Chapter 311
Wang Jiazhi hadn't slept all night. She went to wash up in the morning with frizzy hair. While brushing her teeth, Huang Liju, a classmate, sat beside her and said with a smile, "What's wrong with you? You've become so haggard because of her."
She was rinsing her mouth and spat out a mouthful of water, choking a little.
After cleaning up, she went to class again, her face pale and dark circles under her eyes. The classroom was empty, and she sat down at her desk, about to put her things in the desk drawer, when she heard a meow. She looked over, and just then, a furry kitten's head popped up and bumped head against hers. It was a cute little calico cat, as clean as a fur ball.
She took it out and put it on her lap and said, "Where are you from?"
She saw a small, lake-green cloth bag tied to the kitten's belly. She untied it and opened it, revealing a lily-of-the-valley hairpin. It was a straight clip, a row of small white beads glued to the top, and from the bottom hung white lily-of-the-valley flowers, each with a small green crystal bead embedded in its center. There was also a piece of sky-blue letterhead with orchid prints. It read: "You left your hairpin in the library last time we met. Returning it to its original owner." The signature below read: "History Department, Class 4, Borrowed by Yi Lan." After the signature, a black kitten paw, with sharp nails, appeared.
It was English class, and her deskmate, Huang Liju, watched helplessly as she froze, her pale face suddenly flushed, transforming from a giant panda into a red one. The bell rang, and Huang Liju nudged her. When she came to her senses, Cobra had already opened the handouts and begun the lesson. She was momentarily bewildered. Her mind told her to turn to a certain page, but her hands fumbled with her hair, causing her neatly combed hair to frizz, making it resemble a red panda's ears, only making the resemblance even more striking.
When she calmed down, the little calico cat had disappeared, leaving only the cloth bag, hairpins and letter paper on the desk.
Wang Jiazhi thought she had an excuse to ask where his dorm was. The hairpin wasn't hers at all, so she should return it.
After class that night, she went to the door of the boys' dormitory and asked him which room he lived in. The dormitory manager told her. She went to the door and knocked. It was opened by a boy she didn't recognize. She said calmly, "Excuse me, Yi Lan, can I borrow your money? I have something to return to him."
The boy said, "Their student union is going to have a meeting in conference room number four. You can go find him there." The boy wanted to say that he could wait for him, but he felt that he was the only boy in the dormitory, and it would be too abrupt for a girl to come in and wait.
"Always in meetings?" she thought to herself, and at the same time realized why she thought so.
She left the dormitory and went to the meeting room. She looked through the window on the door and saw a lot of people. The instructor seemed to be talking about something. She saw a bench in the corridor and simply sat down to wait.
She was just thinking about something, but in the end she couldn't remember what she was thinking about.
Later, the big wooden door opened and people came out. She stood up and looked at the person coming out, not wanting him to pass by. Unexpectedly, he squeezed through the crowd and came to her and said, "I'm so sorry, I saw you in there, but the teacher is giving a speech and you're not allowed to interrupt. I thought you went back first, but I didn't expect you to wait here all this time. I'm so sorry that you've been waiting here for over an hour."
"Ah, has it been that long? I really didn't notice."
He was wearing a white shirt and carrying a navy blue canvas bag on his shoulder. With a "meow", a kitten's head popped out of the bag. It was the one she saw in the morning.
Kuang Yumin just came out from inside and was stunned when he saw the two of them huddling together at the door.
Wang Jiazhi said a little awkwardly: "It's like this, this is not mine, I think you have the wrong person." Then she took out the cloth bag.
Kuang Yumin thought to himself, "What? They've already sent the token!"
The crowd of people and teachers behind were still coming out, and they were standing at the door, blocking the way.
He smiled and said, "Let's talk about it somewhere else."
"Okay~"
She also thought it was too noisy here.
Kuang Yumin watched them walk away side by side, seemingly heading towards the garden, and thought to himself, "What the hell is going on!!!"
"Don't block the road!" Kuang Yumin was bumped and quickly dodged and followed the crowd outside.
