Chapter 61 How could Huo Qi be the King of Chang'an?
Huo Qi went to work under the King of Chang'an and began to go out early and return late every day.
Chunzhi still gets up before dawn every day to work. With Laicai helping her grind the beans, she feels much more relaxed.
But Huo Qi was too demanding at night, so she could only take a short nap before having to get up to make tofu, and she almost overslept several times.
They both did it at night without sleeping, but Huo Qi felt refreshed every day, while Chunzhi was extremely sleepy. She discussed with Huo Qi to reduce the frequency but to no avail, so she could only catch up on sleep in the afternoon when she had nothing to do.
In the blink of an eye, more than a month passed like this.
Summer came in the blink of an eye.
Chunzhi fed Laicai every day and let him pull the millstone, and he soon became familiar with it.
Donkeys are hard-working animals and are easy to feed.
Chunzhi liked it very much and treated it like a treasure. She tied it up in the yard. She was afraid that the sun was too strong and would burn Laicai, so she built a straw hut for it with her own hands.
Let the wealth come without being exposed to the sun and rain.
Huo Zheng travels back and forth between Nanzhou City and Linshui Town every day, and sometimes he is too busy to go back.
Chunzhi always went forward alone, thinking she had gotten used to it.
But after spending so long with Huo Qi, when he occasionally doesn't come, I actually feel the house is empty.
If one person is missing, it's like losing popularity.
Chunzhi sometimes talked to Laicai, and sometimes went for a walk on the street to buy some things. She also bought two pieces of cloth to make new clothes for herself and Huo Qi.
The days passed peacefully and beautifully.
As for Lu Jingyun, the longer he stayed in Nanzhou City, the more anxious he became to meet King Chang'an.
But for some reason, His Royal Highness the Prince of Chang'an did not know what was going on. No matter how many times he sent letters or asked for an audience, there was no response.
It was obvious that Prince Chang'an was in Nanzhou City every day and had met with many local officials, but Prince Chang'an never met Lu Jingyun.
Lu Jingyun didn't know what he had done wrong until the day when Prince Ning held his birthday banquet.
All the officials and gentry in Nanzhou, either rich or noble, came to celebrate the birthday, even Prince Chang'an Huo Zheng came.
On the day of the birthday banquet, the palace was bustling with activity.
There were lights and decorations everywhere, and during the night banquet, the surroundings were brightly lit.
The musicians played the zither and the beauties sang and danced.
As the new top scholar, Lu Jingyun was praised by everyone and wrote a birthday poem for King Ning in public.
As everyone was praising him, a cry of "The King of Chang'an has arrived" drowned out all the noise.
Prince Ning smiled and asked the prince to lead everyone out to greet him. Lu Jingyun and a group of officials and gentry went forward to pay their respects.
The palace was extravagant and luxurious, with everyone in fine clothes, but it was nothing compared to that man's noble demeanor and naturally heroic appearance.
Everyone knelt and bowed:
"Your humble servant greets His Royal Highness Prince Chang'an!"
"This humble servant pays homage to His Royal Highness Prince Chang'an!"
Prince Ning's son, Huo Yu, stepped forward with a smile, "Qi Lang, you're finally here. Father was just talking to me about you."
Huo Zheng said in a normal tone, "It's the Emperor's uncle's birthday, and I will come to congratulate him."
The two walked forward while talking.
Lu Jingyun knelt on the ground, looked up at King Chang'an, and his face suddenly changed with fear.
Huo, Huo Qi!
How could Huo Qi be the King of Chang'an?
Lu Jingyun was horrified and could not accept this at all.
He even suspected that he was dazzled.
Lu Jingyun raised his hand and rubbed his eyes, then looked over again. It was still the same face, the same person.
Prince Ning and his son treated Prince Chang'an as a guest of honor, and the uncle and nephew had a very pleasant conversation.
Prince Ning smiled and asked Huo Zheng, "Qi Lang, what do you think of the beauties in Nanzhou? Are there any that are as good as you? I will give you two."
