"The more I think about it, the more upset I get. I'm done. Let's go to sleep!" Chen Xiaoru turned over, wrapped herself tightly in the quilt, and closed her eyes. But her mind was a mess, like a pot of boiling porridge, and she couldn't calm down.
At this time, Zhou Si walked in quietly from outside. He glanced at Chen Xiaoru on the bed, hesitated for a moment, walked silently to the corner, curled up, and lay directly on the cold ground, ready to sleep.
Although Chen Xiaoru had her eyes closed, she was keenly aware of Zhou Si's movements. She suddenly opened her eyes, her heart skipping a beat, and she was about to collapse.
What era is this? Still sleeping on the floor? Does Zhou Si treat herself like a maid, or like air? Even the maids in ancient times wouldn't be so miserable! Besides, it's autumn now, and it's still a bit cold at night. How will she survive in winter...?
"Destroy it! There's no hope!" Chen Xiaoru wailed inwardly. She now seriously suspected that the original owner had trampled this young man's pride into the mud.
"Zhou Si, come here!" Chen Xiaoru sat up and shouted in a bad tone.
Zhou Si stiffened noticeably when he heard the voice, like a frightened animal. He slowly stood up, lowered his head, and inched towards the bed. His voice was as soft as a mosquito's: "What's going on?"
That cautious look made Chen Xiaoru feel even more uncomfortable. She suppressed her irritation and tried to sound calmer: "Take off your clothes."
Zhou Si jerked his head up, a flicker of fear and humiliation in his eyes. He bit his lip tightly, his hands unconsciously clenched around the corners of his clothes, and his body trembled slightly. He didn't know how Chen Xiaoru was going to torture him next.
Chen Xiaoru looked at him like this and became even more angry. What the hell was going on? I just asked him to take off his clothes, and he was so scared!
"What? You don't understand me? Or do you want me to do it myself?" Chen Xiaoru deliberately frowned and said in a more serious tone. She wanted to see how long Zhou Si could drag his feet.
Zhou Si's face turned pale in an instant, with shame and unwillingness intertwined in his eyes. In the end, he closed his eyes resignedly, and with trembling hands, he began to slowly unbutton his coat.
Chen Xiaoru watched his slow movements, her heart raging with anger. This wasn't even taking off clothes; it was slower than a turtle crawling!
"Why are you dawdling? Haven't you eaten yet?" Chen Xiaoru urged impatiently, "Hurry up!"
Zhou Si's movements obviously became faster, but still seemed a little clumsy.
Chen Xiaoru was getting impatient and said directly: "Come sleep in the bed and warm it for me!"
Zhou Si froze in his tracks. He slowly raised his head, his eyes filled with shock and confusion, as if he couldn't believe what he had heard.
What was she going to do? Zhou Si's heart was beating fast, like a deer running wild inside. Despite the turbulent waves in his heart, he still lay down on the inside of the bed and tucked the quilt in. However, his body was tense, like a fully drawn bowstring, not daring to relax even a little.
Chen Xiaoru didn't care what he thought, as long as he didn't leave. She closed her eyes and soon fell asleep.
She slept soundly, but Zhou Si was suffering. He kept his eyes open, not daring to move, fearing that disturbing her would bring him punishment. He carefully felt the warmth of the quilt on his body. This soft touch was something he had not experienced in a long time...
"It's so warm. It would be great if it could always be like this," Zhou Si murmured.
Since he was sold to the Chen family, he slept in a cold corner every day, always covered with tattered linen. How could he have such a good quilt like now?
But even so, Zhou Si still couldn't fall asleep. His mind was full of thoughts: Why was Chen Xiaoru suddenly so nice to him? Could it be...she had come up with some new way to torture him?
Thinking of this, Zhou Si's heart sank again. He closed his eyes tightly, trying to drive those terrible thoughts out of his mind.
After an unknown amount of time, Chen Xiaoru turned over and her arm accidentally rested on Zhou Si. Zhou Si's body instantly stiffened, and he held his breath, not daring to even breathe.
Chen Xiaoru seemed to feel a little hot and kicked the quilt away a little. Zhou Si hesitated for a moment, but still gently pulled the quilt back and covered her with it.
After doing all this, Zhou Si finally breathed a sigh of relief. He looked at Chen Xiaoru's sleeping face, and a complex emotion surged in his heart.
She... was actually quite pretty. Her eyebrows and eyes were picturesque, her skin was as white as snow. When she was asleep, she looked like a child who knew nothing about the world, completely devoid of her usual fierce look.
Zhou Si was lost in thought, not until Chen Xiaoru turned over again did he snap back to reality. He quickly closed his eyes and pretended to be asleep.
But his heart could no longer calm down.
He didn't know what Chen Xiaoru wanted to do, nor did he know what he should do. He only knew that he was in a very confused mood.
He wanted to escape from here, but was afraid to return to that cold world. He longed for warmth, but was afraid that this warmth was only a temporary illusion.
The next day, Chen Xiaoru slept until she woke up naturally. She stretched and felt relaxed. She sat up slowly and rubbed her sleepy eyes. Only then did she realize that the bed was empty. She was the only one left.
"Where are the people? Where did they go?" Chen Xiaoru muttered, grabbed her clothes and put them on, then walked out in her slippers.
As soon as she stepped out of the door, she was greeted by an empty yard, not even a ghost in sight. Chen Xiaoru was somewhat baffled by the fact that her mother and Zhou Si had disappeared early in the morning.
"Forget it, let's ignore them." Chen Xiaoru shrugged and walked straight to the kitchen.
