Chapter 45

Yu Yao slept at Bai Fang's house for one night. When she woke up the next day, she heard the sound of Bai Fang cutting vegetables in the kitchen.

"Wake up! Wake up!" The quilt on her body kept yelling at her, making a lot of noise.

The weather was getting hotter, and Yu Yao decisively kicked the quilt aside, "Stop disturbing me."

"You always sleep so late, how could Xiaobai like you!" The quilt was still shouting relentlessly, trying to wake Yu Yao up.

"What are you doing?" Yu Yao arched her body helplessly, buried her face in the pillow, and climbed up with difficulty.

"Let me tell you something." Quilt urged her anxiously.

"Go on, I'm listening." Yu Yao mumbled lazily and responded. She was still sleepy, half asleep and half awake.

"Those things outside seem to be your friend who was seen last night." Quilt said.

"Ah? Which friend?" Yu Yao was so dizzy that she couldn't react for a moment.

"Is it the one you met recently? She seems to be... a ghost exorcist?"

Yu Yao was stunned. She suddenly sat up in bed and stared at the quilt. "Liang Yubai? What did you see about her?"

"Um... I saw her being taken away by a... strange woman." Quilt said slowly.

Yu Yao lay on the bed, staring at the quilt carefully. "What kind of strange woman took her away? Do I know her? What was her condition at the time?"

"They said he was taken away after he fainted? I don't know the details! Don't ask me, go out and ask yourself." Quilt yelled, without saying much.

Yu Yao nodded, as if it would be faster to go out and ask something else.

She immediately got up and prepared to go out to wash her face and brush her teeth, but suddenly she remembered something and looked back at the quilt on the bed. "But...how did you know? How can you run out like a quilt?"

"Bah! How can a quilt have legs? If I had legs, I'd be the first to kick you out!" The quilt yelled in a muffled voice, "Those things wanted to convey this message to you. They passed it on one by one, just think of it as a relay. The one who shouted to me last night was the one in the flowerbed downstairs who heard it and kept shouting for a long time."

"Oh..." Yu Yao nodded, "Thank you."

"Hmph, I'm also annoyed by being yelled at. Otherwise, who would want to tell you?" The quilt hummed softly.

The tone and attitude of his statement were somewhat similar to Liang Yubai's. Yu Yao's mood immediately brightened. She turned around, folded the quilt neatly on the bed, and patted it gently. "Then I'll go out and wash up. Anyway, thank you for conveying the news to me."

After saying that, she jumped out of the bedroom and ran to the kitchen.

"Doctor Bai! I have important news!" Yu Yao started shouting as soon as she entered the kitchen.

Bai Fang turned around and picked up a piece of cold dish with chopsticks and stuffed it into her mouth. Then he asked, "What's the matter? You had trouble as soon as you woke up. Did you dream?"

Yu Yao puffed up her cheeks and swallowed the food in her mouth before telling Bai Fang what Quilt had just said.

"A strange woman?" Bai Fang pondered for two seconds while holding the shovel. "Liang Yubai only came here recently. She shouldn't have any women she has enemies with in this city. If she had to name one, it would probably be the possessed woman she mentioned during dinner that day. That's her real purpose for coming here."

Yu Yao nodded like a chick, "Yeah, yeah, I thought so too! That's all I can say! They also said Liang Yubai fainted at the time, so I'm a little worried."

"Liang Yubai last night...should she have gone to deal with the Yelai River incident? Something happened on her way back?" Bai Fang flipped the fried eggs in the pan with a spatula and continued to think. "If I want to know what happened to her and where she went afterwards, I can only go to Yelai River and ask around along the way."

Yu Yao nodded vigorously, "So we're going out later."

"Okay, but..." Bai Fang stared at the fried eggs in the pan and said silently, "I have a customer scheduled to come to the store this morning, but it has been postponed for two days. I have to go today, and I'm only free in the afternoon."

Yu Yao paused. Perhaps because she had been going out with Bai Fang for the past two days, she almost forgot about Bai Fang’s main job.

"It's okay!! I can find it myself! Doctor Bai, go to work first! Then I'll contact you when you're free!" Yu Yao rushed over with tears in her eyes and hugged Bai Fang's waist. After hanging on her, he began to sigh, "It's all my fault. I made Doctor Bai accompany me wandering around for two days."

Bai Fang smiled and rubbed her head. "There haven't been any new customers recently. She's an old customer. It's okay. When you go out later, be careful. Remember to contact me if you have anything."

Yu Yao nodded.

