Chapter 47
When preparing to rehearse "Tess", Wang Jiazhi suggested using newcomers to perform the role. She used the excuse that she was too tired and wanted to just write the script and temporarily step back.
Everyone in the club knew that she was capable and she definitely didn't refuse to act because she was tired.
Everyone was against her not playing the female lead. She and Zhou Minlin were already famous, and people mostly came for them. A change in cast would surely result in lower attendance. Furthermore, the heroine in this story is tragically beautiful. While it's not hard to find prettier women, her inherently pure, beautiful, and broken quality is hard to replicate.
It's a wonder how Wang Jiazhi's story came about. She seems like a character who should live in a book.
Wang Jiazhi thought about it and smiled, "Okay, I'll continue acting."
"That's right. If you need any help, we're here to help. I think you might have had this idea because of something else."
Wang Jiazhi said, "You did notice it, but you just thought this story was too..."
This story always reminded her of her final death. Writing this script was the most difficult time for her. It wasn't fear, but a deep, piercing sadness.
Zhou Minlin said: "If you really don't want to act, just take a break and don't force yourself."
Wang Jiazhi smiled and said, "Everyone is right. Now is not the time to back out. That would be too irresponsible of me. I just remembered some things from the past. Now that I have figured it out, I'll still act."
Zhou Minlin said: "I think you must have a story, but you just can't tell it to others. But it's good that you are like this. We are young, and everything will pass. You will definitely be happy."
Young, yes, she was still so young. But she felt that she had gone through so many vicissitudes of life, and sometimes she wondered if she was already a hundred years old.
I am only twenty years old, but I have already begun to unconsciously review my life.
Because of the popularity of the drama, Wang Jiazhi's suitors flocked to her again.
Wang Jiazhi attends classes during the day, rehearses at night, and stays up late to write scripts. It is already hard enough, but she is also bothered by these things.
She sat in the corridor, pondering over the script, and couldn't help sighing.
I thought to myself, “What a boring person.”
Men don't think about careers or academics, they just mess around with these boring things. She doesn't believe these people really like her. She's like a flower on a cliff, not the most beautiful among all the flowers, but just in a special situation. Whoever can pick it is something worth showing off.
One day, she came back from rehearsal at the drama club and was drying her hair after washing it when Huang Liju came over and said, "You're back. I have something to ask of you."
Wang Jiazhi, a kitten with frizzy hair, saw that she was holding cakes and snacks, so she must have something to ask for. And judging by the value of the gift, it must be quite a big deal.
Huang Liju said, "I know this is a bit abrupt, but... could I... join your drama club? If not, I can just play a role."
There were four girls in the drama club, and of course not all of them performed on stage. However, after so long, the main roles had been played by a fixed number of people. Huang Liju said that just being on stage was enough, and of course she couldn't be given a supporting role; she had to play a role of some substance. But regardless of Huang Liju's acting skills, inserting her would inevitably squeeze out someone else, and how could that person not complain?
Wang Jiazhi did not hide anything and told her the dilemma.
Huang Liju said, "I know this, so it's hard for me to say it." Then he changed his tone and said, "It's okay to just make a cameo appearance. Just give me a chance to show up."
Xiao Shuang asked in confusion, "I've never heard you were interested in dialogue drama before, why suddenly?"
Huang Liju said, "I see you guys are having so much fun, I want to do it too."
Wang Jiazhi said, "If it's a small role, I can talk to them about it. It probably won't be a problem. But are you sure it's just a small role? If it's anything else, I really can't make the decision."
Huang Liju nodded. But Wang Jiazhi felt that it was definitely not that simple.
Sure enough, a few days later, the woman who was originally supposed to play Angel's fiancée approached Wang Jiazhi and Zhou Minlin and said, "I think we should give this role to Huang Liju. She seems really eager to play it, so I'll just take it as a favor."
Zhou Minlin said: "If you are willing, everyone will respect your idea, but I am afraid that she will not be able to perform as well as you."
So it was agreed that Huangliju would not be considered a member of the club, but would participate in the performance.
Later, Wang Jiazhi found out that Huang Liju had given her a piece of very expensive fabric and begged her to give the role to her.
Huang Liju was incredibly hardworking. She borrowed the original novel and stayed up all night reading it twice. By the first rehearsal, she had memorized her lines by heart. She also kept buying snacks and drinks for everyone, making everyone feel embarrassed and asking her to stop. But she still bought a lot of things, and no one could refuse to accept them.
Wang Jiazhi thought to herself, "It's only less than ten lines. There's really no need to work so hard."
Zhou Minlin whispered, "What exactly is her reason? You girls are always more informed."
Wang Jiazhi said, "I don't know, but seeing how hard she works, forgetting to eat and sleep, I can guess."
Zhou Minlin sighed, "A man's love can be undone, but a woman's love cannot be undone!"
Everyone in the company watched her diligently pondering the less than ten lines of dialogue, and sighed silently in their hearts.
