the next day
Chen Xiaoru got up in the morning, ate a few mouthfuls of food in a hurry, and remembered that she had to buy some cloth to make a new set of clothes for Zhou Si.
She raised her head and said to Zhou Si, who was quietly clearing the dishes, "Zhou Si, accompany me to the town later."
As soon as the words fell, the room became quiet.
Both Chen's father and mother looked at Chen Xiaoru with strange eyes, as if they had seen something incredible.
Chen Xiaoru felt uneasy being stared at, and blinked in confusion: "What's wrong? Did I say something wrong?"
Chen Laizi cleared his throat and asked tentatively, "Xiao Ru, you... you really want to take Zhou Si to town?"
Mother Chen couldn't help but agree: "Yes, my daughter, you weren't... weren't..." She hesitated and was embarrassed to finish her words.
"Nothing?" Chen Xiaoru was even more confused. Why were these two people acting so weird today?
Chen Laizi simply made it clear: "Didn't you dislike Zhou Si before... well, you were afraid that he would embarrass you in town, so you never took him out?"
Chen Xiaoru suddenly realized that the whole fuss was because of this! She rolled her eyes inwardly. What a lousy habit the original owner had!
She cleared her throat and pretended to be nonchalant: "Hey, that was then, and this is now! Besides, I want to take him around town. What's the problem?"
Chen's father and mother looked at each other, their eyes full of doubts, "Is this still my daughter?"
Zhou Si also raised his head and looked at Chen Xiaoru, his eyes moving slightly, as if he was a little surprised and a little curious. He didn't say anything, quietly cleared the dishes, and followed Chen Xiaoru.
When they arrived in town, Chen Xiaoru took Zhou Si straight to the tailor shop.
When the shopkeeper saw that it was Chen Xiaoru, a trace of fear flashed across his face. After all, her reputation in this town... was not really good.
Chen Xiaoru didn't care about these things. She turned to look at Zhou Si and said in a light tone, "Zhou Si, please help me pick out some cloth. I want to make some new clothes, but I'm not very good at choosing."
Zhou Si looked at Chen Xiaoru with confusion in his eyes. What was Chen Xiaoru going to do next?
Although Zhou Si didn't know what Chen Xiaoru wanted to do, he still obediently chose a few pieces of cloth, all of which were chosen according to Chen Xiaoru's favorite colors.
Chen Xiaoru looked at the fabric chosen by Zhou Si and had to say that this man's choice was quite to her liking. She nodded with satisfaction.
The shopkeeper looked at Chen Xiaoru's satisfied expression and breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that this evil spirit finally didn't cause any trouble.
"That's all, boss, can you help me calculate the price?" Chen Xiaoru looked at the five pieces of cloth she had selected, all of which were linen and cotton.
The shopkeeper immediately calculated the price and told us the price.
Chen Xiaoru paid the money reluctantly and left with Zhou Si.
She brought Zhou Si to the bookstore. Chen Xiaoru didn't know much about pens, inkstones, and paper, so she simply asked the clerk to recommend a few items. Seeing the huge pile of things she had packed, she nodded with satisfaction.
After leaving the bookstore, the two headed straight for the vegetable market. Chen Xiaoru carefully selected a piece of meat, a few large bones, and also picked up a few fresh radishes.
"Zhou Si, take these things and go back first." Chen Xiaoru stuffed everything in her hand into Zhou Si's hands and instructed: "Come home for lunch and ask my mother to make something delicious, stewed meat and radish, with plenty of oil and water. Oh, and see if there are any extra quilts at home. Take out my quilt and dry it in the sun, or change the quilt cover and wash it, it's all rotten."
Zhou Si silently took the things. They were heavy, weighing heavily on his heart. Ever since Chen Xiaoru had asked him to come to town, he had been on edge, fearing that Chen Xiaoru would sell him out. He followed Chen Xiaoru cautiously, glancing around, wondering which way to go if things went wrong.
Who knew that Chen Xiaoru actually just brought him here to buy things.
He replied softly, "Yeah." There was a barely perceptible tremor in his voice.
Chen Xiaoru watched Zhou Si leave with a playful smile on her face. This man is too timid.
When Zhou Si's figure disappeared in the crowd, the smile on Chen Xiaoru's face disappeared instantly. She turned around and walked towards the only gambling house in the town with a step that didn't recognize anyone.
At the entrance of the gambling house, two thugs guarding the door were yawning out of boredom.
Chen Xiaoru walked into the gambling house with big, steady strides, as if it were her own backyard. The two thugs at the door had long heard of Chen Xiaoru's "renowned reputation," and seeing her approaching with such momentum, their hearts immediately began to beat fast.
The two looked at each other and saw fear in each other's eyes.
"Why... why is this lady here? Is she... isn't she here to cause trouble?" A gangster's voice trembled, and cold sweat began to appear on his forehead.
The other thug wasn't much better. He swallowed his saliva with forced composure and stammered, "Shouldn't...shouldn't it be? Didn't the...boss say...she...she's become more restrained recently?"
"Constrain yourself? Do you believe it? I heard she stole a pig from Butcher Li's house just two days ago, just because the pig looked at her a little too much!"
"Hiss... So brutal? Then... What should we do? Should we go inform the boss?"
"Nonsense! Of course I have to... Hey, hey, hey, auntie, you... you want to go in?"
Chen Xiaoru walked to the door and was stopped by two thugs. She raised her eyebrows and swept her eyes over them like knives: "Why, I, Chen Xiaoru, can't enter your gambling house?"
The two thugs were frightened by Chen Xiaoru's momentum and trembled. They waved their hands quickly: "No, no, no, you misunderstood. Of course you can come in! Please come in, please come in!"
The two men nodded and bowed, and quickly made way. Their fawning appearance made them look like two pugs wagging their tails and begging for mercy.
Chen Xiaoru snorted coldly and walked into the gambling house with a ruthless step.
After the people went in, one of the gangsters immediately went to report to the boss, not daring to stop for a moment.
The gambling house was bustling with activity, with shouts, the sounds of dice, and the clinking of coins all mixed together, and the air was filled with the smell of sweat and cheap tobacco.
Chen Xiaoru was already used to all this. She walked straight to a gambling table, sat down, and threw the purse in her hand onto the table with a dull sound.
"Come on, come on, the market's open! Buy now and don't hesitate!"
When the gamblers around saw Chen Xiaoru, they subconsciously shrank back, fearing that they would be targeted by this evil star.
Chen Xiaoru didn't care about all this. She threw a tael of silver without blinking and directly threw it on the word "big".
"I bet big!"
Why is Chen Xiaoru so confident in buying big?
Of course it’s not because she has any special abilities, but because she has the system’s support.
The system told her to go big, and she did, simply and without hesitation. She knew nothing about gambling; she wouldn't even touch mahjong, let alone roll the dice. But so what? With the system, she was like the God of Gamblers, able to win with her eyes closed!
Chen Xiaoru came to the gambling house today not to satisfy her gambling addiction, but her real purpose was to pay off her debt, the gambling debt to Chen Laizi.
