Zhou Yuxuan immediately fell silent and closed his mouth in grievance, like a large dog with drooping ears after being scolded by its owner.
Chen Xiaoru ignored him and, following the original owner's memory, used the key to open the villa's door. The two of them walked into the villa, one in front and one behind, their steps light and cautious.
Chen Xiaoru recalled the original owner's memory. At this time in the past, the garden of the villa should have been bustling with servants, and birds chirping on the branches, full of vitality.
But now, the garden was deserted and all was quiet, with only the rustling of leaves in the wind adding a touch of weirdness.
"strangeness……"
Chen Xiaoru frowned, a strong sense of unease rising in her heart. She turned to look at Zhou Yuxuan and said in a low voice:
"Zhou Yuxuan, something is wrong here..."
Zhou Yuxuan also noticed something was wrong. He held the tube tightly in his right hand, his eyes sharp as he scanned the surroundings vigilantly. His voice was low and powerful:
"Something is wrong. It's so quiet here that it's unsettling. We need to be careful. We might be in danger."
"Well, be careful."
Chen Xiaoru nodded, took a deep breath, suppressed the uneasiness in her heart, and continued to move forward. Every step was like stepping on cotton, so light that there was almost no sound.
Just as the two were about to reach the door of the villa hall, Chen Xiaoru suddenly felt an inexplicable palpitation. She turned around abruptly and saw a rotten zombie appearing silently behind Zhou Yuxuan, opening its bloody mouth, revealing its sharp teeth, and suddenly pounced on him!
"Zhou Yuxuan, be careful behind you!"
Chen Xiaoru's pupils suddenly shrank and she let out a scream. She didn't have time to think about it. Her body reacted faster than her brain. She rushed forward and pulled Zhou Yuxuan behind her.
At the same time, the frying pan in her hand smashed hard on the zombie's head with a whistling sound. With a dull "bang", the zombie's head exploded like a watermelon, and red and white things splattered all over the ground. Its huge body fell to the ground with a bang, twitched a few times, and then became motionless.
Chen Xiaoru was still in shock, her chest heaving violently. She tightly grasped Zhou Yuxuan's arm, her fingertips turning white from the force, and asked in a trembling voice:
"Zhou Yuxuan, are you okay? Are you hurt? It seems that my parents have already... Let's leave here first."
"I'm fine, let's go." Zhou Yuxuan shook his head, his face pale and his voice a little tense. He held Chen Xiaoru's hand with his backhand and pulled her out quickly.
The two men didn't dare to delay and ran out of the villa quickly and jumped into the car. Zhou Yuxuan stepped on the accelerator to the bottom. The car roared like a beast and rushed out like an arrow, leaving the villa filled with the smell of blood far behind.
Chen Xiaoru sat in the passenger seat. The scenery outside the car window was rapidly receding, but her thoughts drifted far away.
Scenes flashed through my mind, those were the warm and beautiful moments that the original owner spent with his parents.
She saw the little original owner, with her adorable pigtails, riding on her father's broad shoulders, letting out a clear laugh; she saw her mother guarding her bedside when she was sick, carefully feeding her medicine, her eyes filled with heartache; she saw the original owner's college entrance examination, the family of three hugging each other tightly at the school gate, their faces filled with happy smiles...
These images, like old movie films, have a yellowed tint but are exceptionally clear, and every detail touches Chen Xiaoru's heart.
She could feel the original owner's deep attachment and love for her parents, as well as the pain and despair of losing her loved ones.
The car sped along the empty street. Chen Xiaoru's eyes were slightly red. She pursed her lips tightly, trying not to let her emotions get out of control.
"Wife, what's wrong with you?"
Zhou Yuxuan asked with concern while driving, with a hint of worry in his tone, "Are you feeling unwell?"
Chen Xiaoru shook her head, her voice a little hoarse: "I'm fine, it's just... I suddenly thought of my parents."
Zhou Yuxuan was silent for a moment, then sighed softly: "Don't be sad, uncle and aunt must still be alive. Let's go and ask around when we have a chance."
"Yeah." Chen Xiaoru responded softly, turned her head to the window and stopped talking.
Zhou Yuxuan and Chen Xiaoru returned to the house where they lived in the school before. As soon as they stepped into the door, Zhou Yuxuan hugged Chen Xiaoru tightly in his arms.
"Wife, you still have me in the future, don't be sad, and besides, didn't we see your parents? Maybe they are still alive!"
Zhou Yuxuan comforted her softly, his voice full of heartache.
Chen Xiaoru leaned on his chest and hummed muffledly as a response.
Zhou Yuxuan hugged her tighter, as if he wanted to rub her into his body and give her all the warmth and strength.
"Yuxuan, I'm hungry." Chen Xiaoru's voice was a little tired and hoarse.
"Okay, I'll go make you something delicious, just wait a moment." Zhou Yuxuan said gently, loosened his arms, turned and walked towards the kitchen.
For the next few days, Chen Xiaoru and Zhou Yuxuan tacitly stayed home. The weather had become increasingly abnormal, with temperatures so high it felt like summer had arrived early.
"Yuxuan, have you noticed that the weather has been a little strange these days? It's only spring, but the temperature... is too high." Chen Xiaoru snuggled up to Zhou Yuxuan and said softly, with a hint of worry between her brows.
"Well, it's definitely not normal."
Zhou Yuxuan put his arm around her shoulders, lost in thought. He knew that after this abnormally high temperature, there would be a crimson rainstorm, a feast for the zombies.
