Xu Yi nodded, acknowledging her thanks. "There are many snakes in the back mountain. Be careful next time."
He knew a little about Lu Sheng's family situation; they wouldn't have anything to eat if they didn't go up the mountain. He hadn't had any contact with them before, but he still said something when they met today.
"Sister, are you picking these wild vegetables?" Fu Man'er saw a basket next to her with a small handful of wild vegetables inside.
Lu Sheng nodded. These wild vegetables were not only for the family to eat, but could also be taken to town to exchange for some copper coins.

"There are so many there, I'll help my sister get them." Fu Man'er picked up the wild vegetables and saw a large clump not far away, so she excitedly went forward.
She really doesn't learn her lesson. Xu Yi glanced at her with a headache. There were wild vegetables and weeds all over there. Who knows what might suddenly pop out from somewhere.
"I don't need you, I can do it myself." Lu Sheng looked ahead suspiciously. How come she hadn't noticed such a large patch of wild vegetables before?
She was already very grateful that Xu Yi had just given her the herbal medicine.
Fu Man'er had already squatted down. "Sister, let me help you. The wild vegetables I picked are really good." As she spoke, she parted the weeds and reached out her hand. "Ouch!" the little girl cried out softly.
With his eyes fixed on the ground, Xu Yi stood on her hand and looked over Fu Man'er's head to see a nest of wild eggs.
Lu Sheng was stunned when he walked over. There were many gray eggs there, unlike the white ones laid by the chickens at home.
Fu Man'er reached out her little hand, took one out, and handed it to Lu Sheng, "Sister, look, so many eggs."
Lu Sheng almost reached out her hand, but she looked away from the eggs. "Hmm, so many eggs." She had seen eggs many times, but had never eaten them before.
"Brother, can I give the eggs to my sister?" Fu Man'er leaned back, and Xu Yi quickly braced his leg against her back. She then sat on Xu Yi's feet and tilted her head back as far as she could.

"No, no, no." Lu Sheng quickly waved his hand to refuse, "You're the one who found these eggs, I can't take them."
"Here you go, watch over her for a bit while I go upstairs." He hadn't decided what to do with Fu Man'er when he went upstairs, so it would be fine to let her stay downstairs with Lu Sheng.
"Hmm?" Fu Man'er stood up with a thud. What was her brother going to do?
Xu Yi patted her hair. "Go dig for wild vegetables with your sister here. I'm going upstairs for a bit, I'll be right back."
Fu Man'er looked at Lu Sheng and nodded in agreement. She knew that her brother must be going to do something.
The brother and sister made their decision, and when Fu Man'er pulled at Lu Sheng's clothes, a rare look of confusion appeared on Lu Sheng's face: it seemed that she hadn't agreed.
"Oh, right, sister, you don't know my name yet, do you? My name is Fu Man'er, and I'm the Xu family's granddaughter..."
Fu Man'er chattered on and on, but Lu Sheng already knew all of this. Everyone looked down on the little girl the Xu family had picked up, but the Xu family doted on her rotten.
Her clothes were all brand new, and the hair tie in her hair was the prettiest. She would always bring out some food that many people had never eaten before. Also, she was fair-skinned and tender, and her smile was so endearing.
Lu Sheng was a man of few words; it was mostly Fu Man'er who did all the talking, with Lu Sheng occasionally chiming in. Fortunately, Fu Man'er mostly talked about her own affairs.

"Sit down and rest for a while." After squatting for a while, Lu Sheng was afraid that her legs would go numb, so he found a big rock and let her sit on it. Seeing that there were fallen leaves and dirt on the rock, and then looking at Fu Man'er's new clothes, he swept the things off with his hands.
Fu Man'er was picking eggs into the bamboo basket with her back to her, so she didn't see this scene.
"Sister, aren't you going to rest for a while?" Fu Man'er was already sitting on the rock, swinging her legs as she looked at Lu Sheng, who was still picking wild vegetables on the ground.
"I'm not tired." Lu Sheng was very quick and efficient. His bamboo basket was almost full of wild vegetables. Now he would not only have food, but also a few copper coins.
Just as she reached out to pick a wild vegetable, something rushed past her, so fast that she only saw a white blur, then a thud, followed by Fu Man'er's voice.
Lu Sheng turned his head to look, and saw two speeding rabbits crash straight into the rock where Fu Man'er was sitting.
Fu Man'er was still stunned when she immediately ran over and pinned the rabbits down, afraid they would run away. But Lu Sheng was obviously overthinking it. Perhaps they were running too fast. One of them had already crashed and died. The other one kicked its hind legs twice, tilted its head, and died.
"These two rabbits are quite plump." Lu Sheng held the two rabbits, and a slight smile appeared on his face.
Fu Man'er had already jumped down from the rock. "Sister, you're so amazing! You actually caught the rabbit!" She hadn't even noticed how the rabbit had gotten there.
Lu Sheng glanced at her and lowered his eyelashes. "It hit the rock." He implied that he hadn't caught it, but in Fu Man'er's opinion, even if it hit the rock and then caught it, it was still impressive.

Lu Sheng tied the two rabbits up with straw rope and put them aside. Soon after, Xu Yi came down, and Lu Sheng also carried a bamboo basket and prepared to leave.
She handed one of the rabbits to Xu Yi, who naturally refused to accept it. They hadn't contributed anything to the rabbits, so there was no reason for him to take them. But Lu Sheng insisted and placed it at Xu Yi's feet before getting up.
"See you later, Sister Lusheng!" Fu Man'er called after her, but Lusheng didn't turn around and quickly ran downstairs.
“Actually, Lu Sheng isn’t her name,” Xu Yi suddenly said. Fu Man’er looked at her in confusion, but didn’t everyone call her Lu Sheng?
Xu Yi explained to her that everyone called her Lu Sheng because her mother was working in the fields when she gave birth to her. She went into labor halfway through the work and didn't even get home. She was just by the roadside, covered with a few pieces of rags, and that's how the child was born.
The child born this way was named Lusheng, which everyone thought was unlucky. Even Lusheng's grandmother felt ashamed and found fault with her daughter-in-law in every way.
Lu Sheng's father couldn't stand the gossip and left for two or three years without any news. Lu Sheng and her mother were also kicked out and lived in the house closest to the foot of the mountain.
"What about my sister's mother?" She knew this area well and had met everyone, but she had never seen Lu Sheng's mother before.
"Stay at home." He had overheard the adults talking about how the mother and daughter were being supported by Lu Sheng.
Seeing that Fu Man'er wanted to ask more questions, Xu Yi led his men down the mountain, knowing that if she asked any more, the questions would never end.
"Brother, the rabbit." Fu Man'er was being pulled along, and she glanced back at the rabbit placed by the stone.
"Just put it there."
Someone will take it; just consider it an apology for being late today.
