Chapter 7

"Hmm..." Yu Yao nodded. This was the secret that Muzhu said could not be told, a secret that would get you beaten if told. There was no problem with that.

It was not because Muzhu had ever seen a scene where she would be beaten if her husband found out, but because she herself was a symbol of this relationship and had witnessed her husband's domestic violence, she came to the conclusion that she would be beaten if her husband found out.

"Then let me ask again, why were you so frightened by what I said when you were at the door of the store just now?"

The voice on the other end paused, then whispered, "Although it's not nice to say this, I know him well. My ex had a very short temper and was impulsive. In fact, I once suspected that my husband's disappearance was related to him. After all, people are impulsive and can do anything. But it was only a suspicion, so I asked you to help me confirm whether my husband is really missing."

Yu Yao nodded.

Because Ms. Li had the same suspicion as her, those words scared her and she fainted.

In other words... after all this time, Yu Yao had misunderstood because of her auditory hallucinations and her suspicion filter when looking at people.

"That's about it. I have no more questions."

"Miss Yu suddenly became curious about these things, what's wrong?"

Yu Yao paused, glancing back at the unconscious owner of the braised meat shop. "Actually... I have the same suspicion as you. We just sneaked into his kitchen to search, and accidentally knocked him unconscious."

There was a pause on the other end, followed by a muffled chuckle. "Young people are indeed like that. They act immediately upon any suspicion."

Yu Yao felt heavy-hearted. "I hope he won't bear grudges and beat me up when he wakes up."

"Don't worry, I'll help persuade him. Call a taxi now and take him to my hospital. I've just finished my examination and am at the hospital entrance. I can pick him up."

"Okay, okay." Yu Yao nodded immediately and stood up.

"I'm sorry to bother you with this matter. I will transfer the compensation to your card as usual. Thank you for your hard work." Ms. Li's voice on the other end was very gentle, which made Yu Yao relax a lot.

"Well, it's a pleasure to work with you." Yu Yao nodded, and after confirming the address of Ms. Li's hospital, she called a taxi.

Bai Fang helped carry the owner of the braised meat shop into the taxi. Yu Yao stood by, staring blankly at her as she easily threw a man who was much stronger than her into the taxi.

"Okay, let him go to the hospital to cool down first." Bai Fang sighed lightly and pinched his delicate shoulders in a white shirt.

"Hmm..." Yu Yao nodded and turned to look at the braised meat shop. "Then we'll help him watch the shop here as an apology and compensation. We'll come back after he wakes up."

Bai Fang glanced at the time and said, "You can go back. I can watch over you. My home is close to here, but you don't live nearby, do you? It's quite dangerous to go back alone so late at night."

Yu Yao suddenly realized that it was already five or six o'clock and it would be dark soon.

"Then... please help, Doctor Bai?" Yu Yao was still a little reluctant, staring at Bai Fang with a touched look on her face. "Doctor Bai is really kind and beautiful. He is handsome and gentle. Can I keep in touch with you in the future?"

Bai Fang wore a businesslike smile, impassive. "Of course, now that it's confirmed that you're indeed hallucinating, you can come to me if you have any further troubles with auditory hallucinations."

"Yeah!" Yu Yao nodded vigorously, "Doctor Bai is really gentle."

Just as he finished speaking, a tiny voice came from somewhere on the other side, "Another fool fooled by her professional fake smile."

Yu Yao was stunned for a moment, and looked around in confusion. There were quite a few people passing by, and the voice just now was particularly small, and she had no idea where it came from.

"Then I'll go back first." Not finding the voice, Yu Yao had to pretend that she had misheard.

"Well, I will also send you a message about today's consultation fee." Bai Fang stood there with a smile and watched Yu Yao leave on her bicycle.

"Okay." Yu Yao waved her hand. She had already asked Shu Wen about the approximate cost before, and it was still acceptable. As long as she thought about spending an afternoon with the gentle and lovely beautiful sister today, she felt it was worth it.

"But my auditory hallucination is really just an auditory hallucination?" Yu Yao rode her bicycle back with a puzzled look on her face.

Obviously, there had been no mistakes before, but this time, with such an important matter, something went wrong.

Could it be that everything she heard was really made up by her imagination?

Yu Yao shook her head in confusion and decided not to think about it for the time being.

When they passed by the small flower bed on their way back, they saw the row of beautiful flowers again. As soon as they saw Yu Yao passing by, they started to rant and rave about her, cursing and showing their dislike for her.

Yu Yao's face darkened as she fell back and rode quickly across the puddle in front of the flower bed again, splashing a line of water. The sound of the small flowers became louder.

"Wow, the flowers this year are so beautiful." Passersby smiled and took pictures of the small flowers swaying in the wind with their mobile phones.

Only in Yu Yao's ears could those pretty little flowers feel helpless and furious.

After returning home, Yu Yao dragged herself onto the bed with a tired look on her face. The room was very quiet. Yu Yao usually wanted to have a quiet space at home, so there were basically few talking objects in the room.

