Chapter 39 What responsibility do you say you should take?
Huo Zheng approached Chunzhi step by step, "What responsibility do you think you should take?"
Chunzhi kept backing away until her back hit the wall and she could go no further.
She said in a panic: "I drank too much last night... I don't remember anything..."
"You really don't remember?" Huo Zheng didn't believe it, and said with a slight curl of his lips: "Then I'll help you recall it."
He held Chunzhi's wrist and asked, "How did you drag me onto the bed, and how did you get wrapped around me and untie my clothes..."
"No... no need!" Chunzhi interrupted him, forcing herself to calm down. "We both drank last night and weren't quite sober, so we did that. But overall, it was consensual. I don't want you to take responsibility, and you don't want me to take responsibility either, okay?"
Huo Zheng's pair of narrow and long phoenix eyes narrowed slightly, and his expression was quite dangerous.
Chunzhi gritted her teeth and spoke again: "Just think of it as a one-night stand between you and me, a fleeting romance that you'll forget after you wake up..."
Huo Zheng gripped Chunzhi's wrist tighter, "Is that what you think?"
Chunzhi said "hmm".
There was still a peach-colored blush on her face, but her eyes were clear.
She just wanted a child of her own.
I don't want to get involved with men.
So she would not keep him, nor could she take responsibility.
"Okay, very good."
Huo Zheng let go of Chunzhi's wrist, turned around, opened the gate, and went out again.
"Huo Qi!" Chunzhi called him, "We haven't had breakfast yet, where are you going?"
The man left without looking back.
Chunzhi rubbed her aching wrist, walked to the eight-immortals table and sat down to drink porridge. The buns bought by Huo Qi were still hot.
It was such a long way, I wonder how he managed to walk back with a cane.
How do you keep the buns warm when you bring them home?
Since Huo Qi was not around, Chunzhi had no appetite. She ate two buns and drank half a bowl of porridge and could not eat any more.
She wrapped the remaining buns in oil paper and put the bowl of porridge for Huo Qi into the pot to heat it up.
I thought that when Huo Qi came back, I could still have a bite of hot food.
She didn't make tofu today, and she was waiting for her man to come back, so she felt that time was especially long.
The courtyard door was not closed, and remained half open as it was when Huo Qi went out.
Chunzhi was making clothes for Huo Qi with other fabrics in the yard. From time to time, she would look out the gate to see if Huo Qi had returned.
I waited from morning until afternoon before I heard footsteps outside the door.
Chunzhi thought it was Huo Qi who came back, so she immediately put down her needlework and went out.
When I got outside, I saw a young woman walking in a hurry.
It looks quite familiar.
As soon as the other party saw her, he rushed into her arms like a young swallow flying into the forest, "Sister Chunzhi."
Chunzhi was a little confused and said, "You are..."
"I'm Yuzhu." The young woman hugged Chunzhi, her beautiful eyes sparkling. "Sister Chunzhi, don't you remember me?"
Chunzhi was surprised and said, "Yuzhu? You look so different from before, I can't even recognize you."
When she was a child, Yuzhu was as pretty as a piece of jade and very adorable. Now that she has grown up, she has become a beautiful lady with fair skin.
If they met her outside, Chunzhi would definitely not recognize her.
Yuzhu is one year younger than Chunzhi. She lives on the east side of Lu's house and is her neighbor.
Chunzhi was picked up by Lu Jingyun and taken home when she was nine years old. The children around her bullied her because she was thin and small, but only Yuzhu was willing to play with her and taught her needlework.
Yuzhu's family was originally quite wealthy. Four years ago, her father was killed by bandits while doing business outside. The family lost its pillar and her mother became seriously ill. She had only a twelve-year-old brother who also needed to go to school. Yuzhu sold the house and all her belongings, but it was still not enough to pay for her mother's medical treatment, so she sold herself to a wealthy family as a maid.
Since then, Chunzhi has never seen Yuzhu again.
Unexpectedly, she would come to my door suddenly.
Chunzhi pulled Yuzhu into the yard and said, "It's been four years since we last met. How are you doing now? Let's go inside and talk."
Yuzhu followed Chunzhi into the house, looking back frequently, as if she was afraid someone was following her. She also asked Chunzhi, "Sister Chunzhi, can you please close the gate first?"
Chunzhi was still waiting for Huo Qi to come back. She had originally not intended to close the door, but after hearing what Yuzhu said, she closed the gate.
She poured Yuzhu a cup of hot tea and the two sat in the yard and talked.
Chunzhi asked her, "Why did you come back so suddenly? Did something happen?"
Yuzhu seemed to be hesitant to speak, tears glistening in her eyes.
Seeing this, Chunzhi said in a gentle voice, "If you don't want to talk, don't talk. Are you hungry? I'll make you something to eat."
Yuzhu whispered, "I'm hungry."
Chunzhi served Yuzhu a bowl of porridge and opened the oil-paper package containing Li Ji's buns.
Yuzhu seemed to be really hungry. She ate three buns in one breath and drank a whole bowl of porridge.
Seeing this, Chunzhi said to her gently, "Eat slowly. If you don't have enough, there's more."
Yuzhu was so full that she couldn't help but touch her stomach and said, "I'm full."
Chunzhi looked at Yuzhu's clothes and didn't look like she hadn't had any food to eat. She wanted to ask her what had happened, but was afraid to bring up other people's sad stories.
Finally, it was Yuzhu who took the initiative to speak: "Sister Chunzhi, can I stay with you for a while?"
There are only two rooms in the courtyard. Chunzhi lives in one room and Huo Qi lives in the other room.
There was no extra room for Yuzhu to live in.
But Yuzhu has already come to her door. If she had somewhere to go, she wouldn't come to her here.
Chunzhi thought about it. To outsiders, she and Huo Qi were already married. If Huo Qi lived in a room alone while she and Yuzhu lived in the same room, and people found out, the fake marriage would most likely be exposed.
If Yuzhu were to stay in the same room with Huo Qi, after what happened last night, there would already be some ambiguity between them...
Seeing Chunzhi still not speaking, Yuzhu couldn't help but ask her, "Is it inconvenient?"
It’s really not very convenient.
But Chunzhi still nodded and agreed, "You sit here for a while, I'll go clean up the house."
Yuzhu stood up and said, "Sister Chunzhi, I'll go with you to clean up."
"No, just sit down and rest for a while."
Chunzhi also didn't want people to know that she and Huo Qi slept in separate rooms after getting married.
She changed the bedding, pillows and everything else in the room where Huo Qi slept, and let Yuzhu sleep there temporarily.
Yuzhu passed by the window and saw the room where Chunzhi slept, decorated with wedding characters and hung with red silk curtains. "Sister Chunzhi, are you married?"
Haruji nodded, "It happened a few days ago."
Yuzhu had just returned to Linshui Town today and hadn't heard yet that Lu Jingyun had married someone else after becoming the top scholar. She asked curiously, "You and Brother Lu are getting married, so why aren't you having your wedding room at the Lu residence?"
Chunzhi was just about to explain to Yuzhu that she was not going to marry Lu Jingyun when the courtyard door was suddenly pushed open from outside.
Huo Qi walked in with a cane.
Yuzhu turned around and met his gaze, unable to resist asking, "Who are you?"
Chunzhi stepped forward and said, "He is my husband, Huo Qi."
