Chapter 55: A Heavy Kiss
Yu Fei looked at Jing Cang blankly.
Yu Shuang had just made a sudden attack, with the tip of the knife just a piece of clothing away from her heart. She thought she was going to die, but she didn't expect him to appear from the sky and block the fatal blow for her with his mortal body.
She was held tightly in his arms, as if she didn't need to be afraid of any wind, frost, swords and knives around her, because he would use his flesh and blood to build a warm house with copper and iron walls for her to ensure her safety.
Yu Fei smelled the familiar pine wood fragrance on him, and her heart felt like it had been split open, as a huge stream of liquid was poured into her. Her whole body was hot and her eyes were filled with tears.
Since her mother's death, she has never felt such strong and selfless love again, as if her well-being was worth someone's life.
Huo Dao on the other side was quick-witted and quick-handed. He drew his sword and was about to kill Yu Shuang with one blow.
Ah Shen, who followed closely, suddenly rushed in front of Yu Shuang and was killed by Huo Dao who cut his neck with a sword.
Seeing the dark blood oozing from the corners of Jing Cang's mouth, Yu Fei shouted in horror: "Huo Dao, find the imperial physician, the dagger is poisoned!"
The guards subdued Yu Shuang, and Huo Dao hurriedly sent someone to fetch the imperial physician who was coming to treat her injuries.
With the help of several people, Yu Fei slowly knelt on the ground and let Jing Cang lean in her arms.
She saw that his face was pale, his brows were wrinkled, and he looked like he was in pain, but his expression was calm and peaceful, as if he was an immortal who was about to ascend to heaven after saving the common man.
But Yu Fei knew that if it were anyone else except his parents, he would not have dared to step forward to deal with what happened today.
The life of a future emperor should be used to benefit more people, rather than disregarding his own safety for the sake of his children's personal affairs.
Yu Fei found that she always wanted to ask some obvious questions, and blurted out: "Why?"
Jing Cang looked at her steadily, turned his head, and said lightly: "I forgot that our pig has been released..." While speaking, he clenched his right fist.
What he meant was that he thought the dragon was still there and was afraid that she would not be able to withstand the blow and would implicate him.
Yu Fei recalled the day after he recovered his memory. He glared at her angrily, and his eyes were so cold and sharp that he seemed to want to cut off her calves. In order to reassure him, she said that they were connected by a snake, and if she died from the pain of a broken leg, he would be implicated.
Unexpectedly, he used a similar excuse to evade her today.
Yu Fei burst into tears, "Liar..."
She had clearly just talked to him about the topic of releasing the snake.
Jing Cang smiled faintly and looked at her hopefully, "If you think I'm lying, then do you have anything sincere to say to me?"
He is like "a dying man, his words are good", all he wants is to be happy. Just as Yu Fei's heart knot is how he will deal with her after the release of the snake, and Jing Cang has been stubborn about whether she likes him or not.
She disobeyed Jing Yi's orders for him and was willing to die for him. If this isn't overwhelming love, what else could it be?
But people are always so strange. They want to tell others things they know very well, as if only in this way can they feel truly at ease.
Yu Fei thought that if he recovered from his injury this time and got married as usual, she would still leave. Revealing her feelings now would only cause more hurt for both of them in the future. It would be better to let him think that she was a heartless person.
But watching the light in his eyes grow dimmer like a candle burning out, as if he was gradually becoming disheartened, her heart felt as if it was being gripped by an invisible hand.
Just as he was thinking about how to give a moderate answer, Jing Cang coughed twice and spat out a pool of black blood. He wiped the stains from the corners of his mouth with his sleeve and said calmly, "Forget it. It seems like I'm repaying a favor."
His proper manners and unfamiliar words seemed to push her away, achieving the goal that Yu Fei had wanted before.
But his eyes were tightly closed and his lips were tightly pursed, as if he didn't care about life or death. Or, it seemed that he had no strong will to survive and looked like he was dead.
She felt a great pain in her heart. She turned his face and kissed him hard on the lips, saying vaguely, "I'll tell you when you get better..."
Jing Cang originally thought that Yu Fei's words about dying for him in front of the battlefield were just a temporary measure.
She was interested in him, but not too much. She acted like this because of her personality and the situation. After all, she was in cahoots with a wolf, so she and the Yu family might not have a good ending.
At this moment, her soft lips pressed against his, and hot tears "pattered" on his face. His heart, which had fallen to the ground in frustration, seemed to be picked up by her and stuffed back into his chest.
He opened his mouth, wanting to deepen the kiss, but Huo Dao coughed softly from the side.
Yu Fei raised her head hurriedly and wiped the tears from her face in a panic. Seeing that Jing Cang's cheek was messed up by her, she gently wiped it clean for him.
After examining Jing Cang, the imperial physician found out that the dagger was coated with common poison. He took the antidote pills and would be fine after slowly recuperating.
The dagger didn't stab deep. Perhaps Yu Shuang saw Jing Cang blocking the knife for her and was cautious, so she stopped in time.
They simply bandaged the wound and returned to the East Palace together. Yu Fei received news that the Queen had summoned her to Kunyi Palace.
Jing Cang drank the calming soup and went to sleep. Yu Fei instructed Huo Dao that if she did not come back within an hour, he should wake up the prince and ask him to send someone to Kunyi Palace to look for her.
He led the troops to rescue her under the pretense that she was pregnant. If the empress found out that she was not pregnant, she might be angry with him. The seductive prince deceived his superiors and lied to his subordinates.
When the superiors do something wrong, the inferiors always have to take the blame. Jing Cang was lying injured, and the empress could not bear to blame him any more.
Huo Dao told her something that was like a bolt from the blue: the Queen knew that she had bewitched Jing Cang in the past and that the bewitching relationship between them had been resolved.
