Chapter 77

Chapter 77

The war broke out and the school was no longer habitable. Those who had relatives in the local area fled there, and those who could not leave were placed in shelters.

There are students here who have nowhere to go, so there is no shortage of places. Xiaoshuang still lives in the same room with Wang Jiazhi.

There is a shortage of food and even water.

Xiaoshuang and Wang Jiazhi were chewing on biscuits. Soda biscuits made a lot of noise when chewed, so they didn't even dare to make too much noise when eating them, for fear that someone would steal their food.

Xiaoshuang took a sip of water from the enamel cup. The biscuits were too dry. Each person only had one small thermos of water per day.

Xiao Shuang whispered, "Thank goodness you stocked up on so many things, otherwise we would be in a much worse situation."

Wang Jiazhi said, "There's just no way to store water."

They haven't washed their faces or hair for many days, and now they don't even dare to look in the mirror.

Xiao Shuang said, "That's already very good. If you keep reading the I Ching, you might be able to tell fortunes."

Wang Jiazhi laughed and said, "No way."

Some people have run out of food. Food is scarce now, and even with money it's hard to buy.

A few days ago, a plane came here and the people in the building ran out for fear of bombs. She and Xiaoshuang ran out and were almost killed in the explosion.

Wang Jiazhi thought that it didn't matter if she died, but if Xiaoshuang died, her parents and Wen Runze would be so sad.

Wen Runze also lived here. He had gone out to help with some errands that day. When he came back and heard that Xiaoshuang had nearly gotten into trouble, he hugged her tightly and wouldn't let go. It was like surviving a disaster, a lingering fear of having lost something and then found it again.

Zhou Minlin stayed at a friend's house, returning once or twice to bring some food to them. They quietly told him they had some food left and asked him to share some with other students. But he insisted on leaving some for them.

Someone came and asked if anyone was willing to go to the first aid station and give them some food.

Wang Jiazhi and Xiaoshuang both signed up. Before leaving, Xiaoshuang left some food for Wen Runze, and the two said goodbye reluctantly.

The church was used as a first aid station for the dying, where not only the wounded from the battlefield but also the homeless and injured came to live.

Only a few people had beds, and the rest were lying all over the floor, leaving only a very narrow aisle.

Xiaoshuang was originally afraid of going to the hospital because of the blood. There were bloody wounded people everywhere, many with broken arms and legs. Xiaoshuang was so scared that she was shaking, but she soon gathered her courage. After a few days, she was no longer afraid and was able to bravely change the bandages.

At night, a space is enclosed with a screen, and two folding beds are placed inside for the person on duty, with one person in charge of each side.

There was a man who was seriously injured. He could only get through the day and asked people to give him water every night, which made it impossible for him to sleep.

In fact, he didn't want to drink water, but was afraid of death. So he always asked people to come to his side to comfort him.

Everyone hated him, even the other wounded soldiers who were annoyed by his noise and kept them awake. Later, the guards on duty were too lazy to go back and forth to give him water.

The only exception was Wang Jiazhi. It was not her duty, and when she heard someone calling inside and no one was paying attention, she went out to see what was going on.

Others said, "You are so kind-hearted."

Wang Jiazhi shook her head and smiled, "No, I just heard someone complaining about a headache." At the same time, she thought to herself, "I'm atonement."

Later, that person finally died, and everyone else felt relieved that a troublesome matter had been resolved.

Late at night, Wang Jiazhi held a lamp in her hand and saw wounded soldiers groaning and wailing on the ground, their lives approaching death.

She thought to herself, "What are you thinking when you see this scene?"

If he couldn't be a good person, it would be better to be completely bad. She believed that if he was completely bad, he wouldn't be tortured and suffering like that.