The two finished their breakfast in the living room. After Yu Yao changed her clothes, she prepared to go out.

"I'm going out. If Dr. Bai is free this afternoon, remember to call me." Before leaving, Yu Yao lingered at the door reluctantly.

"Yes, I will." Bai Fang nodded and assured her. He stared at Yu Yao's reluctant look, like a young wife, and couldn't help but lower his head and kiss her on the cheek, "Come back soon."

The sweet atmosphere, like that of a newlywed couple, made Yu Yao feel dizzy. She smiled and waved her hand, then left Bai Fang's house, looking back every few steps.

Only after she went downstairs did she come back to her senses, cheer herself up, and start looking for clues about Liang Yubai.

The message was delivered last night through all the talking things in this area. The last stop was the flower bed downstairs. He shouted for a long time at the only talking quilt upstairs. The message should have been conveyed directly to Yu Yao who was here, but she was sleeping too deeply, and in the end it was the quilt that heard it and conveyed it.

As summer approaches, the flowers are basically mature. Plants are different from old objects. Only the newly grown flowers will be noisy. After they are fully grown, they become much quieter.

After Yu Yao went downstairs, she went to greet the flowerbed downstairs and asked about the source of the news she heard last night.

Find it back from where it came from.

Yu Yao asked the objects that had conveyed the message last night along the way, and went back to find the message. Finally, she arrived at a street and the person who spoke was an old mailbox on the side of the road.

"She was standing here last night. She looked very weak, wet all over, and very pale. She kept coughing while leaning against the wall." Mailbox said slowly, "Then... a woman in black came over and spoke to her, and then... took her away."

Yu Yao squatted there in confusion, poking at the mailbox. "What kind of woman? Can you describe her characteristics?"

"You all look the same, two eyes and a nose, no special features. Anyway, there was just a woman in black clothes. It was late at night, and I couldn't see clearly." The mailbox responded and didn't intend to say anything more.

"What about you? Didn't you see clearly? Or does that woman really have no characteristics?" Yu Yao turned around and looked around. She could also see other things in the same location not far away.

"1. It's the same. I didn't see clearly and have no idea who it is." The other things also responded hesitantly.

Yu Yao supported her chin and thought for a while. She had been dealing with these things for many years and could sense that they seemed to be hiding some information. Objects would never lie unless it was related to their own survival. It was estimated that all these things were threatened.

She nodded, not intending to ask any more questions. She stood up, ignoring the passersby who were staring at her for a long time, and asked the objects, "So you should have seen which direction they went, right?"

"Oh, direction. Just go straight now. This is the direction you're going. You won't see anything further. If you go a little further, you should be able to ask for other things."

Yu Yao nodded and began to walk along the street in front of her. She didn't turn around until she reached the next intersection to look for other witnesses.

But she had never been to this area with Liang Yubai. The things here knew her, but not necessarily Liang Yubai. She stood there and described to them Liang Yubai's characteristics and condition last night, and also talked about the woman in black.

"You may not have noticed the woman in black, but she was accompanied by a woman who was wet and unconscious. You don't usually see such a combination, so you should have remembered it."

"...Ah, it's...her." The object seemed to remember something, but its attitude was the same as other objects. It began to hesitate when the woman in black was mentioned.

"You don't need to say too much. Just tell me which direction they went."

"Oh, that's fine. Go straight on your right, then turn left at the traffic light. I can't see the rest."

"Yes." Yu Yao nodded, "Thank you."

"It's okay." The object replied calmly, then muttered softly, "...So the other one is also your friend."

"Hmm?" Yu Yao heard it muttering something again, but the street was noisy and she couldn't hear it clearly.

"It's nothing, it's nothing. Go and find it quickly. It happened last night. If there was any danger, who knows what the situation is like now." The object urged.

"Okay." Yu Yao nodded, waved her hand, and started walking in the direction she was directed.

Because Liang Yubai's condition was very special, the questioning went smoothly along the way. Everyone had an impression of her, but when everyone mentioned the other woman in black, they all became silent, which made Yu Yao a little curious.

Such a person who warned all objects within the range of action hid his identity but did not hide his whereabouts.

Why? Is it that there's no need to hide your whereabouts, or is it that this point cannot be hidden?

She followed that road aimlessly, slowly moving away from the city center and towards the edge.

Yu Yao quickly went over the places she had been to in her mind according to the map of the city, and suddenly felt that the place she came to was somewhat familiar.

Isn’t this the place Liang Yubai mentioned where he found the woman’s soul?
