Three months later, the Pingyang Palace was decorated with lights and was filled with joy.
The high-pitched and festive suona sounds, mixed with the guests' laughter and blessings, reached our ears one by one.
"Bow to Heaven and Earth——"
As the host's long and loud voice sounded, Song Zhe and Chen Xiaoru, dressed in bright red wedding dresses, slowly turned around, faced the heaven and earth, and bowed deeply.
"Two bows to the parents—"
The two turned to the high-seated Prince Pingyang and Princess Pingyang, as well as Mother Song, and bowed again, respectfully bowing. Mother Song Zhe's eyes moistened, but a pleased smile rose at the corners of her mouth, and she nodded repeatedly.
"Husband and wife bow to each other—"
Song Zhe and Chen Xiaoru stood facing each other, their eyes locked with deep affection. They slowly bent down and lightly touched their foreheads.
"Send her to the bridal chamber—"
"The ceremony is over——"
As the master of ceremonies spoke, the sound of firecrackers and cheers filled the air. Supported by her bridesmaid, Chen Xiaoru, covered with a red veil, walked gently towards the bridal chamber. Song Zhe, surrounded by enthusiastic guests, wore a beaming smile as he returned each greeting, his eyes etched with unconcealed joy.
Not long after, Mrs. Zhang came in with a tray and a smile on her face.
"Master, my son-in-law specifically ordered some food to be brought to you." She placed a tray on the table, on which were several exquisite snacks and a bowl of hot soup.
"Well, you go out first!" Chen Xiaoru said softly, with a hint of fatigue in her voice.
Mrs. Zhang withdrew, carefully closing the door. Chen Xiaoru eagerly lifted her veil, breathed a sigh of relief, and rubbed her stiff neck. She sat at the table, gazing at the delicate dim sum and steaming soup, a flicker of satisfaction in her eyes.
She was very hungry today. She had to get up before dawn, dress up, and go through the complicated rituals. She hasn't had a drop of water or a grain of rice until now.
For the past few months, Chen Xiaoru had been living in dire straits. Song Zhe, seemingly determined to make up for what she had lost, lingered night after night, leaving her miserable. She couldn't get out of bed until noon. Finally, unable to bear it any longer, she secretly took a pill to conceive, secretly anticipating Song Zhe's amusing expression.
She picked up a piece of osmanthus cake and took a light bite. The sweet taste spread in her mouth, temporarily alleviating her hunger. She drank a few more sips of hot soup, and the warmth slid down her throat into her stomach, making her relax completely.
After finishing all the food on the table, Chen Xiaoru burped contentedly, put on her veil again, and waited quietly for Song Zhe to arrive.
The flickering red candles in the room illuminated her gorgeous wedding gown, adding to the festive atmosphere. However, beneath this joy, Chen Xiaoru concealed a hint of cunning. She quietly listened to the noises outside, figuring that Song Zhe had almost finished his socializing. Sure enough, not long after, footsteps were heard outside the door, approaching from afar and finally stopping outside.
With a creak, the door opened, and Song Zhe walked in, a bit tipsy. He was wearing a bright red wedding gown, which only accentuated his tall and handsome figure. He waved away the servants, closed the door behind him, and walked towards Chen Xiaoru.
"Xiao Ru, sorry for the long wait." Song Zhe's voice was low and gentle, with a hint of imperceptible expectation.
He walked over to Chen Xiaoru, picked up the scale on the table, and, in accordance with etiquette, gently lifted the veil. The veil slipped away, revealing Chen Xiaoru's charming face. She had put on makeup today, looking even more radiant and charming than usual, and Song Zhe's heart fluttered.
"Xiao Ru, you are so beautiful." Song Zhe exclaimed sincerely.
Chen Xiaoru raised her head and said coquettishly, "My husband only knows how to coax people."
Song Zhe chuckled. He picked up the wine jug on the table, poured two glasses of wine, and handed one to Chen Xiaoru. "Come, Xiaoru, let's drink the wedding wine."
Chen Xiaoru took the wine glass, linked her arms with Song Zhe's, and drank the wine in the glass. The wine entered her throat with a hint of spiciness, but also a hint of sweetness.
After drinking the wedding wine, Song Zhe could no longer suppress his inner excitement. He threw Chen Xiaoru onto the bed, leaned over and kissed her, and they tossed and turned passionately.
"Xiao Ru, I finally married you again." Song Zhe whispered in her ear, his voice full of affection and joy. He leaned over again, wanting to kiss her more deeply.
This time, Chen Xiaoru reached out to stop him. "Husband, I'm pregnant!" she whispered, a hint of shyness and anticipation in her tone.
This news was like thunder, instantly shattering Song Zhe's desire.
"Xiao Ru, what did you say?" He suddenly raised his head and asked in disbelief, his voice trembling.
"I said, I'm pregnant, so tonight..." Chen Xiaoru repeated with a hint of cunning in her tone.
"Really? How long has it been?" Song Zhe asked, with surprise and worry in his eyes.
Chen Xiaoru replied softly: "About a month."
Upon hearing this, Song Zhe immediately got off Chen Xiaoru and hugged her tightly in his arms, with such strength that he seemed to want to rub her into his body.
"I won't miss you this time, Xiaoru. Thank you," he said excitedly, his voice choking and his eyes moist. Song Zhe felt guilty for not spending enough time with Chen Xiaoru during those four years, and for not being there when Song Siming was born.
"Husband, as long as you are happy." Chen Xiaoru said softly, feeling secretly proud in her heart.
"Husband, please get up first. My face doesn't feel well and I want to wash it." Chen Xiaoru was a little breathless from being held by him. She gently pushed him away and changed the subject.
