng's smile froze on his face, and Sun Ziyi's face fell.
Sun Ziyi said goodbye, then opened the door and slammed it shut.
She lay in front of the peephole, watching Xu Zecheng standing there in a daze for a few seconds, then ran over and knocked on the door, saying, "I'm leaving, Yiyi."
She didn't say anything, but looked at Xu Zecheng carefully through the cat's eye, then leaned in front of the cat's eye.
The moment the two people's eyes met through the cat's eye, Sun Ziyi was a little nervous, as if they were face to face and in such close contact.
He left quickly and got into the elevator. The elevator opened and closed again. She turned around only after she saw Hong Shu jump to the first floor.
"He is indeed a top scumbag, destined to hang out in nightclubs for the rest of his life." Sun Ziyi thought, then walked to the sofa, dragged the desk lamp to the balcony, and immediately placed an order for a new desk lamp on Taobao.
Finally, Sun Ziyi planned to use his savings to live for a while and write a novel after the investors gave up on him.
After typing five thousand words, she lay down on the bed contentedly. She slept soundly that night and didn't dream at all.
After living alone for so long, Sun Ziyi has developed some quirks. For example, he tells himself "I'm going to eat!" before eating, plays music very loudly while taking a shower, and watches TV at double speed. After being alone for so long, he seems to lose the patience to kill time bit by bit.
She seemed to be a little moved by Xu Zecheng just now, but she didn't know whether it was just a feeling of affection, or a sense of freshness because she hadn't been cared for by anyone for a long time?
She actually wants to fall in love a little bit.
