Chapter 15
The final exams were finally over, but Wang Jiazhi wasn't sure if she'd received the scholarship. She didn't know if she'd done all that well, and even if she did, many other factors would have played a role.
But the process of giving your all is both arduous and joyful. Wang Jiazhi doesn't really care whether she gets the scholarship or not. She's already done her best, so the result isn't that important.
She was a bit overwhelmed by the sudden relief. Perhaps because she was too tired, she slept for a whole day and a whole night for the first time.
Xiaoshuang went out to play early in the morning. When she came back after dark, she was still sleeping. She probably didn't get up to eat all day.
One day, Wang Jiazhi was eating in a corner of the cafeteria. Although it wasn't crowded during the holiday, she was still wary of running into acquaintances, as usual. Her meal usually consisted of one or two steamed buns, washed down with the cafeteria's free coffee and pickled kelp.
Unfortunately, on this day, Huang Liju walked towards her with a plate in her hand.
"You're here too."
"Yeah." She smiled awkwardly.
Huang Liju was her deskmate in English class. Because the classroom was small, everyone's seats had gradually become fixed, but the two of them didn't have any special friendship.
After chatting for a while, Huang Liju sighed and said, "How did you do on the exam?"
"It's okay. I think I can pass."
Although Xiao Shuang didn't publicize her hard work, her classmates all saw her and knew she was working very hard. It was really embarrassing and shameful that she didn't do well in the exam.
Huang Liju said, "I'm probably going to repeat a grade."
"How come?"
Huang Liju said, "I calculated that history, English, and modern literature are definitely not out of the question. The others are just passable."
If you fail three subjects, you will definitely have to repeat the grade.
Huang Liju fiddled with the scrambled eggs with shrimp on the plate, stirring them up completely. Then she fiddled with the rice in the bowl, making a mess, but she didn't eat a single bite.
Wang Jiazhi thought that she probably didn't pay attention to the steamed buns and free pickled vegetables on her plate at the moment, so she felt relieved.
She whispered to Huang Liju, "Or we can think of a way. Maybe we don't have to repeat the grade."
Huang Liju rested her chin on the hand holding the chopsticks and said, "There's no other way."
Obviously, she felt that Wang Jiazhi was making useless sarcastic remarks and was a little angry.
Wang Jiazhi said seriously, "If there's a subject your teacher doesn't want you to fail, you don't have to repeat the grade and can just take a make-up exam."
"What should I do, teacher?"
"I think there's hope for English. Why don't you talk to the teacher and ask her to go easy on him."
Huang Liju said, "Don't joke. Those two teachers might be possible, but how could Cobra be possible? That old witch."
Wang Jiazhi said, "Although the other two teachers are very good, they are also very impartial. If you ask them, they probably won't agree. She's different. She really wants to be cared for and respected. No one else cares about her, but if you go, she'll be grateful. Maybe that'll work. Anyway, it's come to this, so we might as well give it a try. If it works, it'll save her another year of study."
Huang Liju put down his chopsticks, opened his eyes wide, and said, "What you said seems to make sense!"
Wang Jiazhi smiled slightly, continued to eat the food on the plate and prepared to leave.
"You come with me."
Huang Liju picked up several pieces of the already mixed scrambled eggs with shrimp and put them on her plate with her chopsticks.
Wang Jiazhi was chewing a steamed bun and quickly downing half a cup of coffee. She almost choked. She hadn't put sugar in the coffee; it was so bitter.