They arrived under a white rose tree. It was the peak blooming season for roses, and snow-white petals fell down one after another, covering their bodies and heads.
Wang Jiazhi took out the hairpin and said, "This is not mine."
He laughed and said, "Really? I thought it should be yours. It looks like yours."
"Where did you find it? Such a beautiful thing. Give it to the administrator. She will probably go back and look for it."
"Really?" He hesitated for a moment, then said, "I saw it in the window, and I thought of you. I felt it should be something for you, so..."
Wang Jiazhi's heart was pounding, and the little deer was about to bump its head off.
Was this a confession? It seemed similar to what she'd seen in novels and movies. But when it came to reality, it felt like Ye Gong's admiration for dragons, and she was at a loss as to what to do.
"I know this is too abrupt, but I don't know what to say, so I can only tell you the truth. I hope you don't hate it."
As he spoke, his eyes were watery and full of tenderness, like the moonlight on a lake on a quiet autumn night. Their poignant beauty evoked a sense of brokenness and pity that made Wang Jiazhi's heart melt. She felt like she was dying, as if she were seriously ill and about to collapse. The petals fell more and more, piling up on both of their bodies and heads. The kitten leaped out of the bag, one moment bounding up to him, grabbing his legs and trying to climb onto him; the next, it leaped up to her, grabbing her skirt and climbing onto her, meowing as it went.
She smiled and hugged the kitten in her arms and said, "Is this your cat?"
"Yeah, about three months old. I found it on the side of the road. It got soaked by the rain, and I thought I couldn't keep it alive."
She touched the kitten's soft and warm fur, and seemed to think that his hair must be soft and warm as well.
"Let's go, it's getting dark."
"OK."
They didn't talk much on the way, but they did chatter, forgetting their words as soon as they were finished. Under the full moon in the night sky, they walked past rose bushes, white orchid trees, white peony bushes, and beds of hostas, their feet treading on the shadows of the trees and flowers, leaving two long shadows on those shadows. As they talked, they watched the shadows on the ground stretch and shorten. People in love just love this kind of silly happiness.
When they reached the door, he whispered, "See you tomorrow then."
"OK."
He thought to himself, "Sure enough, she likes me."
Because it was different from Wang Jiazhi's plan, she was still a little confused. However, many pairs of eyes in the dormitory that she couldn't see had seen him send her back.
When she got to the dormitory, she sat at her desk in a daze. She felt like she was petrified, not having the strength to move. After an unknown amount of time, she suddenly moved.
Did this count as the beginning of a relationship? Yes, he gave her something, and even walked her back. He also told her that they would meet tomorrow, and she agreed. The plot in the novel was the beginning of a relationship.
She was so excited that she set off fireworks like a landslide or tsunami.
"Sure enough, he likes me."
Just yesterday, she'd been thinking about her ideal love, which was just out of reach. That was other people's ideal, hers was just idealized. At least for now, it was in line with her ideal. Love at first sight. You didn't even have to look for him; he'd already like you the moment he saw you, and he'd quickly find you and confess his love.
Wang Jiazhi was as happy as a kitten with its fur standing on end.
Lai Xiujin pretended to read a book, but in fact she was watching her coldly. Her expression changed rapidly, and finally she seemed to have lost her mind.
There was a small mirror on the table. Wang Jiazhi looked at herself in the mirror. Her hair was covered in white rose petals. But that wasn't the point. She was wondering why she looked so haggard and had such dark circles under her eyes.
"Ah!" she cried in her heart.
I look so ugly, he won’t think that he is not pretty enough.
That day they each returned to their dormitories, like a large, blooming rose, with petals falling from their heads and bodies as they walked, from the staircase and corridor all the way to the dormitory.
The next day in class, my roommate joked, "I don't know where you went to attract bees and butterflies yesterday, leaving petals falling all over the place."
He was just embarrassed, helpless, and had a happy silly smile.
Because of limited classrooms and teachers, some shared classes were taught by several departments. Kuang Yumin was also there today. Upon hearing what was said in the front row, he gritted his teeth and thought to himself, "He's such a loser! He's doing this for a poor girl. He's completely disgraced as a man."