Huo Zheng said: "No need."
Huo Yu smiled and said, "Qi Lang is not interested in women. Everyone in the capital knows this. Father, if there is a woman in this world who can make Qi Lang's heart move, she must be a fairy who has descended to earth."
When Prince Ning said this, everyone laughed.
But Lu Jingyun couldn't laugh.
Huo Qi is the Prince of Chang'an. How could the Prince of Chang'an marry Chunzhi?
He left without even waiting for the banquet to end, and immediately took a carriage back to Linshui Town and went to Taohua Lane.
When Lu Jingyun knocked on the door, Chunzhi was lighting a lamp and doing needlework in the house. It was already late at night. When she heard the noise, she thought it was Huo Zheng coming back, so she ran to open the door.
When I opened the door, I saw Lu Jingyun standing in front of it, his face pale, as if he had encountered something big.
"Why is it you?"
When Chunzhi saw it was him, she immediately wanted to close the door.
Seeing this, Lu Jingyun strode forward, pressed the door shut, and called out, "Chunzhi."
His expression was a little serious. "Don't close the door so quickly. I have something important to tell you."
Chunzhi said coldly, "There's nothing to talk about between you and me."
"No." Lu Jingyun pushed the door open and stepped over the threshold. "This is a serious matter. I must tell you."
He looked worried. "I can't watch others lie to you."
Chunzhi didn't know what he was talking about, but since he had already come in, she couldn't close the door, so she simply let go of it and said, "If you have something to say, say it quickly, and then leave quickly."
Even now, Lu Jingyun still couldn't bear to see Chunzhi being so heartless. He asked Chunzhi, "Today is Prince Ning's birthday. Do you know who I met at the banquet?"
Haruzhi resisted the urge to roll her eyes and said, "Just say what you want to say. Don't keep me in suspense."
"Huo Qi, I met Huo Qi at Prince Ning's birthday banquet." Lu Jingyun said, "Do you know him..."
"I know." Chunzhi said, "Huo Qi now works under the Prince of Chang'an. What's so strange about him going to the banquet with the master?"
What she was thinking was that Huo Qi's hard work these days was not in vain, as he had gained the trust of King Chang'an so quickly.
He was even taken to such important occasions as Prince Ning's birthday banquet.
Huo Qi... is still quite powerful.
Lu Jingyun knew Chunzhi was thinking of something, so he changed his words again: "He is not working under the Prince of Chang'an, he is..."
Just when the most important words were spoken, a carriage came galloping and stopped in front of the courtyard gate.
Chunzhi looked up and saw the lantern hanging in front of the carriage swaying, the flames dazzling, and the extremely handsome Huo Zheng lifted the curtain and walked out.
Huo Zheng strode into the courtyard, put his arm around Chunzhi's waist, and frowned at Lu Jingyun, "It's none of your business to interfere in my affairs."
If it were before, Lu Jingyun would definitely have argued with Huo Qi.
But now.
After he knew that Huo Qi was the King of Chang'an, he could not say anything.
Lu Jingyun was silent.
"Huo Qi, you're back." Chunzhi was very happy to see Huo Qi back. "Have you had dinner? Are you hungry? Do you want me to cook you a bowl of noodles?"
Huo Zheng responded softly, "Okay."
When he saw Lu Jingyun at Prince Ning's birthday banquet, he knew that something was wrong.
I originally wanted to criticize Lu Jingyun after the banquet.
But who would have thought that this person would actually leave the table halfway, rush back to Linshui Town, and come to Taohua Lane to find Chunzhi.
After hearing the report from the secret guard, Huo Zheng immediately rode back at full speed.
"Then send him away." Chunzhi whispered to Huo Qi, "I'm going to cook noodles."
Huo Zheng said "hmm".
Chunzhi turned around and went to the stove to cook noodles.
"Chunzhi." Lu Jingyun called her, but she didn't turn back.
Huo Zheng glanced at Lu Jingyun and said, "Let's talk outside."
