Chapter 77 Fear of the Five Emotions
Biyao felt her body become light and airy, and suddenly she was lifted off the ground. When she opened her eyes, she entered a vast and bizarre world. Floating before her were many large and small, colorful fragments, like shattered glass scattered on the ground, refracting seven colors of light in the sunlight.
Upon closer inspection, one can vaguely see human figures moving among the fragments.
This must be Qin Wuyan's memory.
But with so many fragments of memory, she couldn't immediately identify which piece belonged to which memory.
After looking for a long time, Biyao still couldn't recognize it, so she had to choose one at random. She slowly reached out and lightly touched a larger square fragment with her fingertips. Instantly, it radiated light. She subconsciously closed her eyes, and when she opened them again, she was in an unfamiliar room.
Biyao looked around the room; the furnishings were extremely simple, and she probably had never been here before. She wondered which of Qin Wuyan's memories she had entered.
A commotion arose outside the door. Just as Biyao was about to leave, a child rushed in, his clothes tattered, frantically running around trying to hide. Immediately afterward, a group of boys, around fourteen or fifteen years old, also burst in, laughing and shouting.
"Grab him quickly!"
"Block the door, don't let him escape again!"
"Make way, make way!! I'm here to teach them a lesson!"
Biyao was utterly bewildered. Where was she? She followed the group of children into the inner room, where the leader of the group of boys stepped forward, dragged one of the children who had run in from under the table, grabbed the child by the collar, shoved a dark object into his mouth, and grinned menacingly.
"Eat! Eat! Eat it all! Qin Wuyan, weren't you just craving this bun? I'm giving it to you now, why aren't you eating it? Huh!?"
Biyao was shocked. That child... was actually Qin Wuyan?!
She...she's entered Qin Wuyan's childhood memories.
"Ugh...ugh..." Xiao Wuyan struggled desperately against the boy, but he was thin and small, no match for a fourteen or fifteen-year-old boy. Moreover, the others came forward to grab his hands and feet, pressing him down and making him kneel on the ground. They grabbed his hair and forced him to tilt his head back. He couldn't break free, and tears streamed down his face. He could only let the boy who was leading them stuff the things in his hand into his mouth like feeding a pig.
"Eat up! These buns filled with poisonous centipedes, scorpions, and snakes are incredibly delicious, hahaha!"
Biyao was utterly shocked. Could this be something a human could eat? She was furious and kicked the boy hard.
But... she is now only a soul, and no one can see or touch her. Therefore, no action she takes will have any effect on the people here.
She was both anxious and angry, and could only watch helplessly as the group of teenagers continued to bully her.
Xiao Wuyan had given up struggling. He closed his eyes, and his mouth slowly began to move, actually starting to chew little by little. An indescribable bitter and fishy smell instantly filled his mouth, causing him to gag violently. But he could only endure it, mechanically continuing to chew and swallow, his tears and the steamed bun mixed together.
"How is it? Qin Wuyan, doesn't it smell delicious? Hahahaha!!"
"We disciples of the Ten Thousand Poisons Sect must be able to eat anything! Don't you agree? Hahaha..."
Seeing his disheveled and pained state, the boys burst into satisfied laughter, finally releasing him and leaving in droves. Only Qin Wuyan remained, kneeling on the filthy ground, clutching his throat, his body trembling violently with nausea and fear.
"Ugh... ugh..." He tried his best to vomit up everything he had just swallowed, but he couldn't.
“Wu Yan…” Bi Yao’s eyes were filled with tears. He looked to be only five or six years old at the time. He was thin and small, and his face was bruised and swollen, covered with scars.
Biyao silently shed tears beside him. She knew that he had a hard time in the Ten Thousand Poisons Sect, but hearing about it was nothing compared to the shock and heartache she felt when she saw his tragic experience with her own eyes.
Just then, one of the petals of the Five-Colored Five Emotions Flower in Biyao's hand slowly turned half of its white petal into black.
Fear... What Wuqinghua collected from this memory was the fear that filled his body and mind.
"Junior brother!! Junior brother!" A hurried shout suddenly came from outside the door, and a boy rushed in: "Junior brother, what are you sitting here for? Come with me quickly, Master is looking for you!"
Xiao Wuyan recognized him as his senior brother, Bai Duzi. He hurriedly wiped away his tears and immediately got up to follow him.
Biyao quickly followed.
"Senior Brother...what does Master want with me?" Xiao Wuyan asked as he walked, feeling uneasy.
