Chapter 167 My Chunzhi deserves everyone's love
Chunzhi walked slowly into the bedroom and saw Queen Wang holding Xiaoxing and calling him "sweetheart" and "baby", just like a partial grandmother who was content with having a grandson.
The palace maid stepped forward and announced: "Your Majesty, the princess has returned."
Upon hearing this, Queen Wang regained her usual dignified and elegant demeanor. Reluctantly, she handed Xiaoxing back to the maid beside her and said to Chunzhi, "You've been gone for so long. Did you encounter any trouble?"
Chunzhi stepped forward and replied softly, "I didn't encounter any trouble. I just didn't know the procedures for holding a palace banquet, and I asked the senior ladies a few more questions, which delayed me a bit."
Seeing that she was not pretending to understand and was quite attentive to her instructions, Queen Wang found Chunzhi more and more pleasing to her eyes, and her tone unconsciously became better. "Come and sit down. If you have any questions, just ask me directly."
Haruji readily asked two questions.
Queen Wang patiently answered them one by one.
Chunzhi raised her eyes, looked at Queen Wang with a look that said, "Mother is so amazing," and said softly, "Thank you for your advice."
As the two were talking, a eunuch came in and announced, "Your Majesty, the Sixth Young Lady wishes to see you."
"What is she doing here again? Let her go back."
Queen Wang now gets a headache whenever she hears the name of Wang Yiyue, and the smile on her face fades.
Ever since Wang Yiyue married Lu Jingyun as his co-wife, she had quarrels with Ji Ruzhen every other day, causing unrest in the Lu family residence and becoming a laughing stock in the entire capital.
But Wang Yiyue didn't know how to be ashamed, and she brought all these troubles outside into the palace, crying and begging her aunt to take charge.
Queen Wang initially thought that no matter how bad Wang Yiyue was, she was still her niece, and she couldn't let the Ji family bully her.
But after this happened so many times, Queen Wang became annoyed.
It's a pity that Wang Yiyue herself is a hopeless person. Every time she comes to the palace, she causes trouble, which makes the imperial concubines laugh at her. They say that the queen's vision is not very good. She has loved her niece since childhood, but she picked and chose the daughter of Princess Chang'an, who can't even be a concubine.
"Yes... I'll go right away." The eunuch who came to report was also because Wang Yiyue had pestered him so much that he had no other choice. Seeing that he had offended the Empress, he immediately went out to chase her away.
After a while, there was a commotion outside the hall.
Wang Yiyue was unwilling to leave and cried and shouted that she wanted to see the Queen.
When Queen Wang heard these words, her face turned even uglier. She couldn't help but say, "This Lu Jingyun is also unpleasant. He can't even suppress the fire in the backyard. He is a laughing stock in the capital. It's better to send him away."
Queen Wang's words already made her want Lu Jingyun to leave Beijing.
Chunzhi didn't want to get involved in how Queen Wang treated Lu Jingyun and Wang Yiyue, so she walked aside to play with Xiaoxing.
Xiaoxing hadn't seen his mother for a long time and missed her very much. Even though he was very sleepy, he still waved his arms and asked her to hold him.
"Give it to me." Chunzhi said to the palace maid in a gentle voice and took the child.
The noise outside the hall soon dissipated, as if Wang Yiyue was kicked out.
Chunzhi ignored all that and patted the child gently. Xiaoxing nestled back in the familiar embrace and soon fell asleep.
Queen Wang didn't worry about Wang Yiyue for long. Her expression returned to normal and she said to Chunzhi, "You've been in the palace for most of the day. Qilang should be busy now. I'll send someone to take you to him. You can leave the palace and return home together."
"Yes." Chunzhi responded softly.
Just as Queen Wang was about to order someone to take Chunzhi over, she heard the eunuch outside the palace announce, "Your Majesty, the Prince of Chang'an has arrived."
When Queen Wang heard this, she said to Chunzhi, "He's coming quickly. You don't need to go over."
Chunzhi smiled slightly and said, "It seems that he and the Queen Mother are in perfect sync."
Queen Wang smiled and said, "It's not like he and I are in sync. He's clearly worried that you'll be wronged here."
Chunzhi smiled but said nothing.
If Queen Wang had not summoned her into the palace right after the emperor granted the marriage and asked her to agree to let Wang Yiyue be his concubine, Huo Zheng would not have done this.
The sun was setting outside the palace. Huo Zheng stepped inside and first glanced at Chunzhi. Then he bowed to Queen Wang and said, "Mother."
Seeing this, Queen Wang said slowly, "Your princess hasn't lost a single hair in this palace. Do you want to take another look?"
Huo Zheng actually looked Chunzhi over from head to toe again, "Indeed, there is nothing missing."
Queen Wang was so angry that she laughed, "Are you here on purpose to irritate me?"
Huo Zheng said, "I dare not."
"Is there anything in this world that you dare not do?" Queen Wang had finally realized that her adopted son was a seemingly well-behaved person. "Alright, now that you're here, take your princess and child back home."
"Then I will take the person away right away."
Huo Zheng said this as he walked forward and took Xiaoxing from Chunzhi's arms.
Xiaoxing fell back to sleep in a daze. He was transferred from his mother's arms to his father's arms, but he didn't wake up.
Chunzhi and Huo Zheng bowed to Queen Wang and took their leave together.
Queen Wang looked at the beautiful couple and their adorable child, and her anger subsided. She said softly, "Go."
Huo Zheng and Chunzhi walked out of Qiwu Palace and onto the palace road.
Chunzhi has seen this towering palace and its numerous palace gates several times and is still filled with awe.
In August, the sweet-scented osmanthus fills the air with fragrance, and the air is filled with aroma everywhere.
She walked beside Huo Zheng, and her heart, which had been tense for most of the day, finally slowly relaxed.
Seeing Chunzhi's dependence on him, Huo Zheng's eyes lit up with a smile. He asked her gently, "Why did our mother summon you to the palace today?"
"The Queen Mother wanted to see the child," Chunzhi said, "but she was too embarrassed to say it directly, so she asked me to come to the palace to help with the Mid-Autumn Festival banquet."
Huo Zheng laughed and said, "You were able to understand Mother's thoughts so quickly? You are very smart, Princess."
Chunzhi felt a little embarrassed by Huo Zheng's praise and said softly, "How long have I been the Princess of Chang'an? I've never even hosted a banquet in my own palace, let alone a palace banquet. Besides, all the ladies-in-waiting around my mother and Princess Rui are so helpful. Why do they have to ask me to come to the palace to help?"
Chunzhi is very self-aware.
Huo Zheng said, "My Queen Mother is slowly becoming aware of your good qualities."
Chunzhi said softly: "Actually, the Queen Mother doesn't like me and she doesn't like me either. It's good enough that she likes Xinghui."
There are few mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law in the world who are truly good friends.
But now Queen Wang treats her a little better, which is better than before when she always wanted to find a concubine for Huo Zheng.
Ever since Wang Yiyue married Lu Jingyun as his co-wife, Queen Wang seemed to have suddenly lost interest in choosing noble ladies as concubines for Huo Zheng.
Maybe the girls he had watched grow up were unreliable, and if he chose someone else's, he would have no idea what they were like inside, so he just kept quiet for the time being.
Huo Zheng said, "The Queen Mother will like you."
Chunzhi was about to say something when she heard Huo Zheng say, "My Chunzhi deserves to be loved by everyone."
