Chapter 239: Well-informed

I know that Qiu Qiu is worried that I have suffered too much of a blow and is worried about me staying at home alone.

But she is currently undergoing an assessment in the technical department, and regular attendance is a very important factor. If she suddenly asks for leave and is absent from work, it will inevitably cause dissatisfaction among her superiors.

Yuan Yaxin kicked me out of the company, and then she will probably target the people around me. I can't let her find fault with Qiu Qiu.

Qiu Qiu takes care of me like her own sister, so I naturally cannot let her do whatever she wants without considering the consequences.

"No, I don't live far from the company. I can go back by myself. And I also want to go home and have a good rest."

"But..." Qiu Qiu still wanted to insist.

I patted the back of Qiu Qiu's hand and said, "Okay, go to work with peace of mind. I'll text you when I get home."

"Okay." Qiu Qiu agreed reluctantly and watched Gu Rui and I enter the elevator.

There was a license plate restriction today, so I didn't drive. Gu Rui dropped me off at the company gate, and I asked him to put down his suitcase and urged him to go to work.

"I'll wait for a free bus and get on it. You should hurry back. Otherwise, if Yuan Yaxin finds out you're away from work, she'll make a big fuss."

"Okay." Gu Rui responded reluctantly and walked into the company, looking back every few steps.

I was standing on the side of the road, watching the passing vehicles, wanting to hail a taxi to go home, when I caught a glimpse of a familiar car out of the corner of my eye.

I turned my head and saw the car gradually approaching me and finally stopping in front of me.

I was slightly surprised. It was Yan Meng's car.

How come he is here?

The car window rolled down, revealing Yan Meng's smiling face.

He glanced at the box at my feet and jokingly said, "It looks like you were fired by the company?"

I didn't answer him, but looked at him coldly, feeling wary.

My intuition tells me that Yan Meng knows more than I thought.

"Mr. Yan is really well-informed, isn't he?" I pointed out directly.

Yan Meng did not refute, but smiled and said: "I am here to help you, not to harm you, you don't have to be so hostile to me."

His eyes slowly moved down to my lower abdomen, and he teased, "Besides, I'm the rumored father of your unborn child after all. How can I let you go back alone after suffering such a blow?"

The four words "scandalous dad" hurt me. This was Lu Zhiyuan's guess, a ridiculous misunderstanding.

As if he could see that I was in a bad mood, Yan Meng stopped teasing me and urged me, "Hurry up and get in the car, otherwise if one of your colleagues sees us, rumors about us will spread all over the place again."

His words reminded me that there was already a rumor circulating in the company that the child was Yan Meng's. Lu Zhiyuan had just made a big fuss, saying that I was teaming up with Yan Meng to bring him down. If someone saw me and Yan Meng together at this time, I would never be able to clear myself of the rumor even if I jumped into the Yellow River.

I bent down to pick up the box, but I heard the sound of the car door opening. Then Yan Meng walked up to me, picked up the box for me and put it in the back seat.

He then opened the passenger door and said, "Get in."

I hesitated for a moment, but still sat on it.

Yan Meng took me home and parked the car downstairs of the apartment building where I lived.

Yan Meng got off the car before me and held my suitcase in his arms.

"I'll take you upstairs."

I frowned and got out of the car, refusing unhappily: "No, I can do it myself."

As I said that, I reached out to grab the box, but Yan Meng dodged it, looking like he would not give up until he sent me upstairs.
