On the other side
Zhou Dazhui and Song Chunhua entered the house one after another. The room was dark and filled with a musty smell.
"Bang!" Zhou Dazhu slammed the table so hard that the broken bowls on the table jumped.
"It's all your fault! You insisted on going! Now you're completely embarrassed! Are you satisfied?!" Zhou Dazhu stared at Song Chunhua with red eyes.
Song Chunhua wasn't to be outdone. She put her hands on her hips and shrilled back, "How should I know that ungrateful Zhou Si would really turn his back on me?! If it weren't for me, would he have had food to eat?"
"You still dare to bring up the past?! If you hadn't sold him out, would we have ended up like this?!" Zhou Dazhu became angrier and angrier as he spoke, his voice cracking.
"I..." Song Chunhua's momentum weakened, but she still insisted, "I am doing this for this family! Do you think I want to do this?"
As she said this, Song Chunhua sat down on the stool, covered her face and started crying.
Zhou Dazhui became even more annoyed when he saw her like that. He kicked over the stool next to him, making a loud "clang".
He was feeling angry but had no place to vent, and he just felt that his life was very frustrating.
The celebration after the renovation of the ancestral hall was held as scheduled. The matter between Zhou Dazhu and Song Chunhua had no impact on the Chen family.
The next day, the sun was shining brightly.
"Let's go to the ancestral hall!" Chen Xiaoru greeted with a smile, holding a baby in each hand.
Zhou Si also held one in his arms and followed Chen Xiaoru, a happy smile on his face.
Chen's mother and Chen Laizi each held one child and walked happily in front.
A group of people walked towards the ancestral hall in a lively manner.
"Oh my, this ancestral hall is so magnificent!"
"That's right, it's much more impressive than before!"
"This is all thanks to Xiaoru and Zhou Si!"
When we arrived at the ancestral hall, the villagers had already gathered there, chatting with each other, and it was very lively.
Chen Xiaoru held her child and listened to everyone's praise. She felt happy and her face was full of smiles.
Zhou Si stood beside her, looking at her bright smile, and his heart softened.
The ancestral hall was filled with the smell of incense and the atmosphere was solemn.
The elders of the Chen family had already taken their seats, ready to preside over the ancestor worship ceremony.
"Xiao Ru, you are here. Come on, bring the children over to worship our ancestors." Mother Chen greeted with a smile.
Chen Xiaoru and Zhou Si carried the child, walked to the altar, burned incense respectfully and kowtowed.
"Ancestors, please bless us, the Chen family, and let our descendants prosper and live in peace." Chen Xiaoru prayed softly.
Zhou Si also prayed silently, hoping that his family would always be happy and healthy.
After the ancestor worship ceremony, there is a lively banquet.
The open space outside the ancestral hall was filled with tables and chairs. The villagers sat around it, eating sumptuous dishes, drinking sweet rice wine, and laughing happily.
"Xiao Ru, Zhou Si, come and sit here!" Chen Laizi called them.
Chen Xiaoru and Zhou Si walked over with the child and sat down next to Chen Laizi and Chen's mother.
"Xiao Ru, you and Zhou Si have made great contributions to the renovation of the ancestral hall this time!" said the aunt at the next table with a smile.
"Yes, Xiaoru, you are really the pride of our Chen family!" another uncle also echoed.
Chen Xiaoru felt a little embarrassed by the praise and quickly waved her hands: "Aunt, uncle, please don't say that. This is the result of everyone's hard work."
"Haha, Xiaoru is so humble!"
Everyone was praising the product one after another, and the atmosphere was very lively.
Zhou Si looked at Chen Xiaoru with gentle eyes. He knew that Chen Xiaoru had always wanted to be recognized by everyone, and now, she finally did it.
"Come, Xiaoru, eat some vegetables." Zhou Si picked up a piece of meat and put it in Chen Xiaoru's bowl.
"Yeah." Chen Xiaoru nodded with a smile, feeling sweet in her heart.
During the banquet, the elder of the Chen family walked up to Chen Xiaoru and Zhou Si.
"Xiao Ru, Zhou Si, you have made an invaluable contribution to the successful renovation of the ancestral hall. On behalf of the Chen family, I would like to toast you!" said the clan elder, holding up his glass.
Chen Xiaoru and Zhou Si quickly stood up and picked up their wine glasses.
"Elder, you are too polite. This is what we should do," said Chen Xiaoru.
"Good, good boy!" The elder smiled and nodded, then drank it all in one gulp.
Chen Xiaoru and Zhou Si also drank.
After three rounds of wine and five dishes, everyone's spirits were high.
"Xiao Ru, I heard that you opened a new shop?" asked an aunt.
"Yes, auntie, it's in town, selling some daily necessities." Chen Xiaoru replied with a smile.
"Oh, Xiaoru is so capable! From now on, I will go to your place to buy things!"
"Okay, Auntie, I'll give you a discount then!"
Everyone talked about Chen Xiaoru's new shop again and praised her highly.
Chen Xiaoru felt happy listening to everyone's praise and was full of confidence in her future life.
Zhou Si looked at her with eyes full of doting. He knew that Chen Xiaoru would get better and better, and their lives would become happier and happier.
The sun was setting and the banquet was coming to an end.
The villagers dispersed one after another, and peace returned to the outside of the ancestral hall.
Chen Xiaoru and Zhou Si took the children, Chen's mother, and Chen Laizi and walked home together.
"Xiaoru, I'm so happy today!" Chen's mother said with a smile.
"Yes, Mom, I'm very happy too." Chen Xiaoru said with a smile, holding her mother's arm.
"As long as you are happy." Chen Laizi said happily.
The family was chatting and laughing as they walked on their way home.
As night fell, Chen Xiaoru and Zhou Si lay side by side on the bed after taking a shower.
Zhou Si gently embraced Chen Xiaoru in his arms, resting his chin on the top of her head, and said in a low and gentle voice: "Xiaoru, thank you..."
Chen Xiaoru could feel the vibrations in his chest and the deep affection in his words. She tilted her head back slightly, stretched out a slender finger, and gently pressed it against Zhou Si's lips.
"Shh..." Chen Xiaoru's eyes were as gentle as water, with a hint of playfulness, "Silly boy, do we still need to say this between us?"
Zhou Si's Adam's apple rolled slightly, his eyes full of tenderness. He held Chen Xiaoru's fingers against his lips, placed them on his lips and kissed them lightly.
"I know... but I still want to say..." He paused, as if weighing his words, "You've done so much for this family, for me..."
Chen Xiaoru shook her head gently, buried her head in Zhou Si's chest, and listened to his strong heartbeat.
"I don't think of this as a sacrifice. Being with you and working hard for our little family... I am happy with it."
Zhou Si tightened his arms and hugged her tighter, as if he wanted to rub her into his body.
The room was quiet and cozy, with only the sounds of each other's breathing intertwined. Outside the window, moonlight filtered through the lattice, casting a silver glow on the ground.
Chen Xiaoru raised her head, looked into Zhou Si's eyes, and said seriously, "Zhou Si, we are a family. From now on, you are not allowed to say the word 'thank you' again, understand?"
Zhou Si stared at her deeply, his eyes filled with love and gratitude. Finally, he nodded, his voice low and firm: "Okay, I'll do as you say."