"This is weird, so weird." Yu Yao rolled over on the bed in frustration. "Why is it wrong? Is this really an auditory hallucination?"

"What, what happened?" the magazine on the table asked cautiously.

"It's okay, don't talk."

"Oh..." The magazine shut up again in a weak voice.

"Oh, how could that be?" Yu Yao lay on the bed, her chin propped up, staring at the magazine on the table.

It was obvious that these people were quite independent in their thinking. Yu Yao didn't believe in ghosts and gods before, but this kind of auditory hallucination had been with her since she was a child. She always kept saying that it was an auditory hallucination and that she shouldn't be superstitious. But one day something really happened and confirmed that it was an auditory hallucination, and she became a little confused.

"No, it's definitely an auditory hallucination."

"But my auditory hallucinations must be based on my own judgment. Yes, that must be the case."

"This auditory hallucination is wrong. Maybe I made a mistake in judgment!"

Yu Yao encouraged herself and prepared to take a shower and rest. Just as she jumped out of bed, her cell phone rang. It was Bai Fang calling.

"You're calling so soon?! Dr. Bai, do you miss me?" Yu Yao quickly jumped up and pressed the answer button.

"Is that Yu Yao?" Bai Fang's voice came from the other end, as gentle and pleasant as before.

"Yeah." Yu Yao nodded, listening to the voice on the other end, with little bubbles of happiness coming out of her eyes.

"Regarding the consulting fee, I'll add your account and send it to you later."

"Okay." Yu Yao nodded in the air.

"Are you home?" Bai Fang asked kindly.

"I'm here. I've been home for a while and I'm resting." Yu Yao fell on the bed and answered with an intoxicated look on her face.

Dr. Bai’s voice sounds especially nice through the microphone. I really want to listen to it a little longer. I’m even willing to pay!

"It seems that you don't live very far away. I'm glad you're home now."

"By the way, Doctor Bai, has the owner of the braised meat shop come back?" Yu Yao sat up and thought that Bai Fang might still be at the door, so she immediately asked with concern.

"Not yet, but he should be soon. If he was knocked unconscious, he wouldn't stay down for long. He's probably still chatting with Ms. Li in the hospital."

"Oh, that's possible." Yu Yao nodded. After all, they had a very good relationship.

"That's enough to confirm you're home. I'm hanging up now."

Yu Yao reiterated Bai Fang's words in her mind, "Dr. Bai, are you calling to check on whether I've made it home safely?"

There was silence on the other end. "Good night."

Then he decisively hung up the phone.

"Heartless, you hung up so quickly." Yu Yao sighed, holding up the phone, and rubbed it with a look of reluctance. "When will Doctor Bai call me again?"

"Next time when I'm free, I'll go to her place again." Yu Yao put down her phone and happily jumped into the bathroom.

After taking a shower, Yu Yao washed off all her fatigue. She walked to the bed in her pajamas, stretched herself, threw herself on the bed, and picked up her cell phone to check.

"Huh? A missed call from Doctor Bai?!" Yu Yao quickly jumped up from the bed, her face full of excitement. "You must have missed me this time!!!"

She nervously pressed the redial button, put the phone to her ear, and waited for the voice on the other end.

The phone rang for a long time before it was connected.

"Hello, Dr. Bai, what's the matter with you calling me?" Yu Yao rubbed her fingers, full of anticipation.

"I just received a new notification." There seemed to be a lot of noise on the other end of the line, with voices very loud. "The owner of the braised meat shop was in a car accident on the way to the hospital. The driver is fine, but he hit his head in the back seat and died."

Yu Yao was suddenly stunned, remembering the voice floating above him, the mysterious male voice that kept cursing in a low voice with resentment.

"Then the police followed his identity and came to the store. I had them investigate his kitchen, and they found a murder there. They found the victim's teeth and hair, which had not been processed yet. The details are still under investigation. Presumably, the braised meat in those jars in the refrigerator you mentioned is indeed real."

Yu Yao sat there in a daze, rubbing her head. The speculation that she had originally overturned was actually established again. The murder of the braised meat shop owner in the kitchen was true, but it was not Ms. Li's husband, but someone else.

It's been really up and down.

"So... my auditory hallucinations are real?"

"Well, you've never been to his kitchen, so how do you know there are cans of meat in his freezer? Even though it's hard to believe, I think the noises you heard were real."

Yu Yao listened to the phone blankly, and glanced furtively at the magazine that she had just told her to shut up.

When they are just auditory hallucinations, they can still be arrogant and righteous.

When I thought about the fact that they had self-awareness, I felt a little scared.

"No, no, no, it must be an auditory hallucination. Doctor Bai, you have to believe like me that there are no spirits or ghosts in the world. It's all human psychology!"

"How do you explain what happened today?"

"Today's..." Yu Yao scratched her head, "It was an accident."

"..." Bai Fang was silent on the other end. "Alright, if you think it's an accident, then it's an accident. Anyway, come to my place tomorrow. We found something in the kitchen and need to record a statement."

Yu Yao's eyes lit up and she highlighted the key points again.

"Can you join Dr. Bai tomorrow too?!"