Bai Duzi said, "Junior brother, you've been in our Ten Thousand Poisons Sect for a month now. Don't you know that after joining, anyone who wants to stay here must accept Master's introductory teachings?"
Xiao Wuyan looked completely bewildered and asked with wide eyes, "What is the introductory instruction?"
Bai Duzi sneered, "You'll find out when you get there."
As Biyao listened to their conversation, a bad feeling welled up in her heart.
Upon arriving at the main hall of the Ten Thousand Poisons Sect, the Poison God saw Qin Wuyan covered in wounds from head to toe and narrowed his eyes slightly: "Who beat you up?"
A glimmer of hope rose in Xiao Wuyan's heart, and he said timidly, "It's...it's Senior Brother Zhou and Senior Brother Liu, they...they brought people..."
Before he could finish speaking, the Poison God stepped forward and took his pulse: "Fortunately, it's just a superficial injury; it didn't damage his foundation."
The Poison God chuckled softly and said, "Your senior brothers are just like that! Don't bother with them! Wu Yan, I rescued you from the jaws of jackals and cured your illness. How do you think I should repay this kindness?"
Biyao had a bad feeling, but Qin Wuyan was obviously unaware of what was going to happen. He still had a grateful heart and knelt down with a thud: "Wuyan is willing to follow Master and repay Master's life-saving grace with his whole life!"
Biyao's heart clenched. Qin Wuyan, if you knew how your master would treat you, would you still say that?
The Poison God was very satisfied with Qin Wuyan's answer, stroked his beard and laughed loudly: "Very good! Very good! You have this intention, and it was not in vain that I went to great lengths to save you. Your physique is extremely rare. If you follow me and cultivate diligently in the future, you will surely be the next sect leader of my Ten Thousand Poisons Sect."
Xiao Wuyan's eyes widened suddenly, as if excited, delighted, but mostly in disbelief.
Bai Duzi glanced sideways at Qin Wuyan, laughing inwardly. This silly junior brother probably didn't know how much their master liked to make empty promises to each new disciple.
Qin Wuyan was intelligent and quick-witted from a young age. Although he was only five years old, he had already learned a lot about the disciples of the Ten Thousand Poisons Sect since he arrived there. They were all envious of the future position of sect leader. As the saying goes, "The tallest tree in the forest is bound to be felled by the wind." He bowed his head and said, "Thank you, Master. Actually, Wuyan doesn't ask for the position of sect leader. He only wants to repay Master's kindness and help Master to make the Ten Thousand Poisons Sect great and become the number one sect in the Holy Sect!"
Upon hearing this, Biyao couldn't help but admire Qin Wuyan from the bottom of her heart. To be able to say such things at only five years old! Thinking back to when she was five years old... it seemed that what she often did was pester her parents for candy.
"Hahahaha!!" The Poison God laughed loudly: "Such ambition at such a young age, you are indeed a promising talent! Very well! Today, I will teach you your first lesson."
After saying that, the Poison God took out a dark porcelain bottle from his sleeve, concentrated his power in his palm, and a wisp of black smoke curled out of the bottle and entered Qin Wuyan's scalp.
Qin Wuyan shuddered, feeling something crawling onto his body. Then, that strange sensation suddenly turned into a cold, inward-eating pain, as if countless tiny, cold insects were gnawing and drilling into his bones, as if his marrow was being slowly drained away...
"Ah!!..." He finally couldn't take it anymore, collapsed to the ground and struggled in pain, his whole body convulsing violently.
"Master... Master, please forgive me... Please, Master... Waaah..." Xiao Wuyan thought he had done something wrong, which was why he was being treated like this. He rolled around on the ground in pain while begging for mercy.
Biyao was heartbroken and wanted nothing more than to kill the Poison God, the source of all evil, but unfortunately, she could do nothing about it.
The Poison God smiled sinisterly: "Wu Yan, this is a reward, the Ten Thousand Poison Gu that every disciple who enters the Ten Thousand Poisons Sect must endure. The first time... pain is inevitable, just bear with it. From now on, every month, as long as you diligently cultivate with me and serve me, I will give you the antidote. Of course, if you disobey, the pain of being bitten by the Ten Thousand Poison Gu will only be more intense than today! Bai Duzi, take him away to change his clothes..."
"Yes, Master!" As the Poison God walked away, Bai Duzi stepped forward and helped Qin Wuyan up from the ground.
