Chapter 440
It was snowing outside that day. He came back from the courtyard and found a lot of snow on his clothes and head. It was already past one o'clock. He tiptoed into the room. She and the kitten were both fast asleep. He quietly left and went to work in the study.
It was not until three o'clock that he took out the biscuit box and heard a creak. The door opened quietly and she poked her head in like a kitten.
"Why are you awake?"
"I woke up after a nap." She sat on his legs and clung to him completely. She was even more clingy than before.
"Let me cook for you, don't eat this."
She took out a cookie and took a bite like a rabbit, then went out to cook without waiting for him to say anything.
If he comes back too late, he won't call the cook to cook.
She cooked noodles for him and shaped carrots into flower shapes. He ate half and couldn't finish any more, so she took the bowl and ate the rest. She only had breakfast today; if he didn't come home, she could have just one meal. They both ate the hot food and felt much warmer, even though the house wasn't cold at all.
She leaned against his chest, the lamp shining on them, casting shadows on the wall. Wang Jiazhi was transported back to the corridor where she was reviewing for the final exam. Neither of them spoke, listening to the patter of snowflakes falling outside.
They returned to the room and just lay down when the kitten woke up and sat up in its crib.
"Why did you wake up?"
He went over and carried the kitten to the big bed.
The three of them looked out the window, but it was too dark and the curtains were drawn, so they couldn't see anything.
He suddenly said, "Let's go out and see the snow."
They smiled as they dressed the kitten in clothes and put on a hat, then went out to see the snow together.
It was snowing really heavily tonight. It had been many years since we had seen such heavy snow in the south. Soon their heads and bodies were covered in white.
The kitten wiped the snow off his father's head with his little paws and said with a smile, "Daddy, kitten."
The warm yellow night lights in the yard were on, casting a wide warm yellow edge on them and leaving three long shadows on the ground.
When she got home, she brushed off the snow on his head and body, and the three of them snuggled into the quilt. She also brought in a few snowflakes, which melted on his body and made him feel cool.
The magpie nest on the balcony was covered with snow. Their children had grown up and they had left long ago.
The kitten looked at the balcony and asked, "Where's Xiaoxi?"
"They will be back next year," he said.
If we can get wet in the snow together one day, we can grow old together in this life.
