Chapter 212
One day, Wang Jiazhi was washing dishes in the kitchen when Jiejun came in and said with a smile, "Let me help you."
"No, I'm almost done."
Jie Jun was silent at the side for a moment before he whispered, "Actually, there are some things that a bystander like me shouldn't interfere in, but I also feel like I can't bear it if I don't tell you."
"Um?"
"Everyone can see you and Lan Jie, but I don't know if he told you."
"What?"
"His parents have already arranged a marriage for him back home, and he's probably agreed. I heard they'll be going back to get married by the end of this year or early next. Of course, having one wife back home and another in the city is pretty common. But I see you have deep feelings for him, and I wonder if you'd accept this. I'm just being nosy, but I'm afraid you'll be kept in the dark. If you suddenly find out and can't accept it, it would be a huge blow."
She smiled and said, "You are so kind to me. Actually, I know that, but I still don't know what he really thinks of me. I'm afraid I don't even have the qualifications to share his affection with me."
"Why do you have to say such things? No one can't tell whether he has feelings for you or not."
Jiejun didn't feel comfortable saying much, so he chatted for a few more irrelevant words and went back to his room.
She was originally wiping the dishes, but now she held the dishes in one hand and held the cloth against the edge with the other. She remained petrified for a long, long time, until the water on her hands dried in the shade, leaving them damp and cold.
In reality, she had been prepared for this all along. She had never been someone who could be seen in public. She wasn't even considered a second wife; she had no status at all. If one had to find a connection between the two of them, it would be a mistress at best, or a temporary cohabitant at worst.
So it doesn't matter what happens to her, this is the worst that can happen to her.
But thinking about it, I still feel a little sad. I will never, ever be worthy of any respectable status. Not even the most ordinary wife or anything like that.
Everyone should have known about this before she came, but they were either afraid to get involved, as if they were trying to break her up, or they were deliberately waiting for that day to make a fool of her. Jie Jun really couldn't bear to see her being kept in the dark.