"Senior brother! Senior brother, save me!! Ah... Ah!!! Save me! Ah!!"
He was being poisoned with the Gu for the first time, and naturally he could not bear it. His face was contorted with pain, and he screamed in agony!
Bai Duzi sighed, "Junior brother, this is something that all disciples of the Ten Thousand Poisons Sect must go through after joining. I've been through this myself. Just bear with it! It will pass soon!"
Qin Wuyan was in so much pain that tears streamed down his face. It felt as if his whole body was being torn apart, his heart and liver were being ripped out, and the pain was piercing to the bone! In the end, he didn't even have the strength to struggle or roll around. He curled up in a ball on the ground and cried incessantly.
At just five years old, he truly understood what it meant to be unable to live or die!
Just watching it caused Biyao unbearable heartache, yet she was powerless to do anything about it.
At the same time, one of the petals of the Five Emotions Flower in her hand had turned completely black.
The five fears have been collected.
Biyao couldn't bear to watch any longer and wanted to exit this memory, but seeing Xiao Wuyan's trembling body, she gritted her teeth and decided to stay.
Even though she couldn't shield him from the storms of the past, she hoped to delve into his memories and truly see all his untold wounds.
The attack of the Ten Thousand Poisons Gu finally ended. Bai Duzi took Qin Wuyan back to his room, found him a disciple's robe from the Ten Thousand Poisons Sect, and ordered someone to bring him hot water for a bath.
Biyao entered his room only after hearing him tell Bai Duzi that he had changed and washed his face. Qin Wuyan had washed his face and his facial features were vaguely recognizable as an adult. Most children his age would still have some baby fat, but he was thin and bony, clearly showing that he was hungry.
Bai Duzi placed a bowl of porridge and several steamed buns and dumplings on the table, saying, "Junior brother, eat quickly. After you finish eating, you still need to help Master grind medicine and refine Gu!"
Qin Wuyan nodded, but when he saw the steamed buns on the table, his stomach churned, and he lost all appetite. He asked cautiously, "Senior brother... I... I don't want to eat steamed buns, can... I ask for something else?"
Bai Duzi rolled his eyes and shouted angrily, "Where do you think this is? The imperial palace? Who do you think you are? You think you can just pick and choose what you want to eat? If you don't want to eat, then give it to me!"
"No!! No!!" Qin Wuyan hurriedly grabbed his hand that was about to take the bun away, his eyes brimming with tears, and said, "Senior brother, I'll eat it! I'll eat it! Please don't take it away! I... I haven't eaten anything for days..."
"That's right! If you're picky about food in the Ten Thousand Poisons Sect, you'll only starve to death! Finish your food and get to work right away, no slacking off!"
Qin Wuyan nodded with tears in his eyes, closed his eyes briefly, and forced himself to eat heartily, suppressing his discomfort.
Biyao watched with immense heartache, finally understanding why Qin Wuyan's least favorite food was steamed buns.
"Ding-a-ling..." The bell on her wrist rang crisply, and Biyao realized that a day had passed outside.
Time was of the essence; she had to hurry and collect the next piece of the Five Emotions. Despite her reluctance and heartache, Biyao had no choice but to withdraw from this memory.
The sea of consciousness was silent, with only fragments of memories shimmering with multicolored light.
After pondering for a moment, Biyao transmitted her voice to the bracelet: "Miss Manzhu, I have collected a full petal of the Five Emotions Flower. I would like to ask if there is any way for me to use magic in Qin Wuyan's memory?"
Manzhu's tone was firm: "Yes, but you can't! His memories are all about the past. If you interfere with his magic at will, it may cause changes to his memories and make his sea of consciousness unstable. If his sea of consciousness is shaken, your soul will be trapped in his memories and never be able to get out."
“Alright…” Biyao sighed.
Manzhu continued, “Miss Biyao, whatever you see in his memories, you must remember that your only goal is to collect the five emotions and retrieve his soul. Don’t worry about anything else. You can’t control it anyway, because what has happened in the past cannot be changed.”
Biyao knew perfectly well that her words were true, but witnessing Qin Wuyan's tragic experiences firsthand in her memories, and being able to stand by and watch helplessly, was truly heartbreaking.
Taking a deep breath, Biyao silently comforted herself. All of this was in the past, and Qin Wuyan no longer needed to endure such pain. The only thing she could do was to quickly regain his emotional essence and restore him to normal.
Reaching out, he selected another fragment of memory, and a familiar light emanated from it.
