Chapter 443: A Sleepless Night

Lu Zhiyuan's eyes flashed with panic: "Why are you staring at me like that?"

"You didn't sleep last night, did you?" I asked, but I already had a firm answer in my heart.

Lu Zhiyuan avoided my gaze guiltily and lied to me, "I slept. I heard all this when I was buying breakfast this morning. I happened to hear the neighbors talking about it, so I overheard it."

I directly exposed his lies: "You can investigate so thoroughly, it's not enough to just hear from the neighbors. And you also asked someone to check the insurance company, which is not something that can be completed in one morning."

Perhaps knowing that he couldn't hide it from me, Lu Zhiyuan had no choice but to confess honestly.

"Okay, I looked this up last night. I didn't sleep all night. Based on the names Uncle Feng provided, I found Cheng Xi's old neighbors, went door to door, and pieced together this information."

I couldn't help but feel nervous.

The neighbor's words were somewhat exaggerated, especially considering that these events happened over twenty years ago. To get such detailed information clearly showed how much effort Lu Zhiyuan had put into this entire night.

I suddenly felt a little sorry for him and urged him, "Then go back and catch up on some sleep. We'll continue investigating later."

Lu Zhiyuan glanced at his watch: "It's too late to catch up on some sleep. We need to go somewhere."

"Um?"

I was completely confused and was pulled out of the hotel by Lu Zhiyuan.

Sitting in the car, I asked suspiciously, "Where are we going?"

"Go find Cheng Yu to verify what these neighbors are saying."

I frowned, not approving of Lu Zhiyuan's approach: "Do you think Cheng Yu will tell the truth? We asked him yesterday, but he pretended not to know."

Lu Zhiyuan smiled confidently: "Yesterday is yesterday, he will definitely confess today."

I don’t know why Lu Zhiyuan is so confident, but I choose to believe him.

Lu Zhiyuan parked the car in front of the primary school. It was the time when parents were sending their children to school.

I was wondering when I saw Lu Zhiyuan suddenly open the car door, get out, and walk straight to the school gate.

I followed closely behind him, and when I got closer I saw Cheng Yu helping his son tie a red scarf at the school gate.

Lu Zhiyuan stood directly behind Cheng Yu and asked with a smile, "Oh, you personally send your child to school!"

Cheng Yu turned around and saw that it was us. His body suddenly stiffened and he subconsciously held his son in his arms.

His face turned cold, his brows furrowed, and he asked impatiently, "Why are you looking for me again? How many times do I have to tell you that I know nothing about Cheng Xi and the Lan family!"

Seeing Cheng Yu’s reaction, I suddenly understood why Lu Zhiyuan was so confident.

Cheng Yu had a son in his middle age and he doted on him very much.

The most effective way to get someone to cooperate is to grasp his weakness.

Lu Zhiyuan did not answer Cheng Yu's question, but squatted down and greeted the little boy in Cheng Yu's arms.

"Hello, little boy! Tell me, what's your name?"

Although Lu Zhiyuan smiled warmly, the little boy was still very shy. He snuggled into Cheng Yu's arms again and asked timidly, "Dad, who are they?"

Cheng Yu's pupils trembled slightly, and he was obviously panicked.

Lu Zhiyuan stood up at this time: "We are..."

"They are Dad's friends." Cheng Yu interrupted Lu Zhiyuan, obviously worried that the little boy would be scared.
