Inside the house, Chen Xiaoru suddenly woke up from her sleep, with a sharp and piercing alarm sounding in her mind.
"System, what's going on? Why is there an alarm?" she asked anxiously, completely unaware of what was happening.
"Host, I must send you out of this small world immediately! The system has been hacked. In order to protect you, we must leave immediately!" The system answered anxiously. It could not understand why the main system was suddenly attacked. Now all systems must send the host out of the small world immediately.
"What will happen to this body after I'm gone?" Chen Xiaoru asked puzzledly.
"Host, don't worry. After you leave, the small world will erase your existence, as if you had never appeared." The system replied with a hint of mechanical coldness in its voice.
Chen Xiaoru's heart skipped a beat. Erasing existence? Then everything between her and Zhou Si, all the sweetness and bitterness, would cease to exist. She opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but in the end, only a faint sigh came out: "Then...can I say goodbye to Zhou Si?"
"Host, you only have one minute." The system reminded mercilessly.
One minute? Chen Xiaoru smiled bitterly. What was that enough for? Not even enough to give him a good hug. She turned her head to look at Zhou Si, who was sleeping soundly. His brows were furrowed, as if he couldn't rest even in his dreams. Chen Xiaoru caressed his brows and gently called his name, "Zhou Si, Zhou Si..."
Zhou Si slowly opened his eyes, his eyes hazy and with the laziness of just waking up: "What's wrong?"
"Zhou Si, I love you." Chen Xiaoru stared into his eyes and said seriously. She knew that this might be the last time she would say this to him.
Zhou Si's heart suddenly sank, a strong sense of unease gripping him. He had a vague feeling that something bad was about to happen. Chen Xiaoru's tone sounded too much like a farewell. He wanted to ask, but was afraid of the answer.
Chen Xiaoru didn't give him a chance to ask further questions. She knew time was running out. She held Zhou Si's face and kissed him tenderly on the lips. This kiss was filled with a farewell of reluctance and deep attachment.
"Host, you must leave!" The system's cold voice sounded again, like a death warrant.
Chen Xiaoru reluctantly let go of Zhou Si, her eyes red, and whispered, "Zhou Si, goodbye." These three words were as light as a feather, but they hit Zhou Si's heart heavily.
As soon as he finished speaking, a dazzling white light suddenly lit up and instantly swallowed Chen Xiaoru.
Zhou Si sat up abruptly, reaching out to grab something, but only caught a glimpse of nothingness. He stared, eyes wide open, as he watched Chen Xiaoru vanish before him, vanishing without a trace, as if she had never existed.
"Xiao Ru!" Zhou Si roared, his voice hoarse, filled with endless panic and despair. He looked around blankly. The room was empty, and he was the only one there. Everything that had just happened seemed like an absurd dream.
He rushed out of bed and rummaged through the closet, under the bed, in drawers... He searched every corner, but he couldn't find any trace of Chen Xiaoru. Her clothes, her shoes, everything that belonged to her, were gone, completely gone.
Zhou Si slumped to the ground, his mind blank. He pounded his head hard, trying to wake himself up from this nightmare.
But it was no use, everything was real, Chen Xiaoru really disappeared, as if she had never been there, leaving him alone to face this sudden emptiness and despair.
He suddenly remembered Chen Xiaoru's words before she left, "I love you." Was that a farewell, or... some kind of premonition? A faint glimmer of hope ignited in Zhou Si's heart. Maybe, just maybe, she would come back? He clenched his fists tightly, his nails digging deep into his flesh. He told himself he must wait, until the day she returned!
…
Chen Xiaoru opened her eyes abruptly, her vision blurry before gradually coming to a clearer focus. The ceiling was white, and the air was filled with the faint smell of disinfectant. Was this... a hospital?
She struggled to sit up, but found that her whole body was weak and her head hurt as if it was being pricked by thousands of needles.
"Hiss..." Chen Xiaoru couldn't help but gasp. What was going on? Was she... amnesiac? Did she even forget who she was?
She looked around. It was a pure white room with simple furnishings. Apart from the hospital bed she was lying on, there was only a bunch of dewy lilies on the bedside table.
This flower...why does it look familiar? I feel like I've seen it somewhere...
Chen Xiaoru tried hard to recall, but her mind seemed to be covered by a layer of fog. The harder she tried to think, the more her head hurt.
Just then, the door of the ward was pushed open and a middle-aged couple walked in.
The two were dressed simply, but their expressions of anxiety and worry were hard to conceal. Seeing Chen Xiaoru's eyes open, they were startled at first, then their faces lit up with surprise, and they quickly walked to the bedside.
"Xiao Ru! Are you awake?!" The woman's voice trembled and her eyes turned red in an instant.
Although the man didn't say anything, he held the woman's hand tightly, showing his inner excitement.
Xiaoru? Are you calling me? Chen Xiaoru looked at them blankly. Who are these two people?
"You... know me?" Chen Xiaoru asked hesitantly, her voice very hoarse.
When the woman heard this, she couldn't hold back her tears any longer and started to fall: "Xiao Ru, don't you remember us? I'm your mother!"
The man also hurriedly said: "Xiao Ru, I'm your father! What's wrong with you? Where do you feel uncomfortable?"
Dad? Mom? Chen Xiaoru was completely stunned. This was a lot of information! Was she dreaming? How come she woke up with an extra set of parents? And she had lost her memory? This plot was too melodramatic!
